Eigenfactor An Eigenfactor (EF) is a measure of overall value provided by journal articles published in a given year. With an Eigenfactor of .16, GENETICS ranked 6/298 in Eigenfactor’s Genetics and Heredity Field.3 The 2005 data ranks GENETICS 93/6327 of all journals classified. In terms of Eigenfactor rankings of all journals, the top three overall journals are Nature (EF 2.23), Science (2.13), Journal of Biological Chemistry (2.04), and PNAS (1.94). Interestingly, because EigenFactor adjusts for citation patters across disciplines, many influential journals (while not recognized by Impact Factor) are ranked highly according to EigenFactor. Nature, Science, and PNAS are classified in the Multi-disciplinary Sciences Field, and are not included in Table 7 (below). Article Influence (AI) is a measure of a journal’s prestige based on per article citations and comparable to (and typically correlates with) ISI Impact Factor.
