Moore's law is the observation that the number of transistors in a dense integrated circuit doubles about every two years and the cost of compute halves.


Every decade enables a new compute platform

• 1970s – Mainframes, punch cards, mag tape, automation - IBM, DEC, ICL

• 1980s – Microcomputers – BBC Micro (Acorn)/Sinclair/Intel-IBM PC –Modems/Prestel
