The Sherry S. Hintz Scholarship Fund - The Sherry S. Hintz Scholarship Fund was created by an anonymous Montgomery County resident in memory of several women in her family who lost their lives to breast cancer. The Fund provides college scholarship awards to students who have lost a parent/guardian to breast or ovarian cancer. The Fund is administered through the Community Foundation for Montgomery County (CFMC) in partnership with the Mental Health Association (MHA) of Montgomery County, Maryland. Awardees of the Sherry S. Hintz Scholarship Fund may receive up to $20,000 per year for as many as four years of undergraduate education. All applications and attachments must be postmarked by March 8, 2013. Maryland Farm Bureau 2013 Scholarship - The Maryland Farm Bureau will offer ten

$2,000.00 scholarships. Applicants must be high school seniors starting college in the

fall of 2013 or full time college students at any community college or four-year

institution. Applicants or their parents/guardians MUST be members of Maryland Farm

Bureau. Seven of the scholarships will be offered to agricultural curriculum majors and

three scholarships will be offered to non-agricultural or agricultural curriculum majors.

Selection will be made by a committee designated by the Maryland Farm Bureau Board

of Directors. To apply, students must return the application form with a current photo

(which will be used in a recognition program and a press release recipient

announcement as well as on the Farm Bureau Webpage) and an essay on:

HOW CAN FARMERS EDUCATE THE NON-FARMING PUBLIC ABOUT THEIR

BUSINESSES AND TELL THEIR STORY?

The essay should not exceed two pages using minimum of a 12 point font size. (NO

identifying information for example, No College names, No 4-H club names, No town

names, No county names etc.) Any identifying information appearing in the essay would

disqualify the application. The selection committee will evaluate each essay

anonymously. No student can receive this scholarship more than four times.

The Maryland Farm Bureau office MUST receive applications and photos by 4:00pm

February 1, 2013. It is PREFERRED that applications be emailed to

The Dwight P. Jacobus Scholarship - This scholarship will be awarded to a deserving

undergraduate student pursuing a career in Business or Education at an accredited

institution of higher education within Maryland or the District of Columbia.

This scholarship was established to assist citizens of Maryland and/or the District of

Columbia who require financial assistance to secure a college education. Up to six

scholarships are awarded each year. At least one scholarship will be awarded to an

individual enrolled in an approved program leading to teacher certification.

Each scholarship has a value of $1,000 for the school year awarded, and it will be paid

directly to the school in which the recipient is enrolled. The deadline to apply is March

Esperanza College Scholarship - As in the previous three years, this spring the

Esperanza Education Fund will award scholarships of at least $5000 and up to $20,000

to immigrant students and students who have two immigrant parents in the District of

Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia to attend public colleges and universities.

They continue to be the only scholarship that serves all immigrant students in the capital

region regardless of ethnicity, national origin, or immigration status. For more

The PMI Montgomery County, MD Chapter college scholarship program - In order

to better prepare graduating high school seniors for opportunities and success with a

future career, the PMI Montgomery County, MD Chapter has established a college

scholarship program. Their goal is to offer some financial assistance to two graduating

high school seniors to pursue further education. One of these $1,000 scholarships will

be open to all qualifying Montgomery Country high school seniors. To be a candidate for

this scholarship, the high school senior needs to:

- Complete a short quiz on the Project Management Career Field with a score of 80% or

The other $1,000 scholarship will be open to the children and grandchildren of PMI

Montgomery County, MD Chapter members that live in the membership area

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Xi Sigma Omega Chapter Scholarship - The Xi Sigma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is pleased to announce applications for the Golden Soror Scholarship, Ola Carter Berry Scholarship, and Bernadine M. Pindell Scholarship are now being accepted. Each scholarship will be for one thousand dollars ($1,000), and applications must be received by March 1, 2013. Additionally, we will award the Clive Jackson, Beatrice Crutchfield, and Ola Berry Book Scholarships for five hundred dollars ($500) each. The Golden Soror Scholarship: The Golden Soror Scholarship is for students who plan to attend a Historically Black College or University. Finally, the Bernadine M. Pindell Scholarship is reserved for students who plan to major in mathematics. The Maryland PTA Scholarship Fund - The Maryland PTA Scholarship Fund is for

Students Pursuing a Career in Public Education.

PURPOSE OF THE FUND:

The Maryland PTA Scholarship Fund offers assistance to qualified individuals pursuing

careers in education.

NATURE OF SCHOLARSHIP:

Recipients of the scholarship are free to choose the accredited college or university that

he or she desires to attend. The recipient is also free to choose the content area in

which he or she desires to specialize while working in education within the State of

Maryland.

Each scholarship provides a minimum of $500 a year. Awards are presented annually

as the fund permits.

METHOD OF SELECTION:

Selection of scholarship recipients is based upon interest in and potential for a career in

education, financial need, academic record, and student resume.

Applications must be sent to the Maryland PTA office, postmarked no later than

March 15, 2013. The Scholarship Committee will make the selection of the scholarship

recipients in April. The Scholarship Committee will notify the selected recipients, the

school principal, the sponsoring PTA and the appropriate PTA Council President.

Checks will be presented to the scholarship recipients at their Senior Awards Night were

applicable.

National Association for the Advancement of Colored People Scholarship Awards Programs - The Montgomery County Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) will award $1,000 scholarships to students residing in Montgomery County. The scholarships will be presented at the Freedom Fund Dinner on Sunday, May 5, 2013, at the Bethesda North Conference Center, 5701 Marinelli Road, North Bethesda, Maryland. Eligibility Requirements:

Must be a graduating high school senior

Must have a grade point average or a weighted grade point average of 3.0 or above

Must participate in extracurricular activities

Must participate in faith-based, religious-based, or volunteer activities. If this is not possible because of paid employment, please explain.

Must have submitted a complete application by Friday, February 22, 2013. How to Apply:

Complete the official application form. The application form may be reproduced but may not be altered, and must be filled out completely.

Submit two school references (original copies on school stationery), including one from a guidance counselor or an administrator.

Submit a student transcript.

Submit a 300-word, double-spaced, typed essay, which addresses the theme, “Reaffirming America’s Promise.” Students are encouraged to provide their own personal interpretation of the theme. The essay must accompany the application. In addition, a three to four paragraph typewritten narrative about the applicant should be included.

Google 4 Doodle Contest Open to K–12 Students

For the sixth year, Google is sponsoring its Doodle 4 Google contest, an annual program that invites K–12 students to use their artistic talents to redesign the Google homepage logo. This year’s theme is “My Best Day Ever…”

The winning artist will see their work on the Google homepage for a day, win a $30,000 college scholarship, and win a $50,000 technology grant for his or her school. The deadline to submit a Doodle is Friday, March 22. The doodles are judged by Google employees and a panel of guest judges, including journalist and TV personality Katie Couric; music maestro Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson of The Roots; Chris Sanders, writer and director of Lilo & Stitch and How to Train Your Dragon; and Pendleton Ward, creator of Adventure Time.

On May 1, Google will open an online public vote for the 50 state winners, who will be flown to New York City for a national awards ceremony on May 22. The national winner will be announced there. In addition, state winners will have their artwork on display at the American Museum of Natural History from May 22–July 14. Munch Scholarship - Each year the Maryland Association of Pupil Personnel awards scholarships to recognize the achievement of one or more high school seniors in the state of Maryland. The scholarship fund is named in memory of Glenn R. Munch. The intent of our scholarship is to honor selected students who have overcome adversity and made the readjustments necessary to succeed in high school and life and have become contributing members of the community. Any senior who plans to attend post-secondary school is eligible to apply. The student must complete the application, write an essay entitled “My Gift of Service”, and submit two letters of recommendation (one must be from the PPW assigned to the school). The application must be signed by the student, the parent/guardian, and the PPW assigned to the school. It will then be submitted to the local Student Services Department. B’nai B’rith's Diverse Minds Youth Writing Challenge Returns! - Top Teen Book

Entry Wins $5,000 Scholarship and Book Gets Published

Disagreeing dragons, angry insects, a city made of soap and colorful chameleons have all been called to duty to help children learn the value of tolerance and diversity during the six years of the B’nai B’rith International Diverse Minds Youth Writing Challenge.

In this, the seventh year, the contest returns to the Washington, D.C., area where local high school students will once again get the chance to write and illustrate original books to help grade school children celebrate tolerance and diversity. The winning author earns a $5,000 scholarship and has his or her book professionally published and distributed to local schools and libraries.

Winners will be announced, and the book unveiled, at an awards ceremony in the spring.

This education and awareness initiative was created in conjunction with B’nai B’rith programs that promote tolerance and communicate a message of equality among all citizens. The contest aims to enlighten, inspire and educate America's young people and their families in an effort to abolish prejudices and strengthen ties among today’s youth.

The second place winner receives a $2,000 scholarship, and the third place winner earns a $1,000 scholarship. In addition, the teacher who oversees the creation of the first place submission will receive a $500 stipend to use for classroom or organizational materials, and the school will win a $500 grant.

A diverse panel of judges from the Washington, D.C. worlds of education, the arts, business and government, along with B’nai B’rith International leaders, will review the submissions and select the winners. ACT-SO is a yearlong enrichment program designed to recruit, stimulate, improve and encourage high academic and cultural achievement among African-American high school students.
