the human response to marketing stimuli and branding

The Adrenal Response Humans are also programmed with other types of chemical reactions to events. The technical name for Adrenaline is Epinephrine which means “by the kidneys” and is the chemical released when our bodies (or minds) are stimulated by physical threat, noise, bright lights, and high ambient temperatures. This causes higher productions of sugars and fatty acids in the bloodstream which form the basis of unprecedented energy surges within the smooth muscles throughout our bodies. This response cycle is referred to as “fight or flight” and is used by the body to either get us away from danger quickly or help us ramp up to engage in combat when confronted with extra energy. The Endorphin Response Humans are preprogrammed to deliver a standard chemical response to stimulation. This “wiring” is highly influenced by culture, tradition, and alterations to the standard programming through behavior modification and rewards. When stimulated by exercise, excitement, pain, love, and orgasm, the body reacts by producing a very standard chemical that delivers pleasure to our brain. This is not an esoteric concept… it’s a chemical that flushes through our bloodstream, directly to the brain that causes the circuits in our brain to identify a stimulus with pleasure. When the brain receives this “Yes, Yes, Yes” response to this stimulation, it wires up circuitry in the nerve patterns of the brains saying, “When this happens to us… it’s good.” The actual derivation of the term “Endorphin” is “endogenous morphine” or “morphine produced from within”. What does this mean to us? The Human Body is a Meth Lab Our bodies contain a very complicated, yet effective, drug laboratory that is driven by many external and internal influences, originating physically from our nervous system (pricks, pain, heat) or from psychological effects (horror movies entering into our eyes causing fear in our brains). It is important to understand that the chemicals that are created are highly addictive and natural in our bodies. Illicit drugs are illegal primarily because they are unnatural versions of the very same natural drugs that our body creates every day. Methamphetamines (“Meth”) simply overstimulate our minds into producing an uncontrolled and unregulated endorphin response. Marijuana also has a muted, but similar effect. We often think of these as the drug, but in fact they are foreign triggers for our internal meth labs that produce the eventual drugs in a very poorly managed way. Marketers are Drug Dealers As marketers we must understand how the human meth lab works and how to stimulate and regulate the delivery of chemicals into the brains of our target audience. By understanding the science and chemistry of marketing and regulating that knowledge with morality and wisdom, we can discover the true secrets of marketing… which lie in the chemical response to our marketing messages.

Page 1: The Human Response to Marketing Stimuli and Branding

The  Endorphin  Response  Humans   are   pre-‐programmed   to   deliver   a   standard   chemical   response   to  stimulation. When  the  brain  receives  this  “Yes,  Yes,   Yes”   response   to   this   stimulation,   it   wires   up   circuitry   in   the   nerve  patterns  of  the  brains  saying,  “When  this  happens  to  us…  it’s  good.”

The  actual  derivation  of  the  term  “Endorphin”  is  “endogenous  morphine”  or  “morphine  produced  from  within”.

Methamphetamines  (“Meth”)  simply  over-‐stimulate  our  minds  into  producing  an  uncontrolled  and  unregulated  endorphin  response.
