photographs of lush greenery and wild-life and said he feels like he is in a wilder-ness or on the Amazon when he walks along the Trinity and through the Trinity Forest. The Trinity Forest is an area over 6,000 acres of Hardwood Forest of num-erous types of trees and is a rookery for herons, egrets and numerous other birds. Numerous guided canoe trips, along with kayaking, take place from sev-eral areas along the Trinity. Charles Allen from our club does a guided tour and has taken several club members on a tour.  One of the difficulties of canoeing and kayaking the river is knowing where to get into the river. The banks are very steep in a number of places making en-try difficult, but that problem will be ad-dressed as further work is done on the project. The Trinity River Project will con-sist of over 10,000 acres and has a num-ber of partners - Texas Horse Park (600 acre world class equestrian center), Trin-ity River Audubon Center (gateway to Trinity Forest), Trinity Stand Trail (7.8 mile hike and bike trail), Groundwork Dal-las, and Trinity Trust Foundation.

THOUGHTS ON . .

Flowers never emit so sweet and strong a fragrance as before a storm. When a storm approach-es thee, be as fragrant as a sweet-smelling flower.

~ Jean Paul RichterA bit of fragrance clings to the hand that gives flowers.

~ Chinese ProverbStretching his hand out to catch the stars, he forgets the flowers at his feet.

~ Jeremy BenthamFlowers are words even a baby can understand.

~ Quentin CrispA cynic is a man who, when he smells flowers, looks around for a coffin.

Two factory workers are talking. The woman says, "I can make the boss give me the day off." The man replies, "And how would you do that?" The woman says, "Just wait and see." She then hangs upside-down from the ceiling. The boss comes in and says, "What are you doing?"

The woman replies, "I'm a light bulb." The boss then says, "You've been working so much that you've gone crazy. I think you need to take the day off." The man starts to follow her and the boss says, "Where are you going?" The man says, "I'm going home, too. I can't work in the dark.”

Champions of Change from DG Bud McBrayerWhite House – Champions of Change‘This story is establishing the awareness of Rotary both locally and nationally.Congratulations to the Rotary Club of Arlington, TX’. -Governor Bud McBrayer

Ten U.S. Rotarians were honored April 20th, 2012, by the White House as Champions of Change for their volunteer work locally and internationally.

One of the ten honorees was one of our Rotary DFW family of Rotarians, Jim Fulgham of the Arlington TX Rotary Club.Jim Fulgham Rotary Club of Arlington, TX

A tireless advocate for higher education in his local community, Jim Fulgham of Arlington, TX has been a driving force behind the Rotary Scholarship Program at Webb Elementary School. Focused on helping children from disadvantaged families, the pro-gram provides a scholarship for every sixth-gra-der who goes on to finish high school and enroll in college. A retired consultant, Fulgham part-nered with local colleges and universities and raised nearly $1 million to support the program. So far, 150 students have gone to college. He also initiated “Read with Rotary,” a literacy pro-gram aimed at teaching adults how to read.
