Bring a Guest to hear Mike Miles, the new Super-intendent of the Dallas ISD, explain his plans to improve the sixth biggest school district in the country – and enjoy a great lunch with Us!

RCPC continues its quest to get the best students involved with Interact at Hillcrest H. S. On Thurs, Aug. 30 about 250 HHS Seniors had their retreat. PP Linda Tunnell and PP Ley Waggoner shared the story about Interact, Rotary and our strong relationship with HHS.

This year the Interact Chair is Tracy Gomes. Paul Quinn College President Dr. Michael Sorrell was the kick-off speaker. Former Dallas Cowboy Emmitt Smith spoke after we had a chance to fire up the students! OK, dreams can become reality.

Referencing Clint Eastwoodʼs monologue to an empty chair at the Republican Convention, Chris Short brought an imaginary PP Jim Mills onto the podium. However, his reminder to pay for his ad were matched by the real PP Jimʼs contending that Chris had not paid for his either, a fact confirmed by Treas, Barb Jeffries. Chris then introduced The Hub and web advertisers for the week.

The real PP Jim then came to the podium to present the new RCPC Constitu-tion and the revi-sed By-Laws. He explained that RI suggests every club have a Constitution, but he never could locate RCPCʼs, so he ad-apted RIʼs model Constitution. This was ap-proved by the membership. He said that he re-viewed the RCPC By-Laws, but they were con-fusing, so he and others have adapted them and merged them with RIʼs model By-Laws. This also was approved by the membership.

duced our speaker, Alan Lowe, Director of the Bush Presidential Library at SMU. He said that his first job as an archivist at the Reagan Library began this passion of his professional life. He

learned about the mission of Presidential Libraries. They are overseen by the National Ar-chives. President Franklin Roosevelt originated the idea of a Presidential Library and creat-ed his near his home in Hyde Park. President Hoover then created one, too; every President since has created his own Li-brary. The Libraries are filled with primary source documents, important for puting presi-dential decisions into context. The archives contain the documents and artifacts that were created or received by the President. The Bush archives currently contain about seven-ty million pages of references, but that will grow as they get more documents from others in the administration and documents for Presi-dent Bushʼs term as Governor. During Presi-dent Bushʼs terms, great strides were made in electronic communication, and photography transitioned to digital. They have about eighty terabytes of electronic information. They have about two hundred million emails, averaging about three pages each. They are still working on determining the best way to process them and make them accessible. The emails are a wonderful resource and give increased insight into the inner workings of the White House.
