three (53) enrolled cadets, consisting of (49) basic cadets and four (4) ad-

vance cadets. However the 1st year students were allowed to change and/or

add matriculation for their chosen NSTP course for the whole duration of

the Common Module which lasted for eight Saturdays. At the end of the

Common Module, a total of eighty seven (87) cadets are enrolled consisting

of eighty three (83) basic cadets and four (4) advance cadets. Moreover, forty

one (41) of the enrolled cadets are male and forty six (46) are female.

and Sciences (CAS), eight (8) are from the College of fisheries (CFOS), thir-

teen (13) are from College of Management (CM), and eight (8) are from the

percent (20%) decrease on the number of Advance Cadets, from last years

    five (5) to four (4).

Ever since the mandatory ROTC has been abolished, the problem

that the unit faces is the enlistment of the first year students into the NSTP

Course. Without the permission or notice to the students, they were auto-

matically enlisted to the CWTS program. In addition, before the start of the

Common Module Instructions they were already grouped which causes

them to think twice if theyd change matriculation. Furthermore, an addi-

tional challenge had arisen due to implementation of another NSTP Compo-

    nent, the LTS program.

Recommendations of the unit to increase the number of enrolled

cadets include the fair chance for the students to choose their desired NSTP

Component. Thus, the students should not be enrolled in any NSTP Compo-

nent during the enrollment period, they should be given the time to enroll

their chosen component on the duration of the Common Module. Also,

those students from the College of Management who choose to enroll in the

ROTC should be given a transportation allowance or a service to bring them

COQC was my first step into a world of order and discipline that showed me I have much yet to improve upon and

that I have more potential than I think I have.

During my first night of COQC, I didnt really understand how we were going to train to become a cadet

officer or what is was really like to be one, but as I continued to train and learn under my upper classmen, I began

to understand little by little what it is to be a cadet officer. And though Im sure I havent fully understand my

duties and the proper way of acting like an officer after COQC, Im sure that this first step is a big jump into im-

    proving myself.

    -C2Lt Kyle Enrique R Diestro

    COQC Graduates Corner

During our training as applicants, we experienced a lot of unforgettable moments and moments that wed rather forget. Hardships like rigor-

ous training nights and balancing our college and applicant lives ad unforgettable moments like the completion of said training nights. We did

learn a lot from our training though, like what it is to be a cadet officer and how to be a better person as a whole. We are still not entirely sure

if we really do understand but we do know that we still have a lot to learn and to improve upon and we expect to go through all of this to-

gether as a class. To overcome any challenges and support each other.

    - Class Bagwis

COQC was like a nightmare that when the time you woke up, youll realize you had made it.

Ive experienced a lot of first times in my life during the training. But going through these first times took

me a lot of courage and braveness just to believe and trust myself that I can do it. I learned that in doing things; do

not think of yourself alone because there are people who are always there to help you in good and bad times. For

me, those people are my buddies who were just some complete strangers before but now we work and will still

work as one. - C2Lt Maria Shaina A Canieso

After nights of trials, bitter hardships turned into sweet success that anyone of us would remember and live what we

    have learned.

While training to be a cadet officer, I experienced a lot of first-times, difficulties, time management,

drills, and also funny and bonding moments with my second family away from home. From these, I become

stronger, more persevere, and more ready to accept responsibilities for the unit. I also learned to push myself and

my buddies to aim for the better and not to give up. And now, I expect myself to do my tasks with no more hesita-

    tions and accomplish it successfully.

    - C2Lt Melisa M Fabella

COQC is about embracing the pain that youll experience at the end of a race and not being afraid.

As I experienced the challenge of COQC, many things improved to me. Every day, reporting to headquar-

ters, doing every task assigned to us and waiting until bedtime causes my heart to tremble. There are moments of

despair, but in the time of challenge, there I have my buddies to support me and together we finish the race. De-

spite all the pain and discouragement, I stand with my belief that I can do it for me, for my buddies and for the

unit. COQC was a great experience such that there is nothing like a challenge in COQC to bring out the best in

    you.

    - C2Lt Marnel D Fundales

COQC is a challenge in which on the way of training, doubts will trouble you but finishing it with strong determi-

nation and interest, will reward you a great feeling of happiness, satisfaction, gratification, relief and realizations.

Experiencing all training night during the COQC changed the way we usually do. We become more inde-

    pendent and matured little by little as we build our relationship as buddies. Though we sacrificed lots of things;

together, we suffered, endured, laughed, and enjoyed. Being here in ROTC gave us a family that pushed us to our

limits not only for the units purpose and sake but also for our own benefit.

    - C2Lt Jazel C Lauron

    CAMP MONTECLARO VISIT

The UPV ROTC UNIT conducted a camp visit at Camp Monte-

claro, 82nd Infantry Bantay Laya Battalion, Brgy Igtuba, Miagao, Iloilo

    on 22 November 2014.

The activity was started by a Call to the Commander; and after

which was the static display of weapons, lecture in Basic Military weapons

and of course, there was a familiarization firing of US 5.56mm M16 Rifle

which the cadets have truly enjoyed as a part of their ROTC life.

Life Changing, those are the words from a cadet after the said

    activity. Jerick S Guantero
