Ben. McCulloch on Monday last, was marching towards Lexington. A reign of terror prevails in Louisville. Many of tbe best citiieus have been arrested and thrown into dungeons. The Legislature endorses all the atrocities of Lincoln's soldiery. Col. McKee, of the Louisville Courier, has made his escape. Andy Johnson is reported to have been arrested by some Confederate partisans in Kentucky. The St. Louis Republican says that twenty pieces jf artillery w?re captured, by Gen. It is reported "that in response to appeals for ai<I, Lincoln bus answered, that the Union men of Kentucky most fight their own battles, for he lias no uien to send thein. KasT TKNNKShEE.The Knoxville Register brings some good news from Kist Tennessee, from which wc extract the following : ''The temperate but firm measures adopted by the civil and military authorities of the Stutc arc having the most happy effect in <|uieting the excitement of the Union tnen of Last To: ucssec, and counteracting the mischief and exposing the wiles of the ambitious demagogues who have so long rankly abu-cd the cars of tbo masses. A little wholesome restraint exercised upon these leaders, and the lesson administered to thein that ''treason will not be tolerated,' has had a magical « fleet in modifying their views nud forcing upon thoiu the conviction that thcro id uo longer a government at Washington to which they owe allegiance. Making a merit of ucsessity, those of them wrho have been arrested have grace* fully submitted to the authority of the Confederate States ; and to couiploto Lu« been the conversion of some, that from being clamorous rebelliouists and leaders of Linen)nite bands one day, they outvie the Beit d.»y even original secessionists in their professions of devotion to the stars and bars of the Southorn Confederacy, and announce themselves as candidates for military or civil oflicc under the new Government." The War Id the West"A dispatch to tbe Louisville 15uiletio,dated Jefferson city, September 23d,

says tl^at news had been received therethat night that tbe Abolition garrison at

Lexington had surrendered on Fridayafternoon to the Confederate forces, underGeneral Price, on account, as it isalleged, yf the waut of water. Ben.McCulloch on Monday last, was marchingtowards Lexington.A reign of terror prevails in Louisville.

Many of tbe best citiieus have beenarrested and thrown into dungeons. The Legislature endorses all the atrocitiesof Lincoln's soldiery. Col. McKee,of the Louisville Courier, has made hisescape. Andy Johnson is reported tohave been arrested by some Confederatepartisans in Kentucky.

The St. Louis Republican says thattwenty pieces jf artillery w?re captured,by Gen. Price, at Islington, besides 5,000stand of small arms.perhaps tuore.W The Richmond Dispatch says : "Wehave no doubt that the entire force underMullican was cither killed nr osnforcd

.r ,f-_,* notl that our troops succeeded iu obtaininga very Urge amount of gold (tlie

Federals say S'JMJ.OOO) which they badburied inside their fortifications.

It is reported "that in response to appealsfor ai<I, Lincoln bus answered, thatthe Union men of Kentucky most fighttheir own battles, for he lias no uien tosend thein.

KasT TKNNKShEE.The KnoxvilleRegister brings some good news fromKist Tennessee, from which wc extractthe following :

''The temperate but firm measures adoptedby the civil and military authoritiesof the Stutc arc having the most happyeffect in <|uieting the excitement ofthe Union tnen of Last To: ucssec, andcounteracting the mischief and exposingthe wiles of the ambitious demagogueswho have so long rankly abu-cd the carsof tbo masses. A little wholesome restraintexercised upon these leaders, andthe lesson administered to thein that''treason will not be tolerated,' has hada magical « fleet in modifying their viewsnud forcing upon thoiu the convictionthat thcro id uo longer a government at

Washington to which they owe allegiance.Making a merit of ucsessity, those ofthem wrho have been arrested have grace*fully submitted to the authority of theConfederate States ; and to couiploto Lu«been the conversion of some, that frombeing clamorous rebelliouists and leadersof Linen)nite bands one day, they outviethe Beit d.»y even original secessionistsin their professions of devotion to thestars and bars of the Southorn Confederacy, and announce themselves as candidatesfor military or civil oflicc underthe new Government."

A Notabi.k ArPBi.itmknt..PrincePoliguac, of France, lias received an jppointiucnt upon Gen. He is reported to!be in close communication with LouisNapoleon, and upon terms of intimacywith Count Morny. It is to him wo areindt bted for the insertion in the l'ariajournals, last spring, of various friendlynotices of thu Confederate Government. He comes highly recommended by our

friends in Paris. He is about thirtyyears old, and exceedingly plain andunpretending. His family has eojo)edthe tillo of Prince for five hundred years.«.Richmond Dispatch.
