$2,000.Miller started on the pole and shot out

to a commanding lead early in the 30-lapALMS feature. Rusty Schlenk got by JeffBabcock for second several laps in andtried to reel in the driver of the Rick DelongRacing number 3. Without the benet ofany caution periods, Schlenk was unable tocatch Miller and had to settle for a secondplace nish. That nish was good enoughto put Schlenk back in front of Brian Ruhl-man on top of the Oakshade Raceway LateModel point standings. Steve Kester posteda third place nish with Babcock slippingback to fourth. Chris Keller nished fthand ALMS point leader Brandon Thirlbyended up sixth.

Last weeks winner of both SportsmanTwin 25 features, Tim Line, snatched thelead at the start of this weeks feature

event. A caution after Graeme Short rolledto a stop on the front stretch about half-way through the race tightened up theeld behind Line for a restart. Grochowskiwas running second and couldnt take ad-vantage as Line once again pulled out toa sizable lead on his way to his sixth fea-ture win of the year. Grochowski and TimFisher had a great battle for second in thenal laps of the race with Fisher just edg-ing out Grochowski at the checkered agfor second. Chane Stuckey was fourth withRich Ruff nishing fth after starting 16th.

Multiple cautions marred the rst partof the Bomber A Main with Terry Rushlowleading. Tim Murphys top ve run came toan end after trying to go three-wide under

Jeff Foks and Gregg DeTray while racingfor third. Murphy appeared to run out of

room and spun after contact with Foks.

Foks worked his way up to second by lap10 and took the lead from Rushlow on arestart after a caution for debris. ChrisSands followed Foks by Rushlow to takeover the second position. Sands was un-

able to challenge Foks for the lead as Fokswent on to pick up his eighth feature winof the year. Sands second place nish kepthim in the point lead by a single point overFoks. Rushlow held on to nish third fol-lowed by DeTray and Steve Morris.

John Martis spun on the rst lap of theBest Performance Motorsports Compactfeature and collected Brogan Rehklau tobring out an early caution. yellow ag ew and both drivers had torestart at the back of the eld. That putDan Dippman up to second. Despite a bar-rage of cautions the remainder of the race,Dippman was unable to challenge Reckerfor the lead. It was the rst feature win ofthe year for Recker. Dippman was second.Domoe fought his was all the way back upto a third place nish with Stuckey fourth.Duane Fletcher nished fth.

    THE VILLAGE REPORTER

When it comes to kids and Pioneer,Ohio, chances are really good that amember of the Fidler family has someinteraction with them. Whether it beteaching or coaching, the Fidler familyremains dedicated to the kids of theNorth Central School District.

Pioneer is like many other small townsin the heartland of America. Everybody

knows everybody, and although familyalways comes rst, the lines betweenfamily and community often disappearwhen tragedy strikes. The proof of thatcame on December 19, 2007, when Mike

Fidler Jr. passed away suddenly in hishome at the age of just 32. After a stringof other unfortunate incidences, Mikesson, Brenden, found himself alonebefore he had even reached the ripe oldage of ten. The family made sure thathe was taken care of with his everydayneeds, and from that point, the synergyof family and community went to workon securing Brendens future.

Parents normally save up for their

childrens college education, but thatoption was almost instantly erased fora young Brenden seven years ago. Thecommunity then stepped in, and thesummer of 2008 saw the rst annual

Mike Fidler Memorial Golf Tournamentto fund a scholarship for Brenden. Theseventh annual event was staged atWindwood Hollow on August 9 of thisyear, and just as it has done in the past, the event drew dozens of sponsors, andeven more golfers.

While the nal numbers of this yearsevent are still being tabulated, the 59golfers that took to the links contributed$2,950 in registration fees. That is only

the ground oor of a total that, includingother fundraisers like a 50-50 drawing, will grow as the numbers are tabulated.

There are many overlookedadvantages to living in small-town

America. One of the biggest and best isthat which helped build a young Americaas it expanded westward in the lateeighteenth and nineteenth centuries.Family bonds are strong, but the bondsof many families drawn together asa community are indomitable. Thosetightly knit small communities forgedthe America of today, and the eventsat Windwood Hollow on this day arethe proof that the values and spirit of

community that built our nation arestill alive and well and thriving inPioneer, Ohio.

The Mike Fidler Memorial: A True Synergy Of Family & Community

Casey Noonan came out on top of anextremely competitive UMP Late Model fea-ture at Oakshade Raceway on Saturdaynight for his second feature win of the sea-son.

Brian Ruhlman got the advantage overpole-sitter Rusty Schlenk at the start of the25-lap UMP Late Model feature event afterstarting on the outside of the front row.Schlenk regrouped and began challeng-ing Ruhlman for the lead a few laps later. On lap nine, Schlenk had a shot to takethe lead as he and Ruhlman split around

Steve Miller who was ghting to stay on thelead lap. Ruhlman held on, but Schlenk gotanother run to the inside of Ruhlman withanother slower car in front of the leaders.Ruhlman used the car as a pick which re-sulted in some contact while racing for thelead on the backstretch. The leaders con-tinued to work through heavy trafc whichallowed the rest of the top ve to close in.Casey Noonan snuck by for the lead latein the race. A couple cars racing side byside in front of Noonan made for an excit-ing nish. Ruhlman got to the outside andsomehow Noonan found room to the insideof the two cars at the checkered ag. Ruhl-

man settled for a second place nish andwas able to close back to within four pointsof Schlenk in the point standings. SteveKester notched another top ve nish witha third just ahead of Schlenk. Chris Kellerwas fth.

It was another heart breaker for ChaneStuckey in the UMP Sportsman feature.A few weeks back, Stuckey appeared asthough he might pick up his rst Sports-man feature win after leading the major-ity of the second Sportsman Twin 25, butan incredible run by Tim Line ended with

a pass for the lead on the nal lap of thatrace. This time, Stuckey took command onlap two after passing Rich Ruff for the lead.He then opened up a decent advantage overthe rest of the eld. Line started seventhand moved up to second by lap seven. Sev-en laps later, Line had caught Stuckey andbegan to challenge for the lead. Line nallytook lead after a restart for a caution on lap15. A couple laps later, Stuckeys car beganto smoke and he retired to the pits. Linewent on to pick up his sixth consecutivefeature win. Ruff wound up second withDrew Smith nishing strong in third. Mike

Jessen and George Lindsey nished fourth

and fth respectively.Gregg DeTray won his third Bomber A

Main of the year in a dominating perfor-mance. DeTray started on the inside of thesecond row and took over the race lead bythe completion of the rst lap. Jeff Foks putsome pressure on DeTray for most of therace, but had his run of consecutive winssnapped at four. Chris Sands entered thenight with a slim points lead, but sufferedrear end damage after an incident with Ter-ry Rushlow and was unable to nish therace. Foks made one last move to the inside

of DeTray in the nal corner of the last lap,but it wasnt enough. The second place n-ish for Foks was good enough to take overthe Bomber point lead. Rick Dixon nishedthird followed by Mathew Chapman andCurt Dickie.

Brogan Rehklau started on the pole ofthe Best Performance Motorsports Com-pact feature and drove away from the restof the eld. A good four-car battle ensuedbehind him between John Martis, Bran-don Myers, Cory Gumm and Cody Stetten.Rehklau earned his rst ever Best Perfor-mance Motorsports Compacts feature winwith Gumm holding off Martis for second.

Stetten nished fourth with Myers fth.Tim Hancock and Jacob Gamber had a

great battle for the lead in a caution-lledBomber B Main. Gamber led early withHancock taking over the lead a few lapsinto the event. Gamber fought back on theoutside and regained the lead, but slippedup on the nal lap allowing Hancock to re-claim it and take the checkered ag. AdamLantz also got by Gamber to nish second.Gamber crossed the line third and ScottHammer just edged out Duane Fletcher forfourth.

Special Tom Elling Memorial AustralianPursuit Races were run for the top ten inpoints in the UMP Late Model, UMP Sports-man and Bomber classes. Winners wereKen Hahn, Tim Line and Mathew Chap-man.

The Dual Push Truck Challenge takesplace Saturday, August 16th at OakshadeRaceway and will feature two complete 25-lap UMP Late Model feature events in ad-dition to a full show of UMP Sportsmen,Bombers and Best Performance Motors-ports Compacts. Gates open at 4pm withracing at 7pm.

For the second year ina row, Tim Line swept theUMP Sportsman Twin 25'sat Oakshade Raceway onSaturday night. A set backat the start of the secondSportsman feature put Lineway back in the eld andmade for some very excit-ing racing action late in therace.

UMP Sportsman driverscompeted to make it into

the UMP Sportsman Twin25's; two 25-lap featureevents with the top six oreight drivers inverted forthe second race dependingon what the winner of therst race draws. Joe Der-beck darted out to the leadafter starting on the poleof the rst feature. GeorgeLindsey muscled his wayinto the lead and almostput Derbeck in the wall.

Tim Line started on the out-side of the second row andpassed both drivers for thelead on lap ve. Line set sailafter that and opened up abig lead, however, Lindseymanaged to close up the

distance a bit while workinglapped trafc. It wouldn't beenough for Lindsey as Linepicked up the easy victoryover Lindsey and Derbeck.

Jamie Grochowski wasfourth with Chane Stuckeyfth.

The second SportsmanTwin 25 feature race wasnothing like the rst. Linedrew for an inversion of six, putting him on the outsideof the third row. On therst lap Derbeck, who wasdirectly in front of Line, hada problem and fell way offthe pace. Line had to checkup and fell all the way backto 17th. Chane Stuckeyfollowed up his fth placerun in the rst race with astrong move to take the leadfrom Mike Jessen on thesecond lap. Stuckey man-aged to open a little leadover Jessen as Line tried towork his way back throughthe eld. A caution on lap17 tightened the eld a -nal time with Line restart-ing in fth. Line quickly gotaround Grochowski andBruce Stuart without muchincident. With laps runningout, Line tried to nd roomon the outside of Jessen forsecond. Line squeezed byon the outside and man-

aged to make the pass aftersmacking the backstretchwall and damaging the rearend of his car. In a heartbreaker for Stuckey who

lead most of the race, Linecaught him and made thepass for the lead on the -nal lap to sweep night'sevents after an incrediblerun. Stuckey settled for sec-ond with Jessen hanging onto nish third. Stuart andGrochowski rounded outthe rest of the top ve.

A crazy nish was thehighlight of the UMP LateModel feature event. Five-

time Track ChampionRusty Schlenk was back inchampionship form grab-bing the lead over Brandon

Thirlby at the start. A bigpile up that involved MikeMiller, Mark Pifer Sr., JoshHaynes, Curtis Deisenrothand Jeff Babcock broughtout the yellow ag early.

Thirlby took advantage andtook the lead by a nose atthe completion of lap two.

Thirlby and Schlenk racedside by side for the leadwith Schlenk nally edgingout Thirlby on lap eight toreclaim the top spot. Afterthat, Schlenk began to openup his advantage. Steve

Kester was on the move andworked his way up to sec-ond by lap 13 and set hissites on Schlenk. Schlenkseemed to have things wellin hand in the nal lapsuntil Ken Hahn spun rightin front of Schlenk com-ing off turn four on the -nal lap. Schlenk was hardon the brakes to keep fromgetting into him and madea great move to get aroundhim just as Kester was clos-ing in. Schlenk managed tonurse his car across theline just ahead of Kesterto earn his fourth featurewin of the year and close towithin 17 points of Ruhl-man who is on top of thepoint standings. Thirlbyheld on to nish third be-hind Kester with Ruhlmanfourth. Casey Noonan n-ished fth.

Jeff Foks tightened upthe point standings in theBomber class, just threepoints behind Chris Sandsafter Foks collected his sev-enth A Main win of the year.Foks took command at thestart of the A Main withGregg DeTray running sec-ond. A great battle ensuedwell behind Foks with De-

Tray trying to fend off CurtDickie, Terry Rushlow and

Chris Sands. That battlecame to an abrupt halt forDetray when his transmis-sion locked up with just twolaps to go which brought

out the caution ag. Fokstook the checkered ag andChris Sands picked up acouple positions at the endto nish second. Rushlowwas third followed by Dickieand Derek Morris.

Aaron Barrick picked uphis rst feature win at Oak-shade Raceway in the BestPerformance MotorsportsCompact feature event afterstarting out the outside of

the front row. Brandon My-ers worked his way up toa second place nish afterstarting near the back ofthe eld. Last week's fea-ture winner, John Martisended up nishing thirdwith Brogan Rehklau andCody Stetten rounding outthe rest of the top ve.

Scott Hammer tookthe lead at the start of theBomber B main after start-ing on the outside of thefront row. Jim Remley mus-cled his way into the leadon lap ve with RichardRiffe following into second.Riffe then took the lead onlap six on the inside and

went on to take the check-ered ag. Skeet Recknermanaged to edge out Rem-ley for second at the nish.

Terry Perry nished fourthand Hammer slipped backto nish fth.

For the rst time thisyear, a Bomber C Main wasrun to wrap up the night'sracing action. Scott Robert-son started on the outsideof the third row and droveto a feature win. ChuckStuckey started at the verytail of the eld and tookhome a second place n-ish followed by Bill Daniels,

    DEFIANCE: July 30,

    2014: The Wauseon

    High School Marching

    Band, under the direction

    of Band Director Eric

    Bosewell and Assistant

Band Director Jason Lozartook the Indian Band to

    Deance College July

    27 through July 31 for

    summer camp. Seventy-

    three of the seventy-ve

    members of the 2014

    - 2015 Marching Band

    made the ve day trip,

    where the students spent

    the camp period in the

    dorms together, bonding

    into what is year after

    year one of Northwest

    Ohios nest High School

Marching Bands. Hostingthe Wauseon Band this

    year was Deance College

    Director of Bands Bri

    Olenik, while on eld

    assistance and direction

    was provided by a group

    of Bowling Green State

    University Band Members

    who provided valuable

    assistance in helping

    students understand and

    coordinate various sets.

    Students attending

    this years camp

received a variety ofinstruction and practice

    in formation movement

    and placement, as well as

    marching techniques in

    the ve day session. The

    Wauseon Band, according

    to Director Bosewll, has

    69 Charts , which are

    band member positions,

    and are illustrated in a

    handheld booklet called

    drill charts. Drill charts

    show where each person

    stands during each set of

    the show. The drill charts

    include yard lines and

    hashes as they would be

    on an actual football eld,

which shows the bandmembers where to stand

    in relation to the yard

    lines and hashes.

    During eld time,

    the band has been able

to put in over 30 show

    charts, which will enable

    the marching Band as

    a whole during the fall

    season to successfully

    implement the entire

    range of show selections

    prociently and with the

    pride the Marching Indian

    Band is well known for.

    In addition to the eld

    instruction, students

    also received signicant

    instruction time and

    practice on the march.

    The band members

    learned from both senior

    leaders in the band and

    from the other camp

    instructors key elements

    and attention to detail in

the techniques requiredfor on the march drill.

    The Wauseon Marching

    Band debuted their 2014

    -2015 season on August 2

    in the Wauseon Summer

    Homecoming Parade in

    downtown Wauseon,

    followed by a selection of

    performances on Harmon

    Field at 2:00 p.m. The

    festivities were free to the

    public and the members

    of the band used the

weekend as a capstoneevent following summer

    camp to showcase their

    2014 debut. From the

    spirited way in which the

    students enthusiastically

    embraced the instruction

    at camp, to the bonding

    and close teamwork

    the band demonstrated

    on July 30 during The

    Village Reporters visit

    to Deance College, it is

    clear that The Wauseon

Indian Marching Bandwill once again be one of

    Northwest Ohios nest

    on the eld this fall!
