Who is T.S. Eliot ?
Thomas Stearns Eliot(September 26, 1888 – January 4, 1965) was a playwright, literary critic, and an important English-language poet of the 20th century.
"It wouldn't be what it is, and I imagine it wouldn't be so good ... if I'd been born in England, and it wouldn't be what it is if I'd stayed in America. It's a combination of things. But in its sources, in its emotional springs, it comes from America."
We are the hollow menWe are the stuffed men
Head piece filled with straw. Alas!
Leaning Together
Our dried voices, when We whisper together
Are quiet and meaningless
____>
As wind in dry grass-Or rats’ feet over broken glass-In our dry cellar
Shape without form, Shade without colour,
Paralyzed force, gesture without motion;
Those who have crossed
With direct eyes, to
death’s other kingdom
Remember us, if at all, not as lost
Violent souls, but only As the hollow men The stuffed men
Eyes I dare not meet in dreams in death’s dream kingdomThese do not appear
There,
The eyes are sunlight on a broken column
There, is a tree And voices are In the wind’s
Swinging
Singing
Than a fading star
More distant and more solemn
Let me be no nearerIn death’s dream kingdom
Let me also wear such deliberate disguises
Rat’s coat, crow skin, crossed staves
In a field behaving as the wind behaves
No nearer-
Not that final meeting In the twilight
kingdom
