Crop diseases, insects and nutrients deficiency ->low yield of Cotton

Important diseases - root rot, wilt, leaf spot, grey mildew, rust, anthracnose, bacterial leaf blight, leaf curl and tobacco streak virus.

Tobacco Streak virus is the most destructive.

Management strategies

1) Seed dressing with appropriate insecticide before sowing2) crop rotation and field sanitation3) Grow suitable region-wise resistant varieties4) Remove affected leaves/plants from crop fields to avoid secondary spread.5) Destroy host weeds such as parthenium, tridax and other weeds around the cotton crop6) Inter crop with short duration non-host crops like sorghum, redgram, greengram, blackgram soyabean, pearl millet and maize.7) Spray insecticides such as methyl demeton or thiomethoxam or monocrotophos or acetamiprid or acephate at the initial stage of disease.
