• NITI Aayog has drafted this.

• It is to better recognize migrants’ contribution to

economy and support them.

Recommendations:

• Facilitate Migration: Migration should be

acknowledged as an integral part of development.

Boosting yield From Poppy/Opium

• News Context: Government has decided to rope

opium in private sector.

• It is to increase production of concentrated

poppy from India’s opium crop to boost yield of

alkaloids.

• Alkaloids: They are used for medical purposes.

• Few countries are permitted to cultivate opium

for export and extraction of alkaloids.

• India only extracts alkaloids from opium gum

under control of Revenue Department.

• Farmers extract gum by manually lancing opium
