REFLECTION

Following Jesus in Lent

Our Lenten journey falls exactly at the time that we are looking and waiting for a name for our community as a parish. We first try to identify ourselves and to establish an identity on how we are going to make our coming together as a new community of faith. Lent started with Ash Wednesday which opens for us the understanding of our identity created from the relationship with our God. We can walk together during the season of Lent because we see where we are coming from and where we are going. It is that relationship with our God that directs the celebration we have in this holy season. We open up ourselves, knowing the invitation of God’s love for us. We are called to respond and be like this God - holy and distinctly caring and loving. When we can define and clearly see ourselves in this understanding, then we have a reason to look at the name we have suggested for us and see how the inspiration of this saint will bring us closer to our God. It is getting to know all over again. To be intimately open to God’s promoting and see how the Spirit will be with us.

Lent is a time of knowing God better in our prayers, sacraments, and the services we do for our fellow human beings. We are falling in love all over again with this God. It is trying to understand how present He is in our lives. Our small gatherings to meet other people from the other parish allows us to know how God is touching the lives of those people who will be living with us. We will try to hear and develop ways of understanding how God will continue to work with all of us. We will listen, dialogue, pray and worship together. We will allow the Spirit to guide each one of us. We will try to see how God smiles in our lives.

It is difficult to see clearly how these things are happening with us. But it is also a process of learning but most all finding our calling in our times. We look forward to that Resurrection which will transform each and every one of us. We will be people of hope, knowing that we will follow the footsteps of our Lord who died for us. May we remain together in our following of Jesus.

A LIFE OF GIVING IS A LIFE WITH CHRIST ! A LIFE OF SERVICE IS A LIFE WITH CHRIST !

THANK YOU FOR YOUR STEWARDSHIP !

Let us continue to invite friends and family to our Masses. Our average attendance for the month of February is 914 people. Thank you! Pease pray that we will reach our goal of over 1,000 people attending weekend Masses. Please pray for the team that will be handling the Mass schedules for our Unified Parish. It is our prayer that all our parishioners will support all the new Mass times in July. In the next few weeks, we will present the suggested Mass times. We continue to appeal to your generous spirit in supporting our offerings. Collections vs. Budget is down by more than $30,000 for the last 35 weeks of Fiscal Year 2019-2020. Our objective is a solid financial condition for our Parish. We need to set aside portions of our collections for making disciples and supporting the Evangelization program. We also need to continue to fund our on-going repairs and maintenance of our buildings and grounds. We understand that each one of our parishioners has different financial resources. We pray that in whatever decision you make, it will be guided by the Holy Spirit. To God be the Glory! Please support us with your prayers, your talents, your volunteer works, and your financial support. Build up our Parish. Be a part of the faith transforming work of our parish by supporting our many ministries and groups. Thank you once again for all your gifts of time, talents, and treasure. We encourage our parishioners to use our online giving portals, eith ACH or Give Central (https://www.givecentral.org/login). Interested? Please give us a call at the Parish Office (773) 561-3474 or visit our website at www,sthilarychicago.org You may also help by sponsoring our “Bread and Wine” for our weekend Masses. For a donation of $50 you may honor your loved ones in this way.

Living Discipleship

through Spirit, Gifts, and Service

“I have said this to you, that in Me you

may have peace. In the world you have

tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have

overcome the world.” John 16:33

Suffering Equals Hope

We are all in different paths and levels of

our relationships with God. That is okay.

Our growth in our personal relationship

with God is akin to flowers growing in

the garden. Some flowers bloom fast but

wither faster. Some take a while to

bloom, but the flowers last until the first

sign of frost or longer, however harsh the

growing condition is. Like sunshine and

water, God gives equal provision to His

children. All endure varied forms of

suffering. Sufferings promote

Endurance, Endurance builds Character,

Character produces Hope. When we look

up to Christ who endured great

sufferings for our sake, then the pain we

must suffer is a way to be closer to Jesus,

the Prince of Peace.

CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICES (CRS)

Catholic Relief Services was founded in 1943 by the Catholic Bishops of the United States to serve World War II survivors in Europe. Since then, we have expanded in size to reach more than 130 million people in more than 100 countries on five continents. For over 75 years, our mission has been to assist impoverished and disadvantaged people overseas, working in the spirit of Catholic social teaching, to promote the sacredness of human life and the dignity of the human person. CRS is the official international humanitarian agency of the Catholic community in the United States. It defends and advances human life around the world by directly meeting basic needs and advocating solutions to injustice. CRS is pro-life, dedicated to preserving the sacredness and dignity of human life from conception to natural death. Every aspect of our work helps life flourish. Fr. David Garcia will speak about Catholic Relief Services at all our Masses this weekend. You will have the opportunity to make a donation at this time.

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS

“Rite of Election”.

On Sunday, March 1, at 7:00 PM, something very special will be happening; “The Rite of Election”.

At Holy Name Cathedral, Bishop Mark Bartosic will be the main celebrant. On this day many people

from the Archdiocese gather at Holy Name for the Rite of Election.

But what is the “Rite of Election”?

The Rite of Election

The Rite of Election, part of the RCIA (the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) process normally

coincides with the first Sunday of Lent. At this rite, upon the testimony of sponsors and

catechists and the catechumen’s affirmation of their intentions to join the Church, the Church

“elects” these catechumens to receive the Sacraments of Initiation. In the presence of the bishop

(or his delegate), they inscribe their names in the Book of the Elect at the cathedral as a pledge of

fidelity. Now the catechumens are called “the elect” or “illuminandi” (those who will be

enlightened”). They now begin a Period of Purification and Enlightenment – the final, intense

preparation for the reception of the Sacraments of Initiation. On the next five Sundays of Lent,

three scrutinies (rites for self-searching and repentance) and the presentations of the Creed and

the Lord’s Prayer take place. This period concludes with the celebration of the Sacraments of

Initiation at the Easter Vigil. After the Easter Vigil, the newly baptized and confirmed members

of the Church enter the Period of Postbaptismal Catechesis or Mystagogy. They will grow in their

understanding of the mysteries of the faith. strengthen their bonding with the rest of the

faithful, and enter more fully into the life of the Church.

ADRIANA BUCIO will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.

STEPHANIE BUCIO will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.

CLARA RODRIGUEZ will receive the Sacraments of 1st Communion and Confirmation.

JORGE HERNANDEZ will receive all of the three Sacraments of Initiation - Baptism,

Confirmation, and 1st Communion.
