The Shepherd and the Lamb
I have always associated lambs with spring, but since moving into the villages within the Hexagon area, I have learnt that lambs can be born from January to April, depending on the farming cycle. Some of our farmers are currently busy lambing, keeping an eye on when the sheep go into labour, help-ing with the birth and with the care for the lambs once they are born and keep-ing them warm in the cold weather. The farmers look after the lifecycle of the sheep and the lambs.
The imagery of God as a shepherd to his people permeates the Bible and one of the most famous illustrations is that of Psalm 23, ‗The Lord is my shepherd‘. It is a very personal psalm and prayer, exp ress ing the goodness of God and the confidence and trust in him no matter the circum-stances.
‗The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters; he restores my soul. He leads me in right paths for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil‘.

The authorship is attributed to some-one who is a shepherd turned King, with what seems to be a personal ex-perience of God, born out of life‘s ex-perience and who gives thanks for what he has when he says ‗you anoint my head with oil; my cup over-flows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life‘.
The shepherd of course never really knows what it is like to be a lamb and what that feels like!
It is interesting that Jesus is re-ferred to as the ‗Lamb of God‘ in the Bible, some-one who does experience a human life and someone who does understand. Perhaps in 2011 we can remind ourselves of the care of the shep-herd who knows what it is like to be the lamb and
give thanks to him for what 2011 will hold for each of us.

Arnesby children are included in the South Leicestershire Cross Country races which are a warm up event to area trials in March. The children are always enthusiastic competitors and represent the school exceptionally well. We are excited to be hosting Momo Theatre Company with their touring production of ―Car Less Talk‖ on Tue 15th Mar. It is an exciting production about travel and eco issues for the whole school to enjoy. We are one of twenty schools in Leicestershire who won a performance so we are very proud of ourselves. The School Council has been successful in their bid for funds to purchase water bottles for all pupils. Commission from the sale of school photos will be used to pay for these.

Families and carers with young children
are all warmly invited to the first ―Buggy
Service‖ at Bruntingthorpe, St Mary‘s
Church, with Reverend Andrew
Rhoades. There will be story-telling and activities followed
by singing and a chance to meet other families and chat

ward to seeing you there.

Christingle: The collection at the service raised £155 for
‗The Children‘s Society‘.
New Churchwarden: Following the Christingle Service on
5th Dec, Rev David Hebblewhite, Area Dean of the Guth-
laxton Deanery, officially installed Stephen Gillies as
churchwarden.
Carol Service: The collection of £125 was sent to ‗Shelter‘
Christmas Raffle: Many thanks to all who bought and
sold such a large number of tickets. Your help is always
appreciated. £418 was raised for church funds.
20.10 for 2010: Many thanks to those who have returned
jars. So far the amount already collected is £625. Contact
the churchwardens or Richard at the garage to return jars -
Or—20.10 for 2011: You can continue to fill
jars in 2011, and you will be offered a new
jar shortly. We shall be most grateful.
Heritage Group: When trying to compare
this winter with previous ones you realise the importance
of documented heritage history. From the school log we
found –1963, Feb 6th Mrs Pickering the headmistress got
stuck in deep snow and from Arnesby phoned the care-
taker to close the school. She then skidded into a lorry on
the A50 and badly damaged her car. 1940, Feb 5th snow
all over the County and Peatling Parva children couldn‘t
travel to school. From the postman‘s diary of 1892, we
read that snow lay on the ground from Feb 15th to Mar
17th, up to six feet at times. He was paid 2/6d (25 new
pence) a day by the ‗Waywarden‘ to help clear the high-
way. Can we have some village memories from the1947
winter? Alan Baker‘s memory from South Wigston was
pushing the barrow by himself to the Wigston Gas Works
(one mile) to queue for 1cwt of coke, he was 8 at that
time. [email protected]

This was the highlight of Christmas for many of those that attended. A special thank you to Gail Bell for organising members of the community to come and see this. Arnesby C.E. Primary School - Vacancy on the Governing Body:
There is a vacancy for a Community Governor at Arnesby C.E. School. A community governor is appointed to represent community interests and can be persons who live or work in the community served by the school, or persons who do not live or work close to the school, but are committed to good governance and success of the school. You might be a former pupil with relatively recent experience of the school and could assist school development and improvement from a new per-spective. If you would like to discuss this valuable role contact Kim Hall, Chair of Governors (0116 2478214) or Beryl Cane, Community Governor (0116 2478136).
IAN MORRIS R.I.P We would like to thank those in Shearsby and other villages who sent cards, messages and flowers to us after Ian passed away on Jan 3rd, 2011. Thanks to all who came to Ian‘s funeral in Bristol, which was very comforting. Lesley & Bas Morris
