The Royal Tour
It was quite a day as the crowds came out in force in Leicester to welcome the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh and the Duchess of Cambridge to the city as part of their Jubilee journey. The Hexa-gon Benefice played its part in and around the Cathedral service that they attended. Our headteacher at Arnesby CofE School was part of the bell ringing team, the children from Husbands Bos-worth CofE School welcomed the royal party outside the Cathedral, whilst rep-
resentatives of each parish Church at-tended the Cathedral service. It was a day that all shared with joy and most rushed back home to catch the televi-sion clips, the news items and the pho-tographs that were being shared!
During Easter we remember the journey of another person who is welcomed as Royalty. Jesus arrives at his friend’s house on Friday and there Mary recog-nises his divinity and in humility anoints his feet with expensive perfume. On Sunday he is welcomed as a King into Jerusalem where the crowds come out

in force cheering and spreading cloaks and branches to pave his way. On Monday though he starts to cor-rect bad practices, the excessive profit making and trading that is tak-ing place in the temple where people went to become right with God, and he overturns the tables. On Tuesday he tells people that the temple and its sacrificial system will be destroyed and that he will become the new tem-ple, the new sacrifice, through whom people can become right with God.
On Thursday he celebrates a meal with his friends and predicts his arrest and death. On Friday he is betrayed, arrested, falsely accused, beaten and crucified. On Sunday the tomb is empty and he appears again as Jesus Christ, resurrected to new life.
We wish you an Easter where you
can welcome Christ into your life and
know his grace and the love of God.

Cathedral Bellringers should be heard but not seen- The Queen’s Visit March 8th 2012 began like any other Thursday. I opened school by 8am, but had you looked closely a few clues implied today may be different. My best shoes, a neat bag, my pink leather clad passport and a protected “Performer” ticket. At morning break I exited from school and made my way to the city centre and the Cathedral. I may have been in possession of a “Performer” ticket, but no Vaughan Porch Entrance for me. Yes, I am part of a band but this one is very much un-seen. Whilst the front of the Cathedral thronged with people, guests and security, I was about to enter by a spiral staircase to the roof and stone steps to the belfry, following the strict security instructions we had been given 6 weeks earlier. Once we were all in the belfry the security gates were locked. We rang from 12noon until 12:35. The Tower Captain communi-cated by radio with various St Martin’s House and Cathedral stewards informing us when we should stop ringing. We
could hear musical parts of the service in all its glory. With nine minutes to go before the start of the next phase we moved to our bell ropes and as the organ began the National Anthem our bells pealed out. We were honoured that, as we had been blind to the whole event, we could join the school children to watch the Royal Party leave. Chris Dorian-Hurst

Guthlaxton Deanery Synod: Every PCC in the Benefice may have a representative to attend the Synod. Its purpose is to enable the Diocese to inform parishioners about activities and changes taking place in the Diocese, and also to get the opinions of the lay members on various issues which will affect their church. The Synod holds about four meetings a year which David Austin will report on in the Hexagon. Meeting at Enderby Parish Church on Feb 7th: The Rev’d Pete Thompson, director of St Martin’s house (the old Grammar School) described the activi-ties taking place at this venue and opportunities which are available for hospitality and meetings. This was followed by a brief discussion on the latest Deanery Plan for reorganisation in 2020, and dissatisfaction aired from certain benefices where the number of clergy is to be reduced. The arrangements for the Hexagon Benefice under the proposals essentially remain unchanged. A vote was taken which unani-mously approved the proposed plan which will be for-warded to the Bishop who may or may not accept the proposals. The Bishop will be coming to St Mary’s Lutterworth on Tuesday 9th October at 7:30pm to un-veil the overall final 2020 reorganisation plans. The Ascension Day Service this year will be held at St Mary’s, Lutterworth at 7:30pm. The next Deanery Synod meeting is on 24th May at St Mary’s, Lutter-worth. David Austin

Husbands Bosworth C. of E. Primary School: The Day I’ll Remember Forever.
Thursday the 8th of March was no ordinary day: on this
day the children of Husbands Bosworth Church of Eng-land School were meeting Her Majesty and the Duch-ess of Cambridge for the Queens Diamond Jubilee tour.
The Jubilee started here in Leicestershire and we were there to see it. As we got off the coach, thousands of people were swarming around us; the atmosphere was incredible!! We were marched right through the middle of the excited crowds of young and old. Shortly after, a scout band and an African choir walked past playing music and singing songs, raising the level of madness and spirit in the air. Later on, we heard news that the Queen had now arrived at Leicester train station and she was now making her way over to us in a Bentley.
Her majesty was here!! The crowds were going crazy!! All the bands and singers were fighting over who should play first!! Finally, the crowd calmed down and the Bishop and clergy greeted Her Majesty and led her into the cathedral with Kate. Everyone waited outside and watched the service on a large outdoor screen. It felt like forever but at around quarter to one the service finally ended. Never before in my life had I ever seen a more excited crowd!! Behind us, everyone was jostling about, trying to get at least a good view, but not us. We had already found a great position at the front. As the Queen walked by with Kate, we actually shook hands with them and starred on different news programs from around the world.
The day ended with a cheery goodbye and thank you from the Bishop of Leicester. It was the end of a once in a lifetime experience; a day I will remember forever.

and beyond (Mat.4;Mk.1;Lk.4). Yet many have passed t h r o u g h i t a n d l e a r n e d i t s w i s d o m . I have two lawns at my house that stretch from one side of the garden to the other. They had become a desert to me - huge, silent and dominating places, especially at the time of year when the grass never stops growing. I would start off mowing eagerly, but soon feel over-whelmed by the challenge. I had reached a peak, soli-tary and alone, and only then was I to discover the purpose of this journey.
One day I saw a tiny, bright purple flower appear on the back lawn. It shone out like a star in a black, cloudless sky; I couldn’t possibly have missed it. I felt it had ap-peared to tell me something, and I felt comforted by it. I was surprised to see it there and began to focus more on its beauty than on the deeper darker side of things.
I have learnt from this experience that I must pass through the wilderness of life, with all its struggles and strife, in order to reach the place where I really need to be. Then I will be surprised by flowers blossoming where they are least expected, as even in the deepest desert I will discover life. For there I will find God and be changed forever; and at the sight of Him “the wilder-ness and the dry land shall be glad, the desert shall rejoice and blossom…”
My Prayer for Lent: Lord, as you dispel our fears by whispering the promise of your presence, we thank you for those days in the desert where we have been given the opportunity to come close to you and to listen to your voice. Give us strength not to turn away. AMEN
