While you are making your plans for fun and adventure, don’t forget to look ahead and sign up for our mini- seminar with Lori Hillstead in August and the master seminar with Bobbie T in September. They are both such awesome artists, who really teach painting tech- nique while they are teaching their pieces. I am really looking forward to painting with them. Speaking of technique, we also enjoyed a very quiet class with Donna Carpenter at the last paint-in. You have nev- er heard us be so quiet. The butterfly pieces turned out lovely, and I have to say that it was one that started out pretty and got prettier as we went along. Sometimes we just need that kind of piece where we don’t have to mud- dle through a long process of “ugly” before it gets better. Donna has so much experience as a teacher and painter, and her quiet suggestions to each of us for improving our painting technique were much appreciated. I learned that about her when I painted next to her at a class in Ve- gas last year. She knew when to lean over and offer just a small suggestion to make a significant impact. Thank you so much for teaching for us, Donna. I hope you all are able to take some time to enjoy and cel- ebrate friends, family, and all that summer brings. And, I guess I don’t need to remind you that Fall is really not that far away. Sigh. Happy Painting! 1st Vice (Programs) News I want to personally thank Donna Carpenter for her wonderful class for that beautiful piece. I am such a

fan of Karen Hubbard and you made it easy for us to do…. and good luck teaching your piece at the 25th

Anniversary of the Las Vegas convention. In case you all didn't know that our very own Donna is teaching

there this year congrats to you.

Our next class is the beautiful little trinket box of the Roosters and Roses with Sandy Garcia. And we have

surfaces but you will have to come and pick them up from me. I still have some and the cost is

$15.00. Here are the lucky ones already signed up: Charlene Butler: Candy Sciarretta, Jeanne Rob-

ert, Charlotte Hicks, Sheila Elliot, Cynthia Megill, Leslie Pilcher, Renee Molloy, Merle Avery, Linda

Camp, Kenna Perrin, Linda Silvasy, Teri Hayes, Roxanne Walker, Ramona Jacobs, Nancy Walker

(Linda Sivasy Friend) Linda Eastom, Jean Cooke, Linda Howard, Linda Miller, Anita Lane, Donna

Johnson, Mindy Rupp, Nancy Lassen, Donna Carpenter, Jackie Hegle.

The class in August with Lori Hillstead is the Mixed Media watering can and we also have some surfaces

still available, and you can pick one up at the next paint-in. The class is $30 and the surface kit is $10 and

the kit consists of the watering can and the stuff for the butterfly. If you have your own surface the extras

are $5.

Now we also have the Seminar with Bobbie Takashima in September. I can't wait for

the class. I love Bobbie and all her designs. She is such a wonderful artist and teach-

er. I have known Bobbie for nearly 30 years and I treasure her as a friend. She is a

very giving teacher, you will love these classes, so don't miss out. I know I won't.

Garage Sale Gossip

This next meeting, on July 11th, is a great time for you to bring a few of your painting treasures to

sell. Just put a price with your initials tagged on each item. There will be space on a table or two for free

items too. Please feel free to put a money donation in the can for those items for the PHP Treasury .

"See you at the table".............(well maybe I might be there for a short time while Joanne S.

writes a few checks.)

Tips & Tidbits — Peggy Harris (Paintworks Magazine) ** Undercoat a shape starting in the middle of the shape and then spread the paint to the shape’s edges. This ensures thinner

paint on the edges and prevents a ridge buildup that is difficult to disperse.

** Any varnish can be wiped on, rather than brushed on. Use a small lint-free pad and wear protective gloves.

** Use a Swiffer mop to dust drawings while working. It works better than a brush…..

Ways & Means 2015

It’s that time of year again for our annual Ways & Means Raffle Fundraiser. As a member of Palomar Heritage Painters , you are aware this is our primary fundraiser of the year; therefore members are expected to participate in purchasing tickets to ensure our organization continues to be supported. Our drawing will be during the October paint-in. In the past this drawing has been held during the Christmas party but so much was going on last year, we decided to move it. Tickets will be available in July during the Paint-In day. If someone is not there and you can deliver their tickets to them, that would be helpful. Colored pictures will not be available with the exception of members who do not receive the monthly newsletter via e-mail. Please check out the pictures below. In addition, the pieces will be displayed at all remaining Paint-Ins until the drawing. Each member will be given 20 tickets at $1 per ticket and more may be purchased. If you mail me the tickets back, please indicate how you would like me to divide them. If there aren’t any instructions, I will divide them among the 3 pieces. I will take tickets any time before the raffle. If you have questions, please feel free to call or e-mail me. Linda Silvasy 13826 Little Pond Rd. Painting around the Web

Linda Silvasy has alerted us to two great websites which are now in the Resources section of our PHP website.

www.tolebrush.com — site for Nilda Rosa Rodriguez—colored pencil artist (Tab: Artist Websites)

www.coloredpencilsclub.com — 20 colored pencil projects from renowned teachers are taught over a year for $110.

Works out to $5.50 per project. (Tab: Magazines & Online Painting Instruction)

Registration is on for Creative Painting—Las Vegas Feb.28—Mar.4, 2016. Visit the Vegas Paint website for class

photos & registration instructions. www.vegaspaint.com

San Diego County Fair News: Member Linda Silvasy “cleaned up” with her submissions, winning

first place for a ribbon embroidery piece, donated award and first place for a poinsettia painted on a

book cover, and Best of Division + donated award + first place for her beautiful table and chair set

with an animal theme! Former member Astrid Fisher also won two first place ribbons for her stroke-

work submissions. Applause all around. I would ask all of you to consider submitting samples of your

lovely art work next year to keep decorative painting in the public eye. It was sad to see how small

the home arts division submission area has become.

PHP GENERAL MEETING MINUTES

June 13, 2015

Charlotte Hicks, President, called the meeting to order at 12:40pm.

Jeanne Robert, Secretary, made a motion to approve the old minutes as published in the newsletter. Merle Avery seconded.

Sue Bond, VP Programs stated she has received the special tin boxes for the July class at a cost of $15. She also had some of the

watering cans available for Lori Hillstead’s August mini-seminar at $10 each. Lori will bring the dimensional pieces the day of

the class. They are included with the purchase of the watering can or separately for $5. The October class is painted on a special

wooden tree in the Rogaland style and will be available for $30 or $35.

Sheila Elliott, VP Membership stated she has nametags for new members that just need to have their name written on with a

Sharpie.

Joanne Schutz, Treasurer had nothing to report.

Jeanne Robert, Secretary had nothing to report.

Leslie Pilcher, Newsletter Editor said she aims to get the newletter published two weeks before the next paint-in. Charlotte said

that Leslie has done a fantastic job with the website which has many great resources.

Sheila Elliott, Sunshine chair had nothing to report. But Charlotte reported that via Facebook she saw that two of our members

had had injuries and if other people see these things about members, we should let Sheila know so she can send out a card.

New Business. Charlotte reported that our coffeepot broke. Linda Silvasy volunteered to buy a new one.

In other news, Lin Henderson recently got married. Donna Carpenter, the teacher today, will be teaching a water mixable oil class

of a desert scene at the Vegas Convention next February. Linda Silvasy entered three items at the San Diego County Fair

(formerly the Del Mar Fair) and won on all three items. She won Best in Division and Donated Award on a table and chairs set .

Also entered a ribbon embroidery piece.

Ways and Means, Linda Silvasy reported that she has procured three items for the raffle. Kenna Perrin donated a piece painted by

Lorraine Perkins and Sandy Garcia donated two pieces. Color photos will be on the website but cost of printing color photos for

each member was too prohibitive, so a letter with the description will be sent along with raffle tickets to sell (or purchase).

Seminar chair, Charlotte Hicks reported that Bobbie Takashima will preorder the candlesticks and bags for her two day seminar in

October.

Holiday Party. No one has signed up to chair so we will just paint ornaments and have a potluck.

Garage sale. Marilyn Dixon reported that some of the items will be given away for free. If there are still items left, Charlene But-

ler will take them to beginning classes and/or a thrift shop. If anyone has items to sell personally, they are welcome to bring them

to a paint-in, put a price on them, etc.

Potluck. Thanks to all who brought food today and for those who have signed up for the July class. August is a mini-seminar so

food will be provided.

Raffle queen, Ramona Jacobs thanked all who have donated items for raffles and reminded those who won a basket if they don’t

want to keep the basket, return it to her and it will be used in another raffle.

Donna Carpenter of Art Creations Plus will have a seminar with Shara Reiner on September 5th.

Meeting was adjourned at 1:10pm.

Last Tip from Peggy Harris Three layers of base paint will allow you to remove rough edges in your painting by lightly scraping with an X-Acto Knife and

still not go through the base color. This also works to remove unwanted smears, thin lines (such as stems) that are too thick, and

more. It provides you with a great safety net. Just in case you don’t always get it right the first time.

Thanks to Marilyn Dixon for sharing these tips…...
