C o u r s e D e s c r i p t i o n Explore medieval Cambridge through the experiences of students, shopkeepers, monks and housewives! In the late Middle Ages, this placid country town grew into a bustling hive of intellectual inquiry, religious debate and spectacular artistry. For centuries the university and the town endured plague, riot, Reformation and war. This course will use the setting of Cambridge to explore everyday life for the diverse peoples that shaped the town and university’s early history. Through buildings, texts and artifacts, we will explore medieval people’s understanding of themselves, their world and their faith – and use recent discoveries and developments to discuss how the material remains of the past are still yielding up their stories to us today. As a travel course, we will take advantage of our location by taking field trips in and around Cambridge, as well as trips to London and York, to see sights such as the British Museum, Wellcome Institute, the Globe Theatre, the Jorvik Viking Centre, Barley Hall, York Minster, and a tour of the city and walls.

C o s t s a n d S c h o l a r s h i p s The actual program fee is $3,600, however, all students accepted who

participate in the course will receive substantial scholarship support ($1,500) bringing the cost down to $2,100. Further, the OSU Office of Study Abroad and Arts & Sciences Outreach have additional scholarships that students may apply for. The cost INCLUDES three OSU credit hours, guest lecturers, single room and board (free breakfast daily), travel insurance, and course-related excursions. Items are subject to change.

The cost EXCLUDES travel expenses to Cambridge, miscellaneous personal expenses, additional meals, and any costs associated with travel before or after the course. Scholarship support is made possible by The Lew Wentz Foundation and The Henry Bellmon Office of Scholar Development and Undergraduate Research’s Cowboys Scholars Society. All tuition and applicable program fees, along with the scholarship support you receive, will appear on your Bursar account at the beginning of the fall semester in August 2018. No OSU tuition waivers are usable for this course. Note: May 1, 2018 is the deadline to drop this course with no financial penalty. After that date, you will be responsible for all the course costs, even though it will not appear on your Bursar account until August. This is a statement of interest and application form, not an official OSU registration form. Completion of this form will only allow you to be considered for acceptance in the program. You will be notified within approximately one week of the deadline.
