THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH

Child’s Verse:Gen. 1:1

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Scripture Reference:Gen. 1:1

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.Job 38:7

When the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God [the angels] shouted for joy?

Burden to Impart:God created the heavens and the earth perfectly. This made the angels sing together for joy (Job 38:7). God had a plan and purpose for the heavens and the earth. This is why He created them in such a wonderful way.

Lesson:1. In the very beginning before God made the animals, you, and me, or anything else, God made the heavens and

the earth.2. In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth it was beautiful and perfect.3. It was so beautiful that when the angels saw the heavens and the earth they sang together and shouted for

joy (Job 38:7).4. God has a great plan, something very special that He wants to do. This is why He created the heavens and the

earth in such a wonderful way.

Additional helps: Pictures of the heavens and the earth from outer space

Craft—Picture of the Heavens and the EarthSupplies: White and black construction paper, colored paper for verse, scissors, crayons and glue.Preparation: Print out verse on colored paper and cut out strips with verse printed on it. Print out earth on white

construction paper. Cut earth shape out or leave for children to cut out.For kids: Give children the earth to color (and cut out, if not previously cut out). Glue earth onto black

construction paper. Glue verse onto construction paper.

LIGHT

Child’s Verse:Gen. 1:3, 5a

And God said, Let there be light; and there was light.…And God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night.

Scripture Reference:Gen. 1:3-5:

3 And God said, Let there be light; and there was light.4 And God saw that the light was good, and God separated the light from the darkness.5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, one

day.

Burden to Impart:When God created the heavens and the earth, everything was beautiful. But then something happened and everything became dark. Then God said, “Let there be light; and there was light” (Gen. 1:3). God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. God was preparing the earth for His great plan.

Lesson:1. Review Lesson 1 by reminding the children how beautiful the heavens and the earth were when God first

created them.2. Then something happened and everything became dark. Illustrate “darkness” by talking about things the

children cannot do in the dark.3. Because God has a great plan, something that He wants to do, He wouldn’t let the earth stay in darkness. God

spoke, “Let there be light; and there was light.” God saw that the light was good. This means God was happy with the light—He liked it.

4. Then God divided the light from the darkness. God called the light Day. When is it light outside? During the day. God called the darkness Night. When is it dark outside? During the night.

5. Remember how beautiful the heavens and the earth were when God first created them? Then the earth became very dark. God did not like the darkness, so He came and said, “Let there be light.” God was restoring the earth and making it just right for His great plan.

Additional helps:

Craft—“Let there be light” Book:Supplies: Black, white, and yellow construction paper, glue and glitter.Preparation: On yellow paper, print and cut out strips (8.5 inches long) with “And God said,” printed on them. Also

on yellow paper, print and cut out strips with “Let there be light” printed on them. Cut black paper in half.

For kids: Fold white paper in half. Glue black paper onto front of folder white paper. Glue “And God said,” strip onto black paper on the front. Inside, glue the “Let there be light” strip on the bottom of the page. Use glue and glitter to decorate the white paper inside.

AIR

Child’s Verse:Gen. 1:6

And God said, Let there be an expanse….

Scripture Reference:Gen. 1:6-8:

6 And God said, Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.7 And God made the expanse and separated the waters which were under the expanse from the waters which were

above the expanse, and it was so.8 And God called the expanse Heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, a second day.

Burden to Impart:On the second day God made the air (the “expanse in the midst of the waters”). God was preparing the earth for His great plan. Air is so important for all living things—plants, animals, and people. Without air, nothing could live. Only the earth has just the right air for people and other living things. God was preparing the earth for man and all other living things.

Lesson:1. Review the previous lesson on “Light”. After God created the light, the next thing He did was make the sky

(air).2. Read child’s verse. God made the sky. The sky is simply the air. The air is so important for man and all living

things. Encourage discussion by asking questions such as: Why do we need air? Why do insects and birds need air?

3. Only the earth has just the right air for plants, animals, and people. When God created the air, He was getting the earth ready for all living things, especially for Man. On the second day God made the air. God was restoring the earth for His great plan.

WATERS ABOVE (CLOUDS)

Child’s Verse:Gen. 1:6 And God said, Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters (below) from the waters (above).

Scripture Reference:Gen. 1:6-8:6 And God said, Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.7 And God made the expanse and separated the waters which were under the expanse from the waters which were above the expanse, and it was so.

Burden to Impart:After God made the air, He separated the waters below from the waters above. God knew that man and all other living things need water in order to live. So, He prepared the waters below and the waters above. The waters above are in the clouds. One day God would send the rain from the clouds.

Lesson:1. Review previous lesson. After God created the air, the next thing He did was separate the waters below from

the waters above.2. After God created the air (sky), He used the sky to separate the waters below from the waters above. The

waters above are in the clouds. Explain that there is water inside the clouds, and when they get full of water, it begins to rain.

3. In the beginning when God made the clouds, he didn’t send the rain right away. But He got the clouds ready because He knew that one day the earth would need the rain that comes from the clouds. Man and all living things need water to live, so god prepared plenty of water. Thank you Lord for making the clouds to give us water (rain).

Additional helps: Use a sponge shaped like a cloud. Immerse it in a bucket of water, lift it up, and show the children how the water drips down like rain.

Craft—Hanging CloudSupplies: Paper, rickrack (sp?), glue, craft sticksPreparation: Cut out clouds. Cut rickrack into 4-5 inch strips. For kids: Glue cloud onto craft stick. Glue rickrack onto clouds.

WATERS BELOW (SEAS)

Child’s Verse:Gen. 1:9a And God said, Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place,…

Scripture Reference:Gen. 1:9-109 And God said, Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear, and it was so.10 And God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters He called Seas; and God saw that it was good.

Burden to Impart:God knew that man and all other living things need water in order to live. So God prepared the waters below and the waters above. The waters below are the seas. Other places on earth where water can be found are springs, brooks, rivers, and lakes.

Lesson:1. Review the previous lesson—God made the waters above. The rain comes from the clouds above us.2. God also prepared the waters on the earth. Refer to child’s verse. God called this water sea.3. Besides the sea, there are also other places on earth where there is water, such as springs, brooks, rivers, and

lakes.4. Why did God prepare all of this water? Talk about how plants, animals, and man need water in order to live.5. God knew that man and all other living things need water. So He prepared a lot of water, enough for everyone

and everything.

Additional helps:

Craft—Pop-up picture:Supplies: White construction paper or cardstock, blue construction paper, glue, crayonsPreparation: On white paper cut four 2-3 inch slits vertically in the middle of the page for the pop up. Use template

to cut out shape of the water. Print verse and cut into strips. For kids: Glue the water onto the pop-up area. Glue the verse on the bottom of the page. Color with crayons.

THE DRY LAND

Child’s Verse:Gen. 1:9 And God said, Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear, and it was so.

Scripture Reference:Gen. 1:9-109 And God said, Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear, and it was so.10 And God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters He called Seas; and God saw that it was good.

Jeremiah 5:22 Do you not fear Me, declares Jehovah; do you not tremble at My presence; Who have set the sand as a boundary for the sea by an eternal statute, so it cannot pass over it? Although its waves toss, they cannot prevail; although they roar, they cannot pass over it.

Psalm 65:6 Who established the mountains in His strength, girded with might;

Burden to Impart:God gathered the water together in order that the dry land would appear. Without land there would be no place for people and other living things to live and grow. God was making the earth just right for His great plan.

Lesson:1. Last week we spoke about how God gathered the water together into one place. The waters are gathered

together into the seas. He did this so that the dry land could rise up and be seen. God called the dry land earth.2. The dry land includes all kinds of land such as mountains, hills, valleys, and plains.3. When God said, “Let the dry land appear,” very large pieces of land rose up and today we live in these dry

lands.4. Without the land, would the plants have a place to live? How about the animals? What about people? God

knew that people, animals, and plants would need a place to live and to grow. So, He prepared the dry land—Earth. He did this on the third day.

Additional helps: Bring a cup of dirt to show the children the dry land.

Craft—Dry land pull-up picture:Supplies: Blue cardstock or construction paper, tan construction paper, craft sticks, cotton balls, glue, scissorsPreparation: Print verse at the top of the blue paper. Cut out the dry land shapes. Cut the bottom of the blue

paper in the shape of the water. For kids: Glue the land to the craft stick. Fold bottom of blue paper up and cut a slit in the crease for the craft

stick. Color on the paper and glue on cotton balls. Put the craft stick through the slit in the bottom.

THE GRASS

Child’s Verse:Gen. 1:11a And God said, Let the earth sprout grass,…

Scripture Reference:Gen. 1:11-1311 And God said, Let the earth sprout grass, herbs yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit according to their kind with their seed in them upon the earth; and it was so.12 And the earth brought forth grass, herbs yielding seed according to their kind, and trees bearing fruit with their seed in them according to their kind; and God saw that it was good.13 And there was evening and there was morning, a third day.

Burden to Impart:After God made the dry land appear, He said, “Let the earth sprout grass.” God wanted the earth to grow many kinds of plants. Grass was the first kind of plant that God made grow on the earth.

Lesson:1. Remind children how God made the dry land and called it earth (Gen. 1:9-10).2. The earth is very good for growing many things. The first thing that God made grow in the earth was grass.3. There are many different kinds of grass. Some are good to play in. Some grasses are good for animals, such as

cows and sheep, to eat or graze on. If these animals didn’t have grass to eat, they would die.4. The grass in not only good food for many animals, but it also is beautiful to look at. Without the grass, the

earth would be like a desert. The grass is such a pleasant color—what color is it? What a wonderful Creator our God is. He not only made the grass for the animals to eat, but He also made it pleasant for us to look at.

Additional helps:

Craft:Supplies: Light green cardstock or construction paper, green tissue paper, scissors, gluePreparation: Print verse on the green cardstock. Cut tissue into pieces and cut fringe. For kids: Glue the grass onto the paper.

THE HERBS (PLANTS)

Child’s Verse:Gen. 1:11 And God said, Let the earth sprout grass, herbs yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit according to their kind with their seed in them upon the earth; and it was so.

Burden to Impart:God created the herbs (plants). The plants provide us with many important things, such as food, clothing, medicines, etc.

Lesson:1. Remember that after God made the dry land, He said, “Let the earth bring forth grass.” This was the simplest

kind of plant. Then He went on to say, let the earth bring forth herbs, which are plants yielding seeds.2. There are many different kinds of plants which give us many different things we need in order to live. Some

plants give us food such as fruits and vegetables, Some other kinds of plants give us grains, such as rice, wheat, corn, and oats.

3. Some other things that come from plants are spices, sugar, medicines, string rope, and cotton that can be used to make clothes.

4. Some plants are flowers that are very beautiful to look at and to smell. The bees make honey for us to eat from some flowers.

5. God knew that man would need food, so He created plants which give us the many different kinds of food. God also knew that we would need oxygen which is in the air that we breathe. So. God made the plants, which make the oxygen that we need.

6. When God made the plants, He was making the earth just right for His great plan.

SEEDS

Child’s Verse:Gen. 1:12a And the earth brought forth…herbs yielding seed according to their kind…

Burden to Impart:God not only created all kinds of plants, but He also created seeds for every plant. Once a seed is planted, it will grow into a new plant just like the one seed came from.

Lesson:1. Last week we talked about how God created the plants which have seeds. Today we are going to talk more

about seeds and how important they are. When God first created plants, He made them in a special way. Each plant has some kind of seed. The seed is a very important part of the plant. Once the seed is planted in the ground, what happens? It grows into whatever kind of plant the seed came from. Give the children some examples.

2. Once the seed has been planted and starts to grow, it has different parts. The roots always grow down, and the stem with the leaves always grows up.

3. There are all kinds of seeds. Seeds come in different shapes, colors, and sizes.4. A seed will not grow unless it is planted in the earth. Once it is planted, it will start to grow into a new plant.

Without the seeds, there would be no new plants. Aren’t seeds wonderful? Thank You, Lord, for seeds.

Additional helps: Bring a lima bean that has been planted. You can use the lima bean plant to show the children the different parts of a plant, including the seed, the roots, the stem, and the leaves.

Craft—Sunflower picture with seeds in middle:Supplies: Light colored cardstock or construction paper, yellow construction paper, green construction paper,

brown construction paper, sunflower seed in shellsPreparation: Using a small, heart-shaped punch, punch out yellow hearts. Cut a leaf shape out of the green paper.

Punch or cut a brown circle. Print verse on light colored paper. For kids: Glue brown circle and leaf to paper. Arrange and glue the yellow hearts around the circle. Glue

sunflower seeds in the center.

Child’s Verse:Gen. 1:11 And God said, Let the earth sprout grass, herbs yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit according to their kind with their seed in them upon the earth; and it was so.

Burden to Impart:When God created plants, including fruit trees, He was thinking about man. He knew that the plants and trees would provide man with food to eat, as well as many other needed things.

Lesson:1. Last week, we talked about seeds. When God made plants, He made them with seeds. When the seeds are

planted, they grow into new plants.2. Today we are going to talk about some big plants that God made. Does anyone know what a big plant is

called? A tree! A tree is just a very big plant.3. In the beginning, God created many different kinds of trees.4. Certain kinds of trees give us food to eat. These are called fruit trees. Ask the children to name some

examples. When God created the plants and the trees, He was thinking about us. He knew that they would provide food for us to eat.

Additional helps:

Craft—Green tissue paper trees:Supplies: Light colored construction paper, brown construction paper, green tissue paper, gluePreparation: Cut out tree trunks from brown paper. Cut tissue paper into squares. Print verse on light colored

GOD’S CREATIONLesson 11THE SUN

Child’s Verse:Gen. 1:16a

And God made the two great light-bearers, the grater light-bearer (the sun) to rule the day…

Scripture Reference:Gen. 1:14-1914 And God said, Let there be light-bearers in the expanse of heaven to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years.15 And let them be light-bearers in the expanse of heaven to give light on the earth; and it was so.16 And God made the two great light-bearers, the greater light-bearer to rule the day, and the lesser light-bearer to rule the night, and the stars.17 And God set them in the expanse of heaven to give light on the earth.18 And to rule over the day and over the night and to separate the light form the darkness, and God saw that it was good.19 And there was evening and there was morning, a fourth day.

Burden to Impart:On the fourth day, God made a strong light, the sun, to rule over the day. The sun provides the earth with light and heat. Without the sun, nothing could live on the earth. When God made the sun, he was making the earth just right for His great plan.

Lesson:1. Review what God created on the third day: the dry land, grass, plants with seeds, and trees with fruit.2. Today we will talk about what God created on the fourth day. Refer to child’s verse and ask, “What light do

you see in the sky in the daytime? At nighttime?3. Today we are talking only about the light we see during the day, the sun. God calls the sun the greater light

because it is a stronger light. God says that the sun rules the day. This means that the sun shines in the day, and chases the night away.

4. Why do we need the sun? It gives us light; it divides the day from the night; it gives us heat, making the earth a warm and pleasant place to live; it causes the plants to grow; it makes us healthy and strong.

5. Without the sun, there would be no life on the earth. When God made the sun, He was making the earth just right for His great plan.

Additional helps:

THE MOON

Child’s Verse:Gen. 1:16

And God made the two great light-bearers, …the lesser light-bearer (the moon) to rule the night,….

Burden to Impart:God made the moon to rule the night. There is no life on the moon—no air, no water. The moon is not the proper place for man to live. God made the moon to shine on the earth to give us pleasant light at night.

Lesson:1. Remember that last week we talked about the sun. God made the grater light-bearer, the sun, on the fourth

day. The sun shines during the day to give us light.2. On the fourth day, God also made light to shine at night. What light do you see in the sky at night? The moon

and the stars.3. God made the moon (refer to child’s verse). The moon is the brightest light in the night sky. The moon looks

like a flat circle to us, but it is round like a ball. Does the moon always look the same at night? No, sometimes we see just part of the moon. The moon is always round like a ball, but sometimes only part of it is lit, and we cannot see the dark part.

4. God formed the moon of rocks. On the moon there are many mountains, holes, and flat rocks. There is no life on the moon, no air to breathe, no water to drink, and no food that grows. We can see that the moon isn’t the right place for man to live.

5. God made the moon to shine on the earth to give us pleasant light at night.

GOD’S CREATIONLesson 13THE STARS

Child’s Verse:Gen. 1:16

And God made … the stars.

Psalms 147:4-54 He counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by their names.5 Great is our Lord, and might in power; His understanding is infinite.

Burden to Impart:God not only made the sun and the moon, but He made the stars also. They also divide day from night and give light on the earth. God created so many starts that we can’t count them. But God tells the number of the stars and calls them all by name. This shows us how great our God is.

Lesson:1. Review how God on the fourth day made the sun, the greater light-bearer to rule the day, and the moon, the

lesser light-bearer to rule the night.2. On the fourth day, God also made some other lights that we see in the sky at night. God made the stars that

shine at night. Refer to child’s verse.3. God made the sun, the moon, and the stars because He wanted there to be lights in the sky. He wanted these

lights to divide the day from the night and to give light upon the earth.4. The stars are very far away—that’s why they look so small. Some stars are big, others are little. They are of

different colors. Some look red or yellow, and others look white or blue.5. There are so many stars that we cannot count them all. But God counted them, and even calls them by name.

This shows how great our God is.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-21 For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven:2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted

Burden to Impart:God made the sun, moon, and stars to give us light and also to make the seasons. The seasons are spring, summer, fall, and winter. There is a purpose for every season. The seasons are for growing things on the earth. Today we will learn a little about the spring season. Spring is a beautiful time when a lot of plants grow and flowers blossom.

Lesson:1. God made the sun, moon, and stars to give light on the earth. He also made them for the seasons. There are

four seasons: spring, summer, fall, and winter.2. God made these four seasons with a purpose. He made them so that plants can grow on the earth to provide

man and the animals with food.3. Spring is the right time for the farmer to plow the land and to sow his seeds into the earth to grow his crop.

The rain in the spring causes the plants to begin to grow.4. In the spring, the flowers also start to blossom. Spring time is very pleasant and pretty.

Burden to Impart:There is a purpose for each of the four seasons. The last season that God made is winter. During winter, the land rests from producing. Let’s thank God for being the Creator of all the seasons.

Lesson:1. Briefly review the four seasons—spring is for sowing seeds, summer is for the seeds to grow into plants and

produce fruits, and fall is harvest time, time to enjoy the produce from the farmer’s labor. Lastly, there is winter.

2. The last season that God made is winter. After the harvest in the fall season, the land needs to rest.3. During the winter, the plants are “asleep” and the land is resting from producing food for man. After this rest

comes spring again, and it starts all over again.4. God is so good! He made all the four seasons to give us food that we may enjoy our lives and live. Let’s thank

Him for being the Creator.

Burden to Impart:God made an abundance of living creatures to fill the seas. We will be talking about the different kinds of animals in the ocean. This should remind us of how great our God is.

Lesson:God created the sea creatures on the 5th day. Today we will talk about the different kinds of fishes.

1. There are more than 25,000 kinds of fish. They differ in size, shape and the way they behave. The smallest fish is the pygmy goby. It is no longer than a pencil eraser. The biggest fish is the whale shark. It is as big as a tall building. Some fish are flat as pancakes, round as balloons or long like ribbons. (Show pictures of various fish)

2. What do all fish share? Most fish have scales. All fish have fins for swimming and gills which enable them to breath under water (use pictures to show scales, fin and gills). All fish have backbones.

Burden to Impart:We have seen that God created the animals in the sea. Since God is so great, He also made animals that can live either in the water or on land. They are called amphibians. The frog is an example of this.

Lesson:1. An adult frog’s size varies from less than 1 inch to 10 inches long. Frogs eat earthworms, snails, insects, spiders,

fish, birds and mice. They flick their sticky tongues to catch their prey. Frogs have wet skin and their strong hind legs help them jump and swim. They are not only green but can be many different colors, such as red, or orange. Baby frogs are called tadpoles. They have tails but no legs.

BIRDS

Child’s Verse:Gen. 1:21

And God created … every winged bird according to its kind; and God saw that it was good..

Scripture Reference:Gen. 1:20-21

20 And God said, Let the waters swarm with swarms of living animals, and let birds fly above the earth in the open expanse of heaven.

21 And God created the great sea creatures and every living animal that moves, with which the waters swarmed, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind; and God saw that it was good.

Burden to Impart:God created every kind of winged bird. He made them in a very special way so that they are able to make their own nests. God saw that His creation of the birds was good.

Lesson:1. Review what God created on the 5th day thus far (all the different kinds of fish and sea creatures and

amphibians)2. Today we are going to talk about another kind of animal that God made on the 5 th day. Let me tell you a little

bit about the animals and see if you can guess what they are. They have feathers, two wings, and lay eggs. Right, birds! God created the birds.

3. Every bird has two feathers, two wings, two lets, and lays eggs. Most birds build their nests for their eggs to hatch. Every kind of bird knows how to make their own kind of nest. God made birds that way. Some nests are very small; others are very big and hold 100 or more birds.

4. God made birds in a very special way in order for them to be able to fly. Birds have wing feathers and tail feathers that help them to fly. They have strong muscles to flap their wings and fly. Their bones are very light. This makes it easier for them to fly. When God created the birds He wanted them to fly. He said, “…let the birds fly above the earth in the open expanse of the heavens.

5. God created so many beautiful kinds of birds with many colors. He also created so many unusual kinds of birds. This shows what a wonderful Creator He is.

21 And God created the great sea creatures and every living animal that moves, with which the watersswarmed, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind; and God saw that itwas good.

Burden to Impart:God created every kind of winged bird. One kind of special bird that God made was the owl. God sawthat His creation of the birds was good.

Lesson:1. Review what God created on the 5th day thus far (all the different kinds of fish and sea creatures,

amphibians, and birds). Today we will talk about a special bird that God made, the owl.

2. Owls are nocturnal, which means that they sleep during the night, and are awake, hunting forfood during the night.

3. Owls have a large head with large eyes. They cannot move their eyes like we can. When theywant to look around, they have to move their entire head . . God make their eyes in a special waythat allows for them to see much better in the dark. He also created them with excellent hearing.

Craft:Supplies: Paper plates (2 per child), brads, crayons, black and orange construction paper, yarn.Preparation: Cut paper plates in half (1 per child). Cut out black circles and orange triangles. For kids: Attach "wings" to uncut paper plate with brads. Glue black circles as eyes on top of

brads. Glue orange nose. Color "feathers" with brown, black, and grey crayons. Attachyarn to each brad so that when pulled, wings will "fly" (see sample).

CATTLE & HORSES

Child’s Verse:Gen. 1:24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth living animals according to their kind,… and it was so.

Scripture Reference:Gen. 1:24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth living animals according to their kind, cattle and creeping things and animals of the earth according to their kind; and it was so.

Burden to Impart:God created all the rest of the animals on the 6 th day. The cattle is one group of animals that God made. God created these animals because He knew how much man would need them for his living.

Lesson:1. Review what God created in the 5th day: the fish and sea creatures and all the birds.2. God created all the rest of the animals on the 6th day, including the cattle and the horses. Today we will talk

about the cattle and the horses.3. Why did God create these farm animals? God created these animals because He knew how much man would

need them. Most of these animals which live on the farm do many things for man. Ask, “What do cows give us? (milk, meat, and leather)? What do horses do? (carry loads that we are unable to carry). In very poor countries cattle do a lot of hard work for man, such as plowing fields, etc.

4. Cattle serve man in many ways. The hamburgers we eat, the cheese we enjoy, the milk we drink, and the leather shoes we wear come from cattle. Other times they do a lot of hard work for man. When God mad these animals, He knew how much man would need them for his living.

5. Horses are beautiful, large beasts which usually weigh 100 pounds or more. They stand 5½ feet high at the shoulder and are about 9 feet long from the tip of its nose to its tail. Pasturing horses nibble on grass and plants. Working horses need more energy and are usually fed hay with grain.

6. Let’s thank our great God when we remember His provision for us. Our God is really wonderful! He created all these animals because He knew man needed them to do hard work. Thank You Lord for being the creator of all these animals.

Burden to Impart:Last week we saw how God created the bigger farm animals such as the cattle and horses. Today we will see how God also created the smaller farm animals.

Lesson:1. Review what God created so far on the 6th day: the cattle and the horses. God created these farm animals

because He knew how much man would need them for his living.2. Today we will see that God created many more farm animals for man. They are good for food.3. Roosters—need information. Male chickens, or roosters, crow loudly. Can you crow like a rooster?4. Chickens—they are very good providers for man. We often have a good chicken meal on our table. Chickens

eat seeds and corn. Female chickens, or hens, lay eggs which we also eat.5. Our God is really wonderful. He created all these animals because He knew man needed them for food. Thank

You Lord for being the Creator of all these animals

Burden to Impart:Last week we saw how God created farm animals such as roosters and hens (chickens) to be food for us. Today we will see how God also created another farm animal: pigs

Lesson:1. Today we will see another animal God created for man. He knew that man needed the farm animals for his

living.2. Pigs are another animal God made for man. Some of our food comes from pigs, such as ham and bacon.3. Pigs roll around in the mud to keep themselves cool and to protect themselves from insects. Pigs eat almost

anything, especially corn and alfalfa. They have stout bodies, short legs, thick skins usually coated with short bristles, and hooves on their feet

DOGS & CATS (PETS)

Child’s Verse:Proverbs 12:10a A righteous man regards (or cares for) the life of his beast (pets)….

Scripture Reference:Gen. 1:24-25

20 And God said, Let the earth bring forth living animals according to their kind, cattle and creeping things and animals of the earth according to their kind; and it was so.

21 And God made the animals of the earth according to their kind and the cattle according to their kind and everything that creeps on the ground according to its kind, and God saw that it was good.

Proverbs 12:10a A righteous man regards (or cares for) the life of his beast (pets)….

Burden to Impart:God created all the animals. He made some animals that are especially close to man. These animals are called our pets. They keep us company and we enjoy them. Therefore we should take good care of them.

Lesson:1. Review how God created the cattle including the farm animals on the 6 th day by using last week’s verse. “Then

God said, let the earth bring forth living animals according to their kind,… and God saw that it was good.2. When God created the animals He made some animals that would be especially close to man. These animals

are called our pets. A pet is any animal that is tame, kept as a favorite, and cared for by man.3. God created dogs and cats in a very special way. They are special to us because they keep us company and we

enjoy them.4. Dogs come in many breeds. Some dogs are mixed breeds. Baby dogs are called puppies. They are born with

their eyes closed and their ears sealed. About fifteen days after birth, their eyes and ears open.5. Cats hunt with long teeth, padded paws for sneaking up on prey, and sharp claws for tearing. Kittens are born

blind and helpless. Within two weeks, their eyes open and they can see. Their mother teaches them to hunt. They eat fish, chicken, beef, seafood, mice, birds, and other small animals.

6. How can we take care of our pets in the proper way? By feeding them and giving them water to drink, by playing with them, by showing them love, handling them gently and not teasing them or being cruel to them, and by grooming or cleaning them and their cages.

7. In the Bible God tells us that we should care for the life of our animals. Read children the verse. God made some animals that He knew would be our pets. We should take good care of the animals God has given for us to enjoy.

BEARS

Child’s Verse:Gen. 1:24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth living animals according to their kind,… and it was so.

Scripture Reference:Gen. 1:24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth living animals according to their kind, cattle and creeping things and animals of the earth according to their kind; and it was so.

Burden to Impart:God created the animals of the earth and He cares for them. This shows how much more He cares for us.

Lesson:1. Review last week’s lesson. On the 6th day, God made many different kinds of animals. We already talked about

cattle and horses, roosters and hens, pigs, and our pets (dogs and cats).2. Today we will talk about bears. Bears cannot see well, but thy can smell food miles away. All spring, summer,

and fall, bears eat as much as they can to fatten up for the winter. They spend winter in dens. But they are not hibernating; they are just in a deep sleep. Sometimes they come of their dens, but only on warm winter days. Bears eat insects, fish, seals, sea lions, small land animals, fruits, and honey.

3. American black bears are not so big. They look clumsy and sweet. They look like fun to play with. But playing with a bear would be a bad mistake. In a way, bears are more dangerous than tigers. Tigers look mean and sound mean, so we should stay away from them. But bears’ faces never change. They always look friendly and funny. But they are not. They cannot be trusted at all.

4. Another kind of bear is the panda bear. Pandas are like big stuffed toys and look like black-and-white bears. They have round white heads, two black eras, noses, and black circles around their eyes which look like they are painted on. They spend most of their time eating bamboo. At certain times of the year they eat just the leaves and stalks, and at other seasons, only the plant stems. Our Creator has given them strong jaws and big teeth to adapt to this kind of food.

5. Another kind of bear is the polar bear. Polar bears love the cold. Other bears hide in warm caves during the winter, but polar bears are always out in the cold. God shelters them from the cold with a thick layer of fat and shaggy fur. Even when it is cold and wet they stay warm and dry. There is even fur on the bottom of their feet. This lets them walk on the ice and not slip. Polar bears swim so well they can catch fish right in the water. They eat mostly seals. While their sight and hearing are poor, their sense of smell is keen and can alert them to prey as much as twenty miles away.

LIONS & TIGERS

Child’s Verse:Gen. 1:24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth living animals according to their kind,… and it was so.

Scripture Reference:Gen. 1:24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth living animals according to their kind, cattle and creeping things and animals of the earth according to their kind; and it was so.

Burden to Impart:God created all the different kinds of animals. Lions and tigers are two wild animals that we can see at the zoo. They are very strong. We can understand how powerful God must be by looking at the animals He created, and yet He cares for us more than these.

Lesson:1. Review how on the 6th day God made all the animals. Last week we talked about all the bears God created.2. Lions are called the “King of the Beasts.” The male is big and strong and around his neck there is a great mane

of hair (female lions don’t have a mane). He is the most noble-looking animal of all. But the lion is not the bravest animal. He will never go into a camp where there is a fire. And he runs from anything that flaps in the wind. The other animals run away from the lion’s roar. Lions eat antelopes, giraffes, zebras, and other meat.

3. Tigers have a large head with rather small ears. Their mouth is accented with long, white whiskers. They are known for their splendid black stripes, amber colored eyes, long yellow fangs, and powerful legs equipped with sharp claws. Tigers prefer to live and hunt alone. The Creator has given tigers a well-camouflaged design. Although they seldom harm humans, their ear-splitting roar can be heard for two miles, frightening the hearer. Though ferocious, the tiger is part of God’s creation.

have short tails and hardly ever climb trees. Woodchucks, chipmunks, and marmots are all ground squirrels. Squirrels look for places to store food in the ground and in trees. They carry the food in their cheek pouches, which can puff out.

4. Chipmunks are lively, chattering little animals which look like their cousins, the squirrels. They are smaller than squirrels, 8 to 11 inches long, and have striped backs. The chipmunk’s home is a burrow dug under rocks or tree roots or in old logs. It contains storerooms for food and nest lined with leaves. The young do not leave the nest until they are a month to six weeks old. Chipmunks eat nuts, seeds, wild fruit, and berries. They have cheek pouches in which they store food.

Scripture Reference:Gen. 1:24-25

24And God said, Let the earth bring forth living animals according to their kind, cattle and creeping things and animals of the earth according to their kind; and it was so.

26 And God made the animals of the earth according to their kind and the cattle according to their kind and everything that creeps on the ground according to its kind, and God saw that it was good.

Burden to Impart:God made all different kinds of animals called beasts. Some of these animals live in the forest. There are many smaller forest animals that are very unique and smart.

Lesson:1. On the 6th day God made many different kinds of animals: cattle, farm animals, and our pets. God also made

the beasts that live in the forest.2. Last week we talked about squirrels and chipmunks. Today we will learn about skunks and porcupines.3. Why are skunks unique? They are unique because they spray a bad-smelling liquid. Many other animals leave

skunks alone because of their awful smell. God gave them this smelly spray to keep them safe. Skunks live in dens—holes in the ground or snug hollows under rocks or fallen trees. They sleep during the day and hunt at night. During winter, skunks sleep most of the time until spring. They eat beetles, grasshoppers, wasps, bees, and mice.

4. Porcupines have more than 30,000 sharp quills on its body. If there is danger, the porcupine swings its tail like a club for protection. It cannot shoot its quills, but they can easily come loose if an enemy gets close enough to be stuck by them. Beneath the quills, thick fur keeps the porcupine warm. Baby porcupines are born with soft quills that stiffen in a few hours. They eat fruit, twigs, and bark

Burden to Impart:God made many wonderful beasts. Kangaroos are one of them They are called marsupials because they have a pocket or pouch to protect and carry their babies.

Lesson:Today we will talk about an animal that lives in Australia. You can also see it in the zoo.

1. A kangaroo’s ears look like a rabbit’s and its head looks like a sheep’s head. The kangaroo’s back legs are much larger an stronger than its front legs which are really more like hands. Its tail is almost as long as its whole body. The kangaroo has a very important pocket in front. God made a kangaroos this way for a reason. Their strong legs enable them to leap five feet at a time. Their large tail helps them to balance while sitting. The pocket or pouch is the perfect, safe place for their babies to live.

God made marsupials in a very special way with a pocket for their newborn babies to live in. Our God is so wise to create kangaroos this way.

Burden to Impart:We have seen that God created the cattle, the farm animals, animals that are our pets, and the beasts or wild animals, and the creeping things. God also created animals that creep, like reptiles.

Lesson:1. Reptiles are animals like alligators, crocodiles, turtles, lizards, and snakes. Most of the reptiles creep along the

ground do we may call them creeping things. The Bible tells us God made the creeping things (read child’s verse).

2. Alligators: They like to lay in the sun on the riverbanks or float underwater. They hunt in the early evening by slapping the water and catching fish with their open jaws. Their long and powerful tail enables them to swim with speed and skill. Despite thei rshort legs, they can run with surprising speed. They lay about 25 eggs each summer.

3. Crocodiles: They have long strong teeth. They are different from alligators because their snout comes to a point. Crocodiles can swallow some animals whole. They live in salt water. They lay up to 50 eggs. Sometimes crocodiles float very still. They feed mainly on fish, turtles, and water birds.

4. Why did God make all these strange and wonderful animals? The Bible tells us that everything that God made is according to His will and pleasure (Rev. 4:11). This means that all the animals that God created are pleasing to Him!

MONKEYS AND APES

Child’s Verse:Genesis 1:24Then God said, Let the earth bring forth the … beast of the earth, each according to it’s kind.

Scripture Reference:Gen. 1:24-2524 And God said, Let the earth bring forth living animals according to their kind, cattle and creeping things and animals of the earth according to their kind; and it was so.25 And God made the animals of the earth according to their kind and the cattle according to their kind and everything that creeps on the ground according to its kind, and God saw that it was good.

Burden to Impart:When God created the beasts of the earth, He made many different kinds of monkeys and apes that live in the trees of the jungles.

Lesson:1. Monkeys: Monkeys are really good at climbing trees. They run high up among the branches looking for food.

They spend a lot of time picking dirt and bugs off of one another. Many monkeys have long tails and use them much like an extra arm, swinging from them. Monkeys often make loud howling or hooting noises.

2. Gorillas: They are apes, short tails or no tails at all, and travel in groups. They build simple nests in trees. The mother and children sleep together. The father stays on the ground to keep his family safe. Sometimes the father gorilla does a wild dance and beats his chest. They eat bark, flowers, fruit and insects.

3. Orangutans: They are apes and live in trees, swinging from branch to branch using their strong arms. They almost never come down from trees. They sleep in a new nest every night.

4. Chimpanzees: They are apes with funny tricks. They are one of the only animals that can make tools to eat and drink. For example, they strip leaves off of a twig and use the twig to poke a termite mound. When the termites get on the twig, the chimps pull it out and lick them off.

Child’s Verse:Genesis 1:24Then God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature … creeping thing … each according to it’s kind.

Scripture Reference:Gen. 1:24-2524 And God said, Let the earth bring forth living animals according to their kind, cattle and creeping things and animals of the earth according to their kind; and it was so.25 And God made the animals of the earth according to their kind and the cattle according to their kind and everything that creeps on the ground according to its kind, and God saw that it was good.Rev. 4:11You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive the glory and the honor and the power, for You have created all things, and because of Your will they were, and were created.

Additional Helps:

Craft:Supplies: Green, yellow, red and white construction paper, large craft sticks, gluePreparation: Print crocodile head from templates on green paper. Print teeth from template on white paper. Print

tongue from template on red paper. Cut out each template. (You can use pinking shears for the teeth template.) Punch circles for eyes from yellow paper. Draw on nostrils. Draw pupils on eyes with marker.

For kids: Glue the white teeth to the long green template. Glue the red tongue inside the white teeth. Fold in half with teeth on the inside. On top, glue the green head. Glue on the eyes. Glue to the craft stick.

Lesson:1. Reptiles are animals like alligators, crocodiles, turtles, lizards, and snakes. Most of the reptiles creep along the

ground do we may call them creeping things. The Bible tells us God made the creeping things (read child’s verse).

2. Turtles: Turtles live in the water. They cannot live without their hard shells. The shell is the turtle’s home. When the turtle is in trouble, it simply pulls its head, tail and legs inside its shell. God gave this slow moving animal a shell to protect it from all kinds of danger. Turtles lay eggs, about 200 at a time, once or twice a year.

3. Why did God make all these strange and wonderful animals? The Bible tells us that everything that God made is according to His will and pleasure (Rev. 4:11). This means that all the animals that God created are pleasing to Him!

ANTS

Child’s Verse:Genesis 1:24Then God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature … creeping thing … each according to it’s kind.

Scripture Reference:Gen. 1:24-2524 And God said, Let the earth bring forth living animals according to their kind, cattle and creeping things and animals of the earth according to their kind; and it was so.25 And God made the animals of the earth according to their kind and the cattle according to their kind and everything that creeps on the ground according to its kind, and God saw that it was good.Prov. 6:6-8, 30: 24-256 Go to the ant, you sluggard; Consider its ways, and be wise,7 Which, having no chief, Officer, or ruler,8 Prepares its food in summer And gathers its sustenance in the harvest.24 Four things are small on the earth, But they are exceedingly wise;25 The ants are a clan without strength, Yet they prepare their food in the summer;

Burden to Impart:God created many different kinds of creeping things. Some of those creeping things are called insects. The ants are special insects because they are smart. They show us how to be good and hard workers.

Lesson: 1. Ants are very hard workers. They are not lazy at all. Ants have many jobs to do. (As you cover these points

below show pictures of each: see library books).a) Ants live together underground in a nest.b) The queen ant is the mother ant. She lays many eggs that will hatch into new baby ants.c) There are some ants who have the job of taking care of the queen. They feed her and clean her.d) There are some ants who have the job of taking care of the baby ants.e) There are other ants who go out to look for food. This is the most important job. The Bible says that

the ants are very wise because they gather their food in the summer. They know that when winter comes it will be too cold to look for food.

Who made the working ants? Our great God! God made all of the insects. The ants are special because they teach us not to be lazy but to be good and hard workers.

BEES

Child’s Verse:Genesis 1:24Then God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature … creeping thing … each according to it’s kind.

Scripture Reference:Gen. 1:24-2524 And God said, Let the earth bring forth living animals according to their kind, cattle and creeping things and animals of the earth according to their kind; and it was so.25 And God made the animals of the earth according to their kind and the cattle according to their kind and everything that creeps on the ground according to its kind, and God saw that it was good.Prov. 6:6-8, 30: 24-256 Go to the ant, you sluggard; Consider its ways, and be wise,7 Which, having no chief, Officer, or ruler,8 Prepares its food in summer And gathers its sustenance in the harvest.24 Four things are small on the earth, But they are exceedingly wise;25 The ants are a clan without strength, Yet they prepare their food in the summer;

Burden to Impart:God created many different kinds of creeping things. Some of those creeping things are called insects. The bees are special insects because they are smart. They show us how to be good and hard workers just like ants.

Lesson: 1. Bees are also very good and busy workers like the ants. They work together and never fight with one another.

The bees live together in a hive. The queen bee is the mother bee. She lays many eggs each day. The eggs will grow into baby bees. The worker bees have many jobs too. (Show pictures from books as you cover these points below).

a) Bees build a honey comb for storing honey and raising baby bees.b) Bees take care of the queen bee and baby bees.c) Bees fly out to collect food and water.d) They carry back nectar from flowers. From the nectar they make delicious honey.

Who made the busy bee? Bees are special because they teach us to be good and hard workers.

LADYBUGS

Child’s Verse:Genesis 1:24Then God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature … creeping thing … each according to it’s kind.

Scripture Reference:Gen.

Burden to Impart:Our great God made many different kinds of creeping things including thousands of kinds of beetles. The ladybug is a useful beetle because it protects the farmer’s crops by eating the insects that would destroy his crops, like corn or wheat.

Lesson:1. A ladybug is an insect because it has three legs. The ladybug hatches from tiny eggs. It is a yellow color after it

hatches. In a few weeks it attaches itself to the back of a leaf and forms a shiny chrysallis. When the ladybug comes out of the chrysalis, it look very different. It is now red with black spots and it has wings! It actually has four wings. The top two are stiff and are not used for flying but for protecting the inner pair of wings when the ladybug is resting.

2. Who made the beautiful, useful ladybug?

Additional Helps:

Craft:Supplies: Red poster board, black construction paper, black chenille stems, glue, stapler or tapePreparation: Cut poster board into strips long enough to go around child’s head. Punch small circles from black

paper to be glued on the poster board. Punch larger circles to go on the antennae (2 per child). For kids: Let children glue small circles on the poster board. Tape circles on end of antennae and staple or tape

to the poster board. Measure the poster board to fit child’s head and staple or tape together.

GOD’S CREATIONLesson 40SPIDERS

Child’s Verse:Genesis 1:24Then God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature … creeping thing … each according to it’s kind.

Scripture Reference:Gen.

Burden to Impart:God made many different kinds of creeping insects. God made small creeping things called spiders. God made the spiders in a special way in order for them to be able to weave their webs. Everything that God created was made perfectly.

Lesson:Spiders are different from other insects because they have 8 legs (count legs with children). Remember insects only have 6 legs.

1. There are many different kinds of spiders. Some are very small, others are as big as a plate. Most spiders are ugly and many people are afraid of them, but most spiders will not hurt people. There are only a few that are dangerous.

2. Spiders are able to make something very special called a web. God made spiders in a special way in order for them to be able to weave their webs. Silk threads come out of their bodies to make the webs. Each web has very many threads woven together in a wonderful and perfect way. The webs are all different shapes and sizes. The spiders are able to weave their webs very well. the spiders use their webs to catch insects for their food.

Who made the spiders so perfectly? Our great God! Everything god created was made perfectly!

BUTTERFLIES

Child’s Verse:Genesis 1:24Then God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature … creeping thing … each according to it’s kind.

Scripture Reference:Gen. 1:24-2524 And God said, Let the earth bring forth living animals according to their kind, cattle and creeping things and animals of the earth according to their kind; and it was so.25 And God made the animals of the earth according to their kind and the cattle according to their kind and everything that creeps on the ground according to its kind, and God saw that it was good.II Cor. 5:1717 So then if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away; behold, they have become new.

Burden to Impart:The butterflies are very special insects that God created. They are able to change from worm like creatures into beautiful butterflies.

Lesson:1. There are many different kinds of butterflies. Each has beautiful colors and markings (show pictures).

Butterflies are beautiful insects but they don’t start out that way. 2. Butterflies first start out as caterpillars. They are long worm-like creatures; not very pretty. They spend their

time eating leaves and stems and plants. 3. At the end of summer, the caterpillar stops eating and begins weaving a net of silk around itself; it becomes

hard and shiny and is called a chrysalis. This is the caterpillar’s new home. It stays inside through the cold winter.

4. When the chrysalis finally opens, a full-grown butterfly comes out. It spreads its wings and flies away to enjoy its new life. It now feeds on sweet nectar from flowers.

GOD’S CREATIONLesson 42

MAN IN IMAGE & LIKENESS OF GOD

Child’s Verse:Gen. 1:2626 And God said, Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness…

Burden to Impart:The very last, and most important, thing that God created was Man. God created man in a very special way, different from all of the animals. Man was made in God’s image and likeness. Impress the children that they are the most special of all of God’s creation. All of their physical and emotional attributes are very special and wonderfully made.

Lesson:1. Review how God created so many different animals on the 6th day. Ask them to remember the different kinds

of animals we have covered so far in God’s creation. However, there is one last thing that God created on the 6th day and it is the most important: God created MAN!

2. The very first man God created was named Adam. When God created man He was very happy. We know this because after God saw the man he created, He said, very good. When God created the animals, He only said that they were good. When he created man, He said it was very good. When you REALLY like something, you say it’s very good. God really liked the man He created more than anything else.

Additional Helps:

Craft:Supplies Precut people shapes; markers; crayons; glue on eyes; yarn for hair; foam art clothes or various shapes.Directions Have children pick a person shape. They can then glue eyes, yarn, etc., onto shape to make it into a person.

GOD’S CREATIONLesson 43

THE CREATION OF MAN

Child’s Verse:Gen. 2:77 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man became a living soul.

Scripture Reading: Gen. 1:20, 22; 2:7Gen. 1:2020 And God said, Let the waters swarm with swarms of living animals, and let birds fly above the earth in the open expanse of heaven.Gen. 1:2222 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let the birds multiply on the earth. Gen. 2:77 Jehovah God formed the man with the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul.

Burden to Impart:In this lesson we see how men and women are special in God’s creation because they are different than the animals. Adam was the first man God created and He did not create him in the same way He created the animals. He formed Adam out of the dust of the earth and then breathed into him the breath of life.

Lesson:God’s creation of Adam was different than His creation of all the animals.

1. God created the animals in great numbers by His speaking.2. God formed one man (Adam) of the dust of the ground (read child’s verse). Then God breathed into this man

the breath of life. When God breathed into the man He formed, man received life and became a living soul. God created man in a very special way very different from the way He created all the animals. He formed Adam out of the dust of the earth and then breathed into him the breath of life.

Additional Helps:

Craft:Supplies Gingerbread dough (or basic cookie dough); frosting; candy (like M&Ms for eyes; string licorice for hair, jellybeans

for mouths, etc); paper platesDirections Have some dough ready to show the children how God created Adam from the dust of the ground much like we

would mold dough into something. Then have some prebaked gingerbread men for the children to decorate and frost.

GOD’S CREATIONLesson 44

CREATION OF WOMAN

Child’s Verse:Gen. 2:1818 And the Lord God said, It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a help meet for him.

Scripture Reading: Gen. 2:18-2418 And Jehovah God said, It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper as his counterpart. 19 And Jehovah God formed from the ground every animal of the field and every bird of heaven, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called any living animal, that was its name. 20 And the man gave names to all cattle and to the birds of heaven and to every animal of the field, but for Adam there was not found a helper as his counterpart.21 And Jehovah God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; and he took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh in its place.22 And Jehovah God built the rib, which He had taken from the man, into a woman and brought her to the man.23 And the man said, This time this is bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh; This one shall be called Woman Because out of Man this one was taken.24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and shall cleave to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

Burden to Impart:God saw that Adam was alone. None of the animals were like the man God created. So He made the first woman, Eve, to be Adam’s companion. After God brought the woman to Adam he was happy because at last there was someone like him.

Lesson:1. Last week we saw how God created a great number of animals, but He only formed one man, Adam. Today we

will talk about how God created a wife for Adam and her name was Eve.

2. God saw that Adam was alone on the earth. There was no one that was like Adam. The animals were there but they were not the same as Adam. God wanted Adam to know this. So God brought all the animals before Adam. He named each of the animals, but none of them were like him. After Adam named all the animals he knew that none of them were like him. He must have felt very lonely.

3. So when Adam was sleeping God made a woman, Eve, to be Adams’s wife. When Adam woke up and saw Eve he was very happy. Finally there was someone who was like him. He was a man and Eve was a woman. They matched each other and belonged together.

GOD’S BLESSING-BE FRUITFUL

Child’s Verse:Gen. 1:2828 Then God blessed them and God said to them, Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth…

Scripture Reading:Gen. 1:28-2928 And God blessed them; and God said to them, Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of heaven and over every living thing that moves upon the earth. 29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth and every tree which ash fruit yielding seed; it shall be for you as food.

Burden to Impart:After God created man and woman He blessed them. He told man and woman to be fruitful and multiply. God wanted them to have many children and to form a family. God cares for us today through our family.

Lesson:Review briefly how God created man and woman. Ask children the name of the 1st man and 1st woman.

1. After God created man and woman, He blessed them. This means that God said some very good things to man. He told man to be fruitful and multiply. God wanted man and woman to have many children and to form a family.

2. What is a family? A family is simply parents and their children. The parents are the mother and father; the children are the brothers and sisters. Show pictures of families. Have children identify the mother and father, etc in the pictures.

3. Talk about the children’s families. Ask who has a mother, father, sister or brother. Emphasize how God has given each one of them their own special family. Our family does many things for us. Our parents take care of us by giving us food, clothing, a home, and most of all our parents take care of us by giving us love. Our parents and brothers and sisters keep us company so we are not alone. Do you see how God cares for us through our family? Our family is God’s blessing to us.

Additional Helps: Books of families from library

Craft: Family Collage/Frame Supplies Construction paper; glue; strips of paper doilies or other decorative items for frame border; family pictures of

children collected beforehand; glitter glue; foam art.

Directions Help children glue their pictures to construction paper (you can cut pictures out ahead of time if you are able). Make sure to leave about a 2 inch border around the paper so that you can later glue the decorative doily strips to make a frame. If a child is there who does not have pictures of their family for one reason or another, just have them decorate the frame and they can add the pictures later at home. Have cut out of for children to glue onto bottom of frame that says, “ My family.”

GOD’S PROVISION FOR MAN

Child’s Verse:Gen. 1:2929 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be for you as food.

Scripture Reading:Gen. 1:29-3029 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth and every tree which ash fruit yielding seed; it shall be for you as food.30 And to every animal of the earth and to every bird of heaven and to everything that creeps upon the earth, in which is a living soul, I have given every green herb for food; and it was so.Matt. 6:1111 Give us today our daily bread.

Burden to Impart:After God created man He told him that every plant (herb) and tree were for his food. God created the plants and trees for man’s food. So, our food comes from God. He cares for man by giving him food to eat. We should be thankful to God for the food we eat.

Lesson:1. Review how the very last, and most important, thing that God made was man. After God created man he told

him about the food that he had already prepared for man to eat. God wanted man to eat the herbs or vegetables from plants and fruits from trees.

2. (Show children many pictures of fruits and vegetables. Help them name each one. Explain that fruits come from trees and vegetables come from plants. Fruits and vegetables are the best foods to eat. They will make us grow to be healthy and strong).

3. Explain how God cares for many very much by giving him the best food to eat. From the 1 st man, Adam, to us today, God is still giving us our daily food. We should always be thankful to God for giving us food to eat.

MAN’S PHYSICAL BODY—SIGHT

Child’s Verse:Matt. 13:1616a Blessed are our eyes, for they see…

Scripture Reading:Matt. 13:1616 But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear.

Romans 1:1919 Because that which is known of God is manifest within them, for God manifested it to them.

Burden to Impart:To appreciate God for creating us with our five senses. God made us in a wonderful way. He created us with five senses to know and understand the world around us. We have two eyes to see, two ears to hear, a nose to smell with, a mouth with a tongue to taste and fingers to feel with. God gave us our senses to enjoy His wonderful creation. Even though we cannot see God, we can know about Him through His creation.

Lesson:Today we will talk about one of our fives senses, the eyes. Use scenic pictures and books to help children appreciate:

1. Their ability to see2. How our eyes are important to keep us safe.3. How we need our eyes to work together with our hands (here you can bring a child up and have them try to

stack blocks or bounce a ball blindfolded)4. How we need our eyes to be able to read.

Without our eyes we could not see God’s wonderful creation. We are blessed because our eyes can see. Although we cannot see God with our eyes we can know about God by seeing His creation (such as the mountains show strength. God is stronger than the mountains, etc).

We should be very thankful to God for giving us two eyes to see with. Read child’s verse.

Craft: Sun catchersSupplies Different colors of cellophane wrap cut into many shapes bigger than the cut outs on the construction paper;

different shapes cut out on construction paper (craft stores will do them for you); glueDirections Have children choose what sheet they want and different colors of cellophane wrap pieces. Then they can glue or

tape the cellophane to one side of construction paper behind the cut out shapes. They can hang them from windows at home so the sun can shine through the colors.

MAN’S PHYSICAL BODY—HEARING

Child’s Verse:Matt.13:16b16b Blessed are…your ears, because they hear.

Scripture Reading:Matt. 13:1616 But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear.

Burden to Impart:To appreciate God for creating us with our five senses. To explore hearing, which is done through our ears. To realize it is a blessing to be able to hear.

Lesson:Review the five senses.

1. Hearing is the sense with which we receive sounds into our brain. Our brain separates the different sounds for us so that we can identify what we hear. Practical applications of our hearing:

a) Play a tape/cd with different sounds and have children identify each sound. b) Have children close their eyes while teacher makes a sound (such as clap hands, rub hands, stamp

feet, tap on the wall, etc.) and have them identify the mystery sound. Also, have different items in black film canisters, margarine containers, or other containers. Some items can include: pennies, macaroni, cereal, and rice or whatever you like. The children will guess what is in each container based on the sound

c) Stress the fact that we hear certain sounds at certain places: at the zoo, school, a farm, etc.

God gave us such a wonderful sense for us to hear the things surrounding us. Ask children what would happen if God did not create such a sense. What would happen if we cannot hear at all? We should be thankful that our ears can hear.

Additional Helps: Polar Bear, Polar Bear What Do You Hear?, Eric CarleCraft: Supplies Paper plates; pasta; beans; bells; clear contact paper; different colors of tissue paperDirections Each child will need 2 paper plates. Decorate the plates on top with a collage of tissue paper. One or both sides

can be decorated. Children add rice, pasta, small bells or other preferred noise makers. The two plates are sealed with clear contact paper.

MAN’S PHYSICAL BODY—TASTE

Child’s Verse:Psa. 34:8a8a O taste and see that the Lord is good.

Scripture Reading:Psa. 34:88 Taste and see that Jehovah is good; Blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him.

Psa. 119:103103 How sweet are Your words to my taste! Sweeter than honey to my mouth!

Burden to Impart:Review the five senses with emphasis on how fearfully and wonderfully God created us. This week on lesson will be on the sense of taste.

Lesson:1. The tongue is man’s chief organ of taste. On the tongue are the taste buds. These help us taste food.2. Different areas of the tongue are especially sensitive to the four basic tastes—sweet, salty, sour and bitter. 3. Place edible cooking products into small plates or bowls. Have the child taste it and tell which one it is. For

example, cinnamon and cocoa powder, sugar and salt, a pear and an apple, lemon juice, etc. Have the child taste it, and tell you what he/she thinks it is. Discuss how they taste.

God gave us the sense of taste so that we can enjoy our life. However, what He wants most is that we “taste Him” and know that He is really good: O taste and see that the Lord is good. One day YOU will be able to taste that the Lord is good.

Additional Helps:

Craft: Edible Necklace or BraceletSupplies Yarn; pipe cleaner; tape; Cheerios; Fruit loops; Apple JacksDirections You can use a pipe cleaner (chenille stem) and make a bracelet (great for pre-schoolers) or yarn for a necklace.

Have the child ring cold cereal onto it. They can do patterns or whatever they want. For the yarn: tie the ends off. For the pipe cleaner: trim, wrap it around the ends, and tape together (so the metal part does not hurt the child).

GOD’S CREATIONLesson 50

MAN’S PHYSICAL BODY—SMELL

Child’s Verse:Psa. 139:14a14a I will praise Thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

Burden To Impart:To appreciate our sense of smell. God created us with our five senses to know and appreciate the world around us. Our sense of smell is not necessary in order to live, but it makes our life more enjoyable. It also helps to protect us from things.

Lesson:Review the five senses.

1. Today we will talk about our sense of smell. What do we use to smell with? Our nose is not only important for smelling odors but also for breathing air. Deep inside of our nose there is a special part that smells the odors. The smell goes to our brain. Then our brain tells us what it is that we have smelled.

2. Ask questions and use books to talk to them about how different smells help us know what is around even when we can’t see them. For example, we know when a skunk has been around by the smell he leaves. We also know when something is burning by the smell of smoke. Also, we know when our mom is making yummy food like cookies or brownies by the smell in our house. On the other hand, our sense of smell lets us know when something is not good for us to eat so we don’t get sick.

3. God gave us all of our senses so that we can know and enjoy the world around us.

Additional Helps: Books about using our sense of smell for safety like in fires, etc; scratch n’ sniff related books

Craft: Scratch n’ sniff fruitsSupplies Jell-O flavors(below); glue; paper fruit cut-outs; small paper cups; aluminum foilDirections Give each child one of each paper fruit cut-outs: strawberry, grape, orange, lemon, watermelon. Place the

different flavored gelatin powders in small paper cups covered with aluminum foil with holes punctured on top (have them do them in groups of 2 or 3 from one end of the table and then switch the cups around so the next group won’t know what the cups are holding). The children must sniff each container and place the matching picture that corresponds to the scent. Once they’re done, the children can color the pictures with markers, spread glue on them and sprinkle on flavored gelatin powder to add the corresponding scent.

MAN’S PHYSICAL BODY—TOUCH

Child’s Verse:Luke 18:1515 And they were even bringing to Him their babies, that He might touch them…

Scripture Reading:Luke 18:1515 And they were bringing to Him also their babies that He might touch them. But when the disciples saw this they rebuked them.

Matt. 19:13-1513 Then the little children were brought to Him that he might lay His hands on the and pray, but the disciples rebuked them. 14 But Jesus said. Allow the little children and do not prevent them from coming to Me, for of such is the kingdom of the heavens. 15 And after He laid His hands on them, He went on from there.

Burden to Impart:We should always remember that God our Creator gave us our five senses so that we can enjoy our human life. Without our senses it would be difficult to appreciate the things God created for us. Our sense of touch is very important to us.

Lesson:Review the five senses. So far we have covered the sense of sight, hearing, taste, and smell. Today we will cover the last sense: touch.

1. One way we are able to feel things is through our skin. The skin has built in “feelers” that are very sensitive. For example, we can feel it when a little ant crawls across our foot, someone tickles us, a bee stings us, we have an itch, etc. Our hands and fingertips are especially good at feelings things. We know when something is too hot or too cold. Our sense of touch is one of the best ways we keep ourselves safe. We feel pain when we hurt ourselves and that is good because it tells us that we need help.

2. Place various objects in different lunch sized paper bags. For example, orange, apple, lemon, shoe, coin, facial tissue paper, cold cooked noodles, etc. Have the child feel what it is and tell you what they think it is.

Ask them what are some ways that they use their sense of touch?

Without our sense of touch, we would not be able to feel our mother’s kiss or our daddy’s hug. It is enjoyable to receive and give hugs. Even when the Lord Jesus was on the earth, he liked to touch the children and hold them close.

Additional Helps: Books about safety and touch Craft: Hand Prints

Supplies Washable Finger paint; card stock; bucket of water; hand towelsDirections Have children place ONE hand in finger paint and make an imprint of their hand. They can do just one imprint with

the one hand or many. Make sure to write the date on the paper. Have a bucket of water and hand towels ready to wipe the paint immediately.

GOD’S CREATIONLesson 52

GOD’S REST ON THE 7TH DAY

Child’s Verse:Gen. 2:22 And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done and He rested on the seventh day…

Scripture Reading:Gen. 2:1-21 Thus the heavens and the earth and all their host were finished. 2 And on the seventh day God finished His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.

Burden to Impart:God is a wonderful creator. God make all of the items of creation in 6 days. Man is the most important thing that God made. After God created everything He was happy and satisfied and so he rested on the 7 th day.

Lesson:Review the days of creation. You can use print outs from the mini book:http://www.dltk-bible.com/genesis/creation/book.htm. Go through what was basically created on each of the days with some kind of visual presentation.

1. Stress what a wonderful Creator God is. God made all the items of creation in 6 days. 2. Point out that man is the most important thing that God made. Man was made in God’s image and likeness.

On the 6th day after God created man, He looked at everything He had made and saw that it was very good. This made God very happy and satisfied and so He rested on the 7th day. Stress that God rested not because He was tired but because he was so satisfied with everything that He made, especially man. This gave God rest.

Additional Helps:

Craft: Creation bookSupplies 8 ½ x 11 white cardstock (cut in half); hole puncher; cut-outs of creation items; yarn; black & brown construction

paper; blue saran wrap; cotton balls; verse cut-out; pictures of childrenDirections Have children glue various items for each day of creation onto the cardstock (8 pieces for each child with 3 holes

already punched in). Bind the books with yarn as they finish.

Day 1: glue black construction paper to half of white cardstockDay 2: glue blue saran wrap to bottom of page for waters; cotton balls for cloudsDay 3: cut-outs of trees, flowers, brown construction paper strip for landDay 4: cut-outs of sun, moon, and stars glued to sheet.Day 5: cut-outs of birds, fish glued to sheet; more blue saran wrap glued to bottom to make water.Day 6: cut-outs of animals and pictures of the kids glued on page.Day 7: Verse cut-out saying, “And God saw everything that he had made, and it was indeed, very good…” and “He rested on the seventh day…” Gen.1:31a; 2:2b
