T HE HAYMEADOW FLYER Our 38th Year! EAA CHAPTER 640, CENTRAL WISCONSIN NEXT MEETING DATES, TIMES AND LOCATIONS The September meeting will be held Sunday, September 10th at 12:00 p.m. at the Wausau Downtown FBO. Thanks to Wausau Flying Service for providing the space! WHAT OUR MEMBERS ARE UP TO While it’s hard to believe Oshkosh is over for the year, Chapter 640 was well represented by all at the Convention! Syd Cohen flew in for the week and many other members drove / camped to see the largest Oshkosh to date. Dave Conrad held a forum on Learn Build Fly and an update to the project on Thursday morning. Chapter 640 was also the proud recipient of a lightly-used Lincoln TIG welder from EAA. Headquarters used a petition process to determine which chapters should receive the few welders and 640, with a passionate membership and the work being done with Learn Build Fly, was giſted one. Thanks to Dave Conrad and Kurt Mehre for applying and picking the welder up during OSH. The AirVenture Cup Race also went off without a hitch for 2017. Crowd turnout was good and the race pilots appreciated all the delicious food prepared by 640 Members. Special thanks to Bob Mohr for cooking and all members who contributed food and time to the event! AUGUST MEETING NOTES• The August meeting was held at Dave and Terry Conrad’s

home on Saturday, August 12th. Thanks to Dave and Terry for hosting us for the evening!

• The meeting was called to order at 6:17 p.m. 38 mem-bers and guests were in attendance, including one ‘fly-in’ (piloted by member Dyer Kimm with both feet on the ground!)

• The meeting minutes from the July 2017 meeting were approved with no corrections or changes.

• A motion to approve the Treasurer’s report was made by Kurt Mehre and seconded by Bob Mohr. All voted in favor. Currently, 640 has $32,802.30 in savings, $1,040.91 in checking and $110 cash on hand. This includes $315 that were donated by the AirVenture Cup Race pilots for the lunch put on by the chapter.

• Guests in attendance included Peter and Sheila Lewandowski, along with their children. They are frequent attendees at the Learn Build Fly builds and have helped with many 640 events. Also attending were Don and Katie Winch, who sponsor the fly-in meeting each year at their airstrip, Dave and Carol Pringle from Stevens Point and Bob Swoboda.

• Scott Feldbruegge thanked all members who came out to help at both the Wausau Balloon Rally and the AirVenture Cup Race, especially to Bob Mohr for provid-ing the lions share of cooking for the Race. Feedback from the Race pilots was more than positive, with the majority noting that they made the extra stop in Wausau because they knew they would get a great meal and see great people. Bob also mentioned that John Chmiel saw everything as a huge success for the airport and Wausau and thanked everyone who spent time making the events so.

• Dave Conrad provided an update on Learn Build Fly’s progress on both the aircraft and the hangar planning. The group is hoping that concrete work can begin as early as mid-October. In addition, Dave and Kurt Mehre shared some positive comments from EAA Headquarters aimed at Chapter 640 regarding the chapter’s involvement in the community with events, Learn Build Fly and Young Eagle flights.

• A motion to adjourn was made at 6:40 p.m. by Bob Mohr and seconded by Dustin Unertl.

LEARN BUILD FLY BUILD UPDATEThe Tuesday night group is making steady progress on the Legacy - tabs for the floor have been welded to the fuselage and work is starting on welding stringers onto the frame. The wings are nearly complete and will be ready for covering soon. The group has also been getting a large number of new faces in week after week and some of the younger attendees have picked up AutoCAD very quickly, creating a few parts already. Learn Build Fly’s hangar project is moving full steam ahead - plans have received all necessary approval from the city and work will be commencing on the grounds in mid-September. The first down payment for the 60’x88’ hangar was also paid on August 17.

Thanks to everyone who made 2017 a success! See you all in 2018!
