SPECIALIZING IN lUXURY BOTTlES UniqUElY PosiTionED on THE mArKET

The glassmaking plant in Feuquières, which also serves as the Group’s current headquarters, was founded in 1897. It engages in an industry that has a long-standing tradition in the Bresle River valley, which has been one of the glassmaking strongholds since the 15th century. From 1969 to 1976, the Feuquières plant was owned by Société Autonome de Verreries that was part of the Saint-Gobain Group.

When Loïc Quentin de Gromard, the current CEO of Saverglass, took over the helm at the company in 1985, he decided to focus on hyperspecialization to give the company a viable foothold in a market dominated by large-scale groups. Saverglass went on to seize a strategic position in the niche market of luxury bottle sector.

Flexible production of small batches enabled Saverglass to offer a product that did not exist in the eighties and the company has since based its growth on the mission to manufacture premium products, especially in the spirits segment.

Launched in 1991 at the Feuquières location, the decoration business supplemented the company’s high-end service and brought new solutions to a growing demand for sophistication and customization. It also gave the company a niche position in the glassmaking realm, with expertise that ranges from glass production to customization. Today, Saverglass is the world leader in the premium and super premium bottle markets. Its production equipment and expertise have enabled it to handle high-volume orders, while still meeting the specialized requirements of its customers for special and small-run batches. This technological expertise, the high quality of its services, and its creativity enable Saverglass to hold a unique position on the market.

❚ Saverglass creates more than 150 new bottles and more than 300 decorations per year.❚ Thanks to more than 25 years of close work with designers, the research department is an industry leader when it comes to best practices for assessing project feasibility, as well as optimizing bottle modeling, labeling, sealing, and design.

Saverglass is the partner of groups such as LVMH, Pernod Ricard, Bacardi Martini, Diageo, Rémy Cointreau, Campari, Roederer as well as brands such as Grey Goose vodka, Cristal Roederer champagne, Hennessy, Martell, and Rémy Martin cognacs, Chivas whiskey and the grand cru wines of La Romanée-Conti and Château Margaux.

pRESTigiOUS CUSTOMER REFEREnCES

A CollECTion OF UniQUE pROdUCTSWhen it comes to differentiation and sophistication, the last 25 years have seen the company provide wine and spirits bottles that have shifted away from traditional designs. It has taken the freedom to play with shapes, colors, and the geometries of punts, shoulders, bodies, and thick bases – all of which create a tableau of original forms that respond to the demand for premium packaging design in the wine and spirits industry.

The Saverglass portfolio of bottles has proven to be the largest and most diversified on the market, consisting of more than 400 models available and a broad selection of product lines (ranging in volume from 5 cl to 6 liters). Every year, many innovations are added that represent the fruits of the company’s research in design as well as its cross-category expertise (wines and spirits). It can thereby offer inspired solutions to brands that want to launch new products, stand out from the competition, or upgrade their marketing approach to a premium class level.

Early on, Saverglass decided to base its quality on the ISO 9001 standard (Afaq & Lloyd’s Register) and received that certification in 1993, becoming the first glassmaking company to obtain it. The ISO 9001 standard pertains to the ability to design, produce, inspect, and deliver products according to a constant process enabling one to ensure continuous quality.

The products manufactured by Saverglass are intended for the food industry and are designed according to the HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) system. The company is also certified according to ISO 14001 (environmental management) and ISO 18001 (compliance with occupational health and safety regulations).

This comprehensive approach led Saverglass management to launch a “Business Continuity” tool for the benefit of its customers’ requirements in terms of glass and decoration.

QUaliTY: THE ComPAnY’s bACKbonE

The purity of the glass, its clarity, and transparency define premium-level quality. Although 95 percent of the ingredients consist of silica, sodium carbonate (soda), and calcium oxide (lime), the remaining 5 percent are just as critical and influence the mechanical, chemical, and visual characteristics of the glass. Saverglass’s expertise gives its products unique qualities that stem from enhancing the composition of the glass. The quality of the “skin,” which is seen as the brilliance of the glass, is also obtained by implementing high-end tools and equipment, closely monitored melting processes, rigorous maintenance programs, and the ability to fine-tune various procedures.

In order to continually improve the quality of its products and services, the Saverglass Group has developed a strong culture of innovation on the shoulders of its 25-person R&D department that is committed to finding innovative, functional, and cost-effective solutions.

The Organic Color Play® process is a recent development that ideally exemplifies this state of mind. It pertains to a 100-percent environment-friendly decoration process that does not use heavy metals, utilizes less fossil fuel to manufacture, and allows for recycling, while giving bottles the opportunity to sport crisper, brighter, and more dazzling colors. In fact, the result is a virtually infinite range of chromatic variations.

A STRONG PRESENCEWORldWidE

Starting in the nineties, Saverglass began to expand internationally by establishing distribution subsidiaries and branch offices, including: the UK and the US in 1995; South Africa in 1997; Poland in 1999; Spain and Portugal in 2000; Australia in 2002; New Zealand, Moscow and Istanbul in 2005, and most recently Mexico and Italy in 2012.Today, more than two-thirds of the sales teams, comprised of 120 individuals, are locally present in their customers’ markets. The very first export market was for premium whisky in Scotland and whiskey-and-cream spirits from Ireland. Saverglass is currently present in all premium spirits and high-end wine production regions in France, the US, the UK, Spain, and Portugal among others. Given that Saverglass based its growth on premium spirits and wine categories, it felt compelled to support its presence in vineyards of the New World (California, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa) so as to have a broader product portfolio that could respond more fully to these fast-growing markets. To further expand its global presence, Saverglass opened its fourth glass production facility in Ras al-Khaimah, the United Arab Emirates, in January 2013.

Now as in the past, Saverglass’s dynamic nature and speed of execution continue to impress. Our market is expanding and we are seeing two trends. One is the strong increase in the super and extra premium segments in the spirits market, which have helped establish our reputation. The other is a rapid growth in the New World wine markets, where historically we initiated the movement towards distinctive looking bottles in the nineties. To boost our innovation driven presence in the super premium segment in these wine market, that are characterized by a very diversified customer base, we needed to have a wider portfolio of standard premium bottles to supplement the existing product lines. To assist our network of distributors, we opted to set up a first-class logistics center in the United Arab Emirates. At the same time, the core business of spirits in “extra white flint” glass bottles urgently required additional capacities in Europe. The plant in Ras al-Khaimah has freed up capacities by responding to this demand, and has enabled other plants to dedicate their output to the super premium segment of the worldwide spirits market. The last aspect of this multi-layer approach is that Saverglass set up a new, ultramodern bottle decoration plant located in Arques in the second half of 2013. Representing the latest in environment-friendly concepts, this plant will increase capacity by an additional 25 percent. Accordingly in two years, our efforts will result in the deployment of an impressive output-related growth in the wine market, enhanced capacity in the super premium spirits segment, expansion of the decoration systems, and a very solid "business continuity” package for the glass and decoration activities.
