History of Greater Lafayette Holocaust Remembrance Committee The Greater Lafayette Holocaust Remembrance committee organizes and plans the annual Greater Lafayette Holocaust Remembrance Conference (GLHRC), which has traditionally been held in late March or early April. In 2011, the conference date was moved to November. The conference has been held in various places around West Lafayette, including Purdue University and the Hillel Foundation (GLHRC.org), from as early as 1982. It has lasted from one to seven days, with multiple lecture, workshop, and discussion sessions, a film, and a meal comprising the events of the conference. Each conference has a different theme that is related to the Holocaust; most reference the Holocaust explicitly. Relevant issues of contemporary interest are also selected as topics of sessions. In 2007 several sessions were dedicated to examining the Darfur conflict. Speakers who lecture or lead discussions come from a variety of backgrounds, including local residents to international academics. Several speakers have been Holocaust survivors. In recent years, the conference has offered a special session for educators as well. Although sponsored by the GLHRC, the conference is also supported by cooperation with many area organizations, religious groups, and university departments (GLHRC.org). Arrangement

1. Correspondence, Publicity, and Miscellaneous Papers, 1980s-2013 (5.25 cubic feet). The series documents organization, correspondence, and publicity regarding the GLHRC. Much of the correspondence is addressed to Rabbi Gedalyah Engel, former director of the Hillel Foundation at Purdue. The series also includes news clippings featuring stories about then-current events topics relevant to the social justice focus of the conference, such as the North Newton School controversy, the Crawfordsville KKK rally, and the conflict in Bosnia. A notable set of items includes correspondence with Senator Richard Lugar and a letter to President Bill Clinton regarding the conflict in Bosnia. Other items include several binders of committee meeting materials and unused broadsides with registration forms. Original order of materials has been maintained. 2. Audiovisual Media, 1989-2003 (2.25 cubic feet) This series documents lectures and discussions that occurred during the GLHRC. Items included are documentaries from various organizations about topics relevant to the GLHRC. It also contains one audio cassette tape from the United States Holocaust Memorial Council. Materials in the series are arranged chronologically. 3.
