On Wednesday the 5th of June the Diploma of Events students held a mini
event expo. The expo was set up in the cafeteria in H block, and consisted of five promotional stands which formed part of a marketing assessment for the unit Create a Promotional Display or Stand. Students worked in pairs with each group representing either an event company or service such as an Arabian theming company, candy bar company, children’s theming companies and a party venue. For each stand the groups produced marketing materials including brochures, signage, business cards and interactive elements to capture their target market’s attention. Ryde TAFE students enjoyed interacting with the promotional stands, and were intrigued by the many incentives on offer such as free samples, games and competitions.

The Grounds of Alexandria—7A/2 Huntley Street, Alexandria There are only a select few restaurants in the city that get it right: great ambience, reasonably
priced, excellent food, and great service; The Grounds of Alexandria is one such place. We’d
heard from several sources that it was almost impossible to get a table so we decided to beat
the crowd and get there really early; we were there by 8 in the morning. After all, who would
possibly be out for breakfast at 8 a.m. on a Sunday? Turns out, about 80 other people! The
Grounds boasts of a restaurant, an outdoor barbeque and café, a children’s play pen, a vegeta-
ble garden, a cart selling fresh organic fruits and lemonade, a hen house and two pet pigs
called ‘Kevin’ and ‘Bacon’. The ambience is inimitable, with pockets of beauty overlapping each
other; this place has something for everyone. We had to wait in line to be seated (again, on a
Sunday morning!). Once we got our table, the service was friendly, casual and very efficient.
Enough cannot be said about the food, we’d ordered their Breakfast Board consisting of in-
house baked sourdough bread with ham, poached eggs, fetta and pesto. We also ordered their
banana bread- which was served with ricotta, butter and house-made jam. The really impres-
sive aspect is that most of their products are made in-house with organic produce grown on,
erm, the grounds. Like most pastry chefs, I tend to analyse my desserts rather than enjoy the
first bite and like the rest of the meal their specialty doughnuts did not disappoint nor did their
banana bread! The food is priced a tad liberally, however, once you’ve had your meal you’d
think it was worth it. The coffee is highly recommended as well. Trust me when I say that I’d
definitely wait in line to have that meal again. As a matter of fact, I did! I’d recommend you visit
The Grounds at least once, if not for the food, then for their delicious rose lemonade.
