The Bread of Life Singers“Kickin’ Up Dust”

The Bread of Life Singers originated with lead singer, Tod Davis, when he was just nineteen years old. Over the years, God reshaped and reformed the group to include Tod and his wife Jennifer, along with their three children Christopher, Desiree, and Ryan. They are an evangelistic family minis-try, The Bread of Life Singers have one goal: to see souls saved and lives changed by the power of God.

They believe in the power of the Holy Spirit and in God’s power to heal, deliver, and transform the lives of any who would come to Him. Another part of the ministry of The Bread of Life Singers is their 24 hour prayer line. “No matter the time, when a call comes in, someone is there to pray with you. If, by chance, someone calls while we are on stage, they can leave a message and we will call them back and pray with them. They current-ly have three cd’s available. which are entitled “Walking The Simple Way,” “Heavens Way,” & “Your Hand In Mine.”

Memories of MamaBy: Jerry Lambert

Hello friends, Since during the month of May, we cel-ebrate mothers, I wanted to share a little back ground on my mother and the song I wrote about her. She was a woman of tremendous faith and a firm believer in God. I can still remember the night she went to the altar and accepted Jesus into her heart. She was raised on a farm near Ararat, Virginia and was no stranger to difficulty or hard work. She use to say, “the girls worked just like the boys, the farm didn’t know the difference.” Her difficult upbringing probably pre-pared her to raise three boys by herself after her divorce. My moth-er had little education but could have run a company, if she was presented the opportunity. She always did the most with the least of anybody I’ve ever seen. She never remarried and devoted her en-tire life to her three boys, Gene, Roger, and Jerry. She never wanted things, just her boys and she wanted them to know Jesus. She prayed aloud, and every night she would pray, “Lord save my boys!” Well, the Lord answered mama’s prayer and saved her boys. Mama would say, “Honey we never had anything here and if you miss heaven, you’ve missed it all.” But, we know now we won’t miss heaven and our family circle will be reunited again one day, thanks to God and a praying mother. The prayers of praying mothers have won wars, made great leaders, and healed sick babies. The prayers of a mother are the dearest prayers to the heart of God. It was only befitting that in 1914 President Calvin Coolidge established Mother’s Day. The night my mother was so ill, her physician told me to come back and I could see her in the morning but mama went to heaven during the night. But, that ole’ doctor was right. I will see mama in the morning just inside the eastern gate. What a day that will be! So for Gene, Roger, and Jerry, her children rise and call her blessed. Now, let her own works praise her!

Jerry’s song “Memories of Mama” is now airing nationally on

Southern gospel radio stations!

The Story Behind the Song: Butterfly On My Shoulder

By: John W. Jordan

This song had developed because of a true life experience for John Jordan. While residing in Texas, he gave the eulogy at his next door neighbor’s funeral. At the grave site he remarked that he was going to miss Mr. Moe and a butterfly came down and flew all in John’s face. Someone commented that it looked as though he might still be with you. On another occasion, my wife asked if we were going to church and as I said I did not think so a butterfly came down and lit on my shoulder. I looked at the butterfly and said that was my beloved mother saying I needed to go to church and to get ready. Everyone has lost someone or someone has gone on before and because of their faith in God they feel that someone is up there looking out for them. Yes, God does work mysteriously and yes maybe through a butterfly, a red bird, a gentle breeze on your face, or some other sign from above, a mothers love, and “Oh Yes”, the sweet memories of home.

“May God Bless You”

Bradley Miller is an honest-to-goodness Christian and Country-with-a-capital-C singer, which is obvious when he opens his mouth to sing. He has a rich South Carolina baritone and indeed he is a Union, S.C., native who moved frequently as a child because of his fathers job as a mill work-er. His childhood years were spent in Mississippi, Virginia and North Carolina. Music always came naturally to him, and he was singing in church at an early age. At 17, while living in Greenville, Miss., he took guitar lessons from a young Steve Azar, well before Azar became known for hits such as “I Dont Have To Be Me (Til Monday).”Bradley started singing in clubs at age 21, and de-veloped a good stage presence and was advised to move to Music City. In 1999, he did so, chasing his

dream there for two years before finances forced him to leave. “I never thought I would see Nash-ville again,” he says now. “I gave up on being a singer, but the Lord intervened.” On Dec. 2, 2003, Bradley Miller accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. The experience changed his lifestyle. It also revealed to him his divine call-ing which was to use his God-given skills as a sing-er, songwriter and communicator to reach other people. Nowadays, he chooses to do primarily positive songs, both secular and Christian. “I don’t want any drinking songs or divorce songs,” says Bradley. He was influenced by traditional country artists such as George Strait, Clint Black and Clay Walker. Of Bradley, AOK President, Adam Knight states, “He is sure to have critical and commercial success with longevity, a given.”

GOD, GIVE US HOLY MOTHERS!

2 Timothy 1:5 “When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.” Thank God for the right kind of mothers! I had a godly mother, and the mother of my children is the best woman I know. However, America is in DIRE need for men and woman who will train their daughters to be the right kind of mothers! The Bible tells us of bad mothers who led their children astray. Thank God for the examples in the scriptures of GOOD mothers! Let me mention a few characteristics of some of these holy women, and let’s ask God to help us raise up some girls who will become holy mothers! First, Lord, give us PROPER mothers, like Eve, women who become wives BEFORE they become mothers! Eve became Adam’s wife in Gen. 2:23-25, but he didn’t “know” her and have a child until Gen. 4:1! It is still true that: Hebrews 13:4 “Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.” Lord, give us PERCEPTIVE mothers, like the Shunammite woman (2 Ki. 4:8-10). She perceived that the man who passed by them each day was “an holy man of God.” The only way that can happen today is for some ladies to be saved, first, and to be close to the Lord on a daily basis, praying, reading the Bible, and active in a Bible-believing church! Lord, give us PERSISTENT mothers, like Ruth! She wasn’t yet a mother when she showed her persistent desire, as a widow, to not only honor her also widowed mother-in-law, but to be loyal to her mother-in-law’s GOD, who would be HER God. Her famous vow is recorded in Ruth 1:16-17. Lord, give us PURE mothers, like Sarah! 1 Pet. 3:5-6 num-bers her among “the holy women” of old time who trusted God, “being in subjection unto their own husbands.”

Lord, give us PROPHETIC mothers, like King Lemuel’s unnamed mother! She taught him about the future (Prov. 31:1). Oh, for a generation of godly women who were able to tell their children the future concerning heaven and hell, the Rapture, the tribulation, the millennial reign, and the creation of a new heaven and a new earth! Then, Lord, give us PRAYERFUL mothers, like Hannah! That woman knew how to get what she wanted, a son, from God. She also LOVED God enough to dedicate that son BACK to God! Lord, give us PROTECTIVE mothers, like Jochebed! In dan-ger of their own lives, she and her husband, Amram, hid their son, Moses, and prayerfully planned for his safety (Heb. 11:23). Many women today have children without much more of a display of character than an animal does for her litter. Lord, revive thy people! GIVE US GODLY MOTHERS! And let us all show dou-ble honor to those godly mothers whom we know!

A Ministry of Joy: Part 2By: Dustin Huffman

In our previous month we looked at the importance of joy in our life as a child of God. We learned how not only it is import-ant to our spiritual health, but also how it is paramount in our ministry to a lost and dying world. Often, when the world thinks of us as Christians they envision people with long, stern faces and dark sad clothing. They struggle to see the sunny joy and optimism that should exude from our lives as a people with direct access to the creator of the uni-verse through the blood of Jesus Christ. I often hear from folks that joy is the most elusive of all facets of their faith. They have no idea how to attain it, and know even less how to keep it. Their first struggle is knowing the difference between joy and happiness. Happiness is a feeling of delight based upon positive circumstances. People continually convince themselves that if they can make this much money, or they can buy this thing, or look a certain way, or get in this circle of friends that it will lead to lasting joy. The problem is that it may make them happy for a brief period, but undoubt-edly something will arise that will steal that happiness and they are left with the same void in their life they were trying to fill to begin with. The good news is that Christ said in John 15:11 that he desired that his joy would remain in us, so that our joy may be full! What a wonderful thing for us to remember is that his desire was for us to have full joy! Now that doesn’t mean that we will have everything we want. Quite the contrary, he promises us that we will have trials and troubles. But he promises that through the ministry of the Holy Spirit, the teaching of the Scriptures, and the hope of future glory that we can attain that joy! The book of Philippians is the defin-itive work on joy in the scriptures. Paul in his remarkable letter outlines to us where to

find our joy, and how to experience it daily. We will look at just a few verses in the first chapter that outline for us four things to remind ourselves each day in order to have a walk filled with joy. Beginning in verse 3, after giving his normal salutation in the first two verses he says: “I thank my God upon every remem-brance of you.” He tells us the first piece of this puzzle is the joy of remembrance. To better understand what Paul was remember-ing look back at Acts 16 and see his ministry in Philippi, how God moved in the life of Lydia, the demon possessed child and the Philippian jailer. However, the application for us is to remember how God has been faithful in our past through both his mighty hand working in our life, and through the works of others ministering to us. Often if we would take the time to remember when God appeared just in the nick of time, we would find joy in our present circumstances. In verse 4 he says, “Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy.” He tells us the next piece is the joy of inter-cessory prayer. There is something amazing about praying for someone else. The word prayer in this text in greek means interced-ing. Often when we pray we go through a laundry list of things that we want in our life that closer resembles a list to Santa Clause than a prayer to the creator. If we take time to put others first and pray for those closest to us, those who are the leaders in our life, and the weak among us before we ever pray for ourselves, he promises it will be with joy! Then in verse 5 he says, “For your fellow-ship in the gospel, from the first day until now.” This speaks to the joy of fellowship. The word for fellowship here is koinonia in the greek, and it speaks to intimate spiritual communion. Obviously we find solace in knowing that we aren’t alone be-cause The Lord is with us. However, there is joy in the fellowship of other believers. It’s important to know there are other like-minded people, facing the same trials and having the same struggles. We need to be a help one to another!

Finally in verse 6 he says “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.” The last piece then is the joy of coming glorification. Praise the Lord this isn’t our best life now. The best life is to come! The scriptures speak to the “day of The Lord” and also to the “day of Jesus Christ.” It’s important to understand that “the day of The Lord” always refers to a day of coming judgment. However, “the day of Jesus Christ,” is referring to the coming day when all our work shall be finished, and we shall finally and forever be glorified! The crux of all this is that we must show the world that we are different. They must see in us a joy that is infectious and shines with the image of God’s Son. To do that we must remember all that God has done for us. We must put others before our-selves in our prayer life. We must be close in our fellowship to other believers. Finally we must keep our eyes on the finish line and the day of our coming glory!

Can God See You?Angel Knight

While standing to sing in service a few weeks ago. This thought came to me as I looked back at my children. I could see my son who was sitting about two rows back from the front, and my 4 month old daughter who was being held by one of our friends about two rows behind Kyle. My three step daugh-ters were not with us, but I knew where they were and I knew they were safe. Had either of them cried out in any way I would have given my all to make sure they were well and comforted. I did not notice the other children in the church. I could not tell you if they were behaving properly or crying. This is not an act of unkindness. I cared for those other chil-dren. However, had I tried to call down someone else’s child for being unruly or

take them with me when I left the church I would have gotten slapped or arrested! This is how the Fa-ther God views His chil-dren. He knows where we are at every moment. He knows if we are distressed or in need. He knows if we are sitting were we are supposed to be and follow-ing what He has willed us to do. He loves those who do not belong to Him, but He will not chastise those who do not belong to Him. Neither will He take them to Heaven when this life is over.

Are you sitting where God can see you?

I have always been so impressed by the way that God counteracts any plan of the enemy. Of course, as a believer in God’s fore-knowledge and sovereignty, one accepts the tenet that His plan was ordained from before the time the enemy struck. One beautiful bal-ance of this is highlighted in the phrase “take and eat.” All mankind has been affected by the re-bellion of Adam & Eve in the Garden of Eden. Such a simple instruction was given. Adam had received the command that the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil was his one prohibition. After Satan’s temptation of Eve, Genesis chapter 3 tells us that “she took and she ate.” This instant changed everything. As Adam & Eve sinned, the sentence of death and judgment passed upon all. However, in that very chapter, in verse 15, we read that God prophe-sied of a way that He would set things right once again. The seed of the woman would crush the

head of the serpent. Theo-logians call this the “Proto-evangelium” or first telling of the Gospel. Fast-forward some 4,000 years, the foretold seed is preparing to be-come the vicarious sub-stitute, who would shed His blood to save all who would believe upon Him. The setting is the Upper Room. The occasion is the Last Supper of Christ. He lifts the bread and pro-claims it to be His body. He offers the cup and declares it His blood…..and in a declaration of repa-ration He commands His disciples to “take and eat.” The first occurrence of the phrase, “she took and she ate” made all men partakers of a depraved nature. The second occurrence makes those with faith in Christ partakers of the divine nature. Thank God, “take and eat” become verbs of salvation.

Take & Eat by Adam Knight, Editor

Finishing Well, a sermon outline by Adam Knight

Text II Timothy 4:6-8Introduction:

A lot can be learned about a man from his final words. D.L Moody is quoted as having said, ““Earth recedes, Heaven opens before me. This is my coronation day!”(Will Moody) Greg Laurie recounts the story of the death of the fa-mous atheist Voltaire. “The phy-sician, waiting up with Voltaire at his death, said that he cried out with utter desperation, “I am abandoned by God and man. I will give you half of what I am worth if you will give me six months of life. Then I shall go to hell and you will go with me, oh, Christ, oh, Jesus Christ!”” In this chapter we read of Paul’s farewell to his son in the faith, young Timothy. The Apostle reflects on:

1) A fight won: Verse 4 The Apostle Paul fought and overcame more hindrances than perhaps any Biblical char-actera. His past as a persecutorb. His problematic thorn in the fleshc. His physical scars of his own persecutiond. His prisoner status

2)A finished course: Verse 4a. His calling had been validated by the work of the Holy Spirtb. His conscience was clearc. His comfort was in the promise of God

3) A faith kept: Verse 4a. He had made known the Gospelb. He had mentored those who would follow after his passingc. He had magnified Jesus

4) A final journeya. There was confidence in his eternal hopeb. There was a Christ be fore which to appearc. There was a crown awaiting himd. There was a crowd who loved Jesus who would join him there

Conclusion: This final message to Timothy speaks of a victorious soldier, a persevered runner, a faithful believer and a comforted saint. I can only imagine that these words brought strength and comfort to Timothy. In later years, when thinking of his own physical demise, I can’t help but believe that he recalled this letter. Might we, today apply to our lives the principles which al-lowed Paul to press on through the struggles of life. Better still, may we reflect on what our self-written epitaph might be upon our deathbed. Can we say we FINISHED WELL!
