Lifeline Screening
Wed, July 24, 2013 The Michigan City Senior Center is pleased to offer a preventive health event. Life Line Screening, a leading provider of community-based preventive health screenings, will host their affordable, non-invasive and painless health screenings on Wed, July 24. Five screenings will be offered that scan for potential health problems related to: blocked
arteries which is a leading cause of stroke; abdomi-nal aortic aneurysms which can lead to a ruptured aorta; hardening of the arteries in the legs which is a strong predictor of heart disease; atrial fibrillation or irregular heart beat which is closely tied to stroke
risk; and a bone density screening, for men and women, used to assess the risk of osteoporosis.
Register for a Wellness Package which includes 4 vascular tests and osteoporosis screening from $159 ($149 with our member discount). All five
screenings take 60-90 minutes to complete. In or-der to register for this event and to receive
a $10 discount off any package priced above $129, please call 1-888-653-6441 or

“Silver Linings” Sponsored by Life Care Center of MC
Life doesn't always go according to plan... Pat Solitano has lost everything - his house, his job, and his wife. He now finds him-self living back with his mother and father after spending eight
months in a state institution on a plea bargain. Pat is deter-mined to rebuild his life, remain positive and reunite with his
wife, despite the challenging circumstances of their separation. All Pat's parents want is for him to get back on his feet - and to
share their family's obsession with the Philadelphia Eagles football team. When Pat meets Tiffany, a mysterious girl with problems of her own, things get complicated. Tiffany offers to help Pat reconnect with his wife, but only if he'll do something very important for her in return. As their deal plays out, an un-expected bond begins to form between them, and silver linings
appear in both of their lives.

VOLUNTEERS HELP!!!
We are continuously in need of vol-
unteers and many people tell us
that they’d be happy to volunteer if
we’d just ask. Well, with dozens of
events per year, and over 1,500
members, that’s not so easy to do.
So, we decided to start a list of
those who are interested in volun-
teering but would like to be called.
If you’d like to be on that list, please
fill out this form and turn it in to the
front desk. Thanks!

Wed, Aug 14th: Chicago Cubs vs Cincinnati, Wrigley Field, Chicago, IL In-
cludes transp and game ticket. Lunch is on own at ballpark. Departs LP 9am, MC
at 9:30am. Reserv/pymt by July 14. $57/pp
Wed, Aug 21st: “Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5” at Marriott Theatre, Lincolnshire, IL This
hilarious new musical from Grammy Award-winner Dolly Parton features the hit title song
and Tony Award-nominated score. 9 to 5 is the hilarious story of friendship and revenge
in the rolodex era. When three unlikely friends take control of the office and put their
“sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot” of a boss in his place, they learn there is
nothing they can’t do, even in a mans world. Includes transp, lunch of Roast Sirloin of
Beef or Grilled Salmon, lunch gratuity and show. Departs LP 8am, MC 8:30am. Reserv/
pymt by July 1. $89/pp
Wed, Sept 18th: “Next To Normal” Drury Lane Theatre, Oakbrook Terrace,
IL. One of only 8 musicals in history to win the Pulitzer Prize for drama, this riv-
eting story is an intricate dissection of a ‘normal’ American family. Driven by an
incredible Tony Award winning score, the narrative burrows into family secrets
long since buried. This is a musical that asks the question: Can the seemingly per-
fect family survive an insurmountable event and tender the untenable. A story
whose mere description would destroy it. See it before anyone reveals its secrets.
Includes transp, lunch of Roast Sirloin or Tilapia, and show. Departs LP 9am, MC
9:30am. Reserv/pymt by Aug 18. $78/pp
Thurs, Oct 31st: “Arsenic & Old Lace” at Amish Acres, Nappanee, IN The
famous comedy written by Joseph Kesselring became best known for the film ad-
aptation starring Cary Grant and directed by Frank Capra. This classic farce fol-
lows two charming and innocent elderly women who populate their cellar with re-
mains of socially and religiously “acceptable” roomers; the antics of their brother
who thinks he is Teddy Roosevelt; and the activities of the other brother. Includes
transp, lunch at the famous Threshers Dinner served family style, and show. De-
parts MC 9am, LP 9:30am. Reserv/pymt by Sept 30.
Wed, Nov 13th: “Two Guys and a Christmas Tree” at Cornwell’s Dinner
Theatre, Marshall, MI Grandpa’s rule has always been every tree has a story and
every customer must get a tree. Hank and Jim are brothers who are third genera-
tion Christmas tree dealers. The brothers sell trees and spread Christmas cheer to
all who buy from them. Hank has a huge heart and at times has been known to
give away to those who can’t afford them. Jim on the other hand tries to be the
tough one but the Christmas spirit moves even this grumpy guy. The humor, the
warm family spirit and all of the wonderful Christmas songs will make this a sure
hit. Includes transp, complete turkey dinner and show. Departs LP 8am, MC
8:30am. Reserv/pymt by Oct 13. $79/pp

Answer…. By setting the snooze time to 9 minutes, the alarm clock only needs to watch the last digit of the time. So if you hit
snooze at 6:45, the alarm goes off again when the last digit equals 4. They couldn’t make it 10 minutes otherwise the alarm would go off right away, or it would take more circuitry.

Anyway, I thought this was insightful:
Try to imagine a life without timekeeping. You proba-
bly can't. You know the month, the year, the day of the
week. There is a clock on your wall or the dashboard of
your car. You have a schedule, a calendar, a time for
dinner or a movie. Yet all around you, timekeeping is
ignored. Birds are not late. A dog does not check its
watch. Deer do not fret over passing birthdays. Man
alone measures time. Man alone chimes the hour. And,
because of this, man alone suffers a paralyzing fear that
no other creature endures…..A fear of time running
out.” Unknown Author
And then on the Science Channel they had a program
on the “Arrow of Time” or entropy. Which in a nut-
shell means that time is a one-way direction. In other
words, although there are no laws of physics that pre-
vents a sequence of events to be played out in reverse,
because of entropy, they are played out only moving
forward. For example, you would not put the eggs in
the refrigerator, then fry one on the stove, then crack the
egg, then remove them from the refrigerator. You
would remove them from the refrigerator, crack the egg,
fry them, then place the carton back in the fridge. It is
because of this concept (entropy or arrow of time) that
it is so. Time moves in only one direction….forward.
And so too must we. While I appreciate the message in
the paragraph above about a fear of time running out, I
think in many ways it’s good that we are cognizant of
this fact. It forces us to appreciate each day, each event,
each moment in time. If we tossed out our clocks and
set no schedules whatsoever, it would be nearly impos-
sible to do all the things we’d like to do in a lifetime.
So while I don’t enjoy the reality that my time here on
earth is limited, I DO enjoy the fact that I am in control
of what I get to experience while I’m here. And I con-
tinue to try to squeeze the most out of every day. Time
to run, I’ve got a schedule to keep. :) …..Happy 4th of
July…...Tara Miller
