“The law program at the Faculty of Law was superbly organised. The electives are varied, and relevant and the core subjects are comprehensively covered by some of the leading experts in their respective fields.

During my time at UTAS, I was part of the Phillip C. Jessup mooting team and competed against other Australian universities in Canberra. I also competed in the Lexis-Nexis Constitutional Law competition and the ALSA negotiations competition.

In my last year of study I was one of the editors of the University of Tasmania Law Review as well as a tutor for the International Student Support Program. During this year, I did an internship at the New South Wales Aboriginal Land Council under the Aurora Native Title Internship Program.”

“If I had another shot at doing my degree again, I

would certainly do it at the University of Tasmania.”

“Amending the terms of leases for big property settlements was not quite where I envisaged my life heading, so I worked as a lawyer with the Human Rights and Civil Law Division of Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) for 5½ years.

I am now due to take up an offer of a Master of Public Affairs degree at the acclaimed Institut d’etudes politiques in Paris, with special regard to migration issues.

After that, I hope to work for a time at the International Centre for Migration Policy Development or the OECD in Paris. My longer term aspiration is to become a key policy advisor to the Australian Government in this highly sensitive and complex area of public policy making.”

Grad Profile – Anita George (grad. 2000 BA-LLB (Hons))

“While my degrees in law and psychology have been

invaluable, I have, by no means, followed a traditional career

trajectory from law student to partner in a major law firm.”
