TERMS AND CONDITIONS When registering your child(ren) for lessons you are enrolling them for the enre year, you do not need to re-enroll each term. It is possible to have one trial lesson upon request (which will be billed). Students may opt out at the end of a term by nofying the Director of the Music Academy at least one week before the end of the current term. At least 24 hour advance noce must be given either to the teacher, the Director of the Music Academy or Recepon to cancel a lesson for any reason or the lesson will be billed. Lessons missed because of an official school acvity will either be made up or not charged. Music books are not included in the price of the lessons. JOHN LANEGUITAR (ACOUSTIC, CLASSICAL, ELECTRIC AND BASS), SING & STRUM, THEORY

John received his Bachelor of Music – Diploma for Classical and Jazz guitar, Faculty of Music, from Ball State University, Indiana and his Diplôme d’études supérieures musicales from the Lausanne Conservatory which trained him to teach in an academic environment as a specialist in music: Music theory, classical piano and piano accompaniment, voice, choral conducting, percussion and rhythmic. He has worked as a guitar teacher at the Centre d’Ensei-gnement Musical in Lausanne, the International School of Lausanne, and the International School of Geneva. As a music teacher he has taught classes at the Collège secondaire Isabelle-de-Montolieu,

and the Ecole Nouvelle de la Suisse Romande, Lausanne. He was the Assistant Director for mixed choir, L’Aurore de Féchy, Morges. He is active in the

ASBRM exam program. As a performer, John has performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival

with « Little Dreams» co-founded by Phil Collins and he has also accompa-nied Julian Lennon, Carl Perkins and Bill Haley’s Comets there. He was Musical Director for the Village Play-ers production « The Beatles... From

Me to You », Lausanne in 2003. He regularly performs with jazz, rock and

country groups both in Europe and the USA and he has accompanied jazz musicians,

Dizzy Gillespie, John Faddis, James Moody, Ernie Watts, Joanne Brackeen, The Phil Woods Quintet and Robin Kanyatta. He has given solo, duo and trio classical guitar concerts and has been the guitarist for productions of Grease and Evita.

JULIE TOMPKINS-WAGNER DIRECTOR OF THE MUSIC ACADEMY, PIANO, ENSEMBLES, THEORY, AURAL TRAINING

Julie is a concert pianist, music teacher and administrator who received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and English from the University of California, Berkeley and her Master of Music in Piano from the San Francisco Conserva-tory of Music, in the class of Mack McCray. She has done études de perfectionnement in piano with Henri Gautier at the Geneva Conservatory and in cham-ber music, vocal coaching and conducting. Julie has performed throughout Europe, including London at St. Martin-in the-Fields, Paris (to stand-ing ovations), Vienna and Geneva, as well as the

United States, participating in numerous interna-tional competitions, performing as a soloist with orchestras, giving solo and duo recitals, and radio broadcasts. She also has 12 recordings under the pianoforte productions label.

As a qualified IGCSE examiner, IB tutor and an active teacher in the Associated Boards

of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) examination program, Julie’s students receive high marks in exams.She founded the Music School at the La Châtaigneraie campus of the Interna-

tional School of Geneva, which she man-aged for many years before becoming the

Director of the Music Academy for GEMS World Academy Switzerland.

Julie also started up the Summer Music Program, a summer camp for students aged 4– 16, in 1995. She is the Artistic Director of the Geneva Youth Ensemble.

AHMED HAMDYVIOLIN, VIOLA, ENSEMBLE CONDUCTOR, COMPOSITION, ARRANGING

Ahmed began his studies in violin and piano at the Conservatory of Music in Cairo and subsequently attended the American Univer-sity in Cairo. After further stud-ies in Mannheim in violin and chamber music, he completed his studies at the Geneva Con-servatory in violin, composition, orchestration and conducting ob-taining his diploma in violin at the pro-fessional level, and his certificate of higher studies in orchestration. He is currently a member of the Chamber

Orchestra of Geneva and regularly performs in smaller chamber ensemble groups, including his Tango ensemble. As the conductor of the Ensemble vocal et orchestral de Rolle, he has

given many concerts in the Lake Geneva Region. He is currently the artistic director

of the Da Capo ensemble in Nyon and the Praeclassica orchestra in Geneva. He has also conducted opera at the Tannay summer festival and directed the Geneva Youth Ensemble.

Ahmed has taught at the Geneva Con-servatory, the International School of

Geneva, and the Institut de Rosey. He cur-rently teaches at the Institut de Florimont, the

Geneva English School and the Summer Music Program. His students routinely receive high marks in the ABRSM exams.

R. HUNJU SOHNNPIANO

HunJu received her Bachelor of Arts and her Doctor of Musical Arts from Rice University and her Master of Music from the New England Con-servatory of Music. She has studied with some of the foremost pianists of our time including Russell Sherman, Gary Graffman, Richard Goode, Oxana Yabonskaya and John Perry.HunJu has taught at Rice University, the New England Conservatory of Music, and the Institut Jaques Dalcroze and currently teaches at the Conserva-toire Populaire in Geneva as well as maintaining her private studio in Genthod. She is active in preparing

her students for examinations both at the Conservatoire and through the ABRSM

program. She has won several piano competitions, has performed solo, with orchestra and in chamber mu-sic groups in Europe and the United States. She is currently a member of

a trio with Simone Flukiger, violin and Arthur Guignard, cello. She is a regular

accompanist at the Verbier Music festival. She has recorded with the Bournemouth Sym-

phony Orchestra, toured with the City of London Sinfonia, appeared live on radio France Musique with Nobuko Imai, and has several other record-ings and TV appearances to her name including the complete works of Poulenc for Woodwind and piano, under KLEOS Classics.

LAURA CANTAGALLIVOICE, PIANO, THEORY

With degrees in liturgical music, organ and composition from the Venice Conservatory, and certificates of higher studies and perfectionne-ment from the Geneva Conserva-tory as well as studies at the Institut Jacques Dalcroze for younger children, Laura has taught students of all levels from pre-school through the IB level in Venice, Geneva (Int’l. School of Geneva, Collège du Leman), St. Imier and Neuchatel. She has held positions of

organist and choir director in prestigious churches and her administrative skills

have led her to positions at Collège du Leman and as Interim Director of the Neuchatel Conservatory. Laura rou-tinely prepares students for examina-tions including the ABRSM.

She has worked preparing opera singers on Italian diction in Geneva,

Lausanne and Neuchatel and is a founding Director of the Vocal Ensemble Gallicantus.

She is an accomplished concert performer and conductor, having directed numerous choirs and instrumental ensembles.

KIRBY BIVANSDRUMS, SING & STRUM, RECORDING ENGINEER

Kirby is a drummer, singer, com-poser and music arranger who studied music at Columbia Col-lege, and then at Roosevelt Mu-sical College, Roosevelt University in Chicago. His studies included music theory, composition, orchestration, studio production and engineering. He has worked with some of the top names in the business in concert and in recording studios in Chicago and

Nashville USA, Canada and Europe. He has also conducted music clinics in

Paris and the USA.Since 1992 Kirby has led a suc-cessful country and sixties group in the Geneva area called J. Kirby’s Band, with whom he

has recorded four original albums. He has his own recording studio.

Kirby has been on the staff at the Inter-national School of Geneva as a drum, sing

and strum, and music teacher since 1997; at the Collège du Leman since 2000; and the Summer Music Program since 2001.

PAULA DEDERICHSFLUTE, SAXOPHONE, CLARINET, TRUMPET AND BARITONE HORN

Paula received her Associative Boards in the Royal Schools of Music Diploma in Flute Perfor-mance in 2004, and her Attéstation de Fin des Études from the Consérv-atoire de l’Ouest Vaudois after studying with Elisabeth Perrenoud in 2013. She began teaching in 1996, and has taught at several of

the International Schools in Geneva and the surrounding area, includ-

ing the Geneva English School, La Côte International School, and the Institut Le Rosey in Rolle. Both her private students and the

students she teaches at school who choose to take the ABRSM ex-

aminations have a 100% pass rate. Paula has also played with a Jazz group

since 1996 which performs at, amongst other events, the Fêtes de la Musique.

KJ (JAY) NAKAIGUITAR

Jay received his advanced mu-sical training in the USA earning a D.M.A. from the University of Arizona and a Master of Music in Theory & Composition from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He has been a teaching assistant at

the University of Arizona, Tucson, and since coming to Switzerland, has

taught Japanese and English as well as guitar at the BeauSoleil Collège in Villars and Japa-nese and English at the Wessex

Academy, Lausanne, the Ecole Club Migros in Vevey/Lausanne and

L’Academie international de droit et d’économie in Montreux.

HILDE SKOMEDALCELLO

Hilde received her training in Norway and Switzerland. She holds an M.A. in cello (interpre-tation) from the Lausanne Con-servatory of Music and received her M.A. specializing in Baroque cello from the Haute Ecole de Musique

in Geneva. She has performed as a soloist with numerous orchestras

and is currently a member of both the Lyra chamber ensemble and the Lausanne SInfonietta. She enjoys collaborating in multi-

disciplinary projects and has made several recordings to date. She

has been teaching since 2012 in the Lausanne/Geneva region.
