Why Did He Invent It?

• Needed a recreational sport that could be played indoors due to the weather in Massachusetts

• Wanted a sport that would develop skills• Did not want another sport the depended

exclusively on strength

The Rules of the Game

• The game is played with 5 players on the court for each team

• The object is to put the basketball in your own basket

• To advance the ball down the court, you must dribble if you are going to walk/run with the ball or pass the ball to a teammate

• The game is usually played with 4 quarters varying in length, except in college basketball the game is played in two halves.
