President’s Message Welcome 2018! We are looking for-

ward to a successful year, but 2017

will be tough to top for the Friends.

Looking back over the year, we had

four successful book sales and a very

successful Puttin’ on the Glitz jew-

elry sale in September, led by Margaret Forster and her

hard-working committee. If you missed this wonderful

event, you may have noticed the

sparkling jewelry that was sold

throughout the holiday season in

the bookstore. The Glitz earned a

total of more than $6,500.

Thanks to all of you who do-

nated your glitz.

I hope everyone has noticed our

“free book” carts in the lobby.

We receive more donations than

we can store and sell, so some

books are donated back to the

community. We have received

many positive comments about our free carts. Although

the books are free, we accept and are grateful to those

who make monetary contributions.

We will be thanking our many volunteers with a special

appreciation luncheon in March, planned by our Hospi-

tality Chair Carole Risler and her committee.

Please consider volunteering if you have some time to

spare. We realize everyone is busy, but you can volun-

teer for even just a few hours of a book sale. You can

email us at [email protected] if you have questions

about volunteering, or check with a bookstore volunteer

to leave your name.

Hope to see everyone at the bookstore and the January

book sale! Carole Babes

Shahrzad Dance

Academy:

Persian New Year

Celebration Tuesday, March 13, 4 pm

Children’s Reading Room

Welcome spring as we celebrate the Persian New

Year, Nowruz, with an engaging dance program pre-

sented by the renouned Shahrzad Dance Academy.

This elegant visual showcase features solo, duet, and

trio dances in styles that have been part of the Per-

sian culture for millennia.

Sponsored by the Danville Library foundation.

We are so grateful for your continuing support throughout the past year and have every hope that

2018 will bring us near to reaching our goal of $1 million. As of January 9, the Friends of the Dan-

ville Library Endowment Fund totaled $932,196. With your assistance and generosity, we hope to hit

our target, and in doing so, be able to meet additional Library and community needs. In this last quar-

ter we have received gifts from $25 to $2,000. No gift is too small or too large. We welcome all of

them.

During this funding cycle, the Endowment contributed $1,000 to complete

the renovation of an under-utilized area

of the library that is now a vibrant and

bright new space for teens to study and

work collaboratively. Initiated by a

contribution from the county and

matching project funds from the Town

of Danville with additional support

from the Friends of the Danville Li-

brary, the Danville Library's Teen Ad-

visory Board provided direct feedback

and input to re-envision a current area in the library and carve out

a space within the existing building.

Other areas of our Danville Library that have benefited in 2017

from Endowment grants are:
