What is a sentence?

•A sentence is a group of words that makes sense.

•A sentence expresses a complete thought.•A sentence begins with a capital letter and ends with a symbol.

•A sentence has at least one verb an action word.

Example:

Sam went to the store.

Declarative Sentence.

Examples:

A declarative sentence makes a statement. It ends with a period (.).

The boy is happy. The people are running.

Interrogative Sentence.

Examples:

An interrogative sentence asks a question. It ends with a question mark(?) .

Who is your teacher? Have you ever seen a flying fish?

Imperative Sentence.

An imperative sentence gives an order. It ends with a period OR an exclamation point.

Exclamatory Sentence

Examples:

An exclamatory sentence expresses strong feelings. It ends with an

exclamation point.

Hooray!Wow! That’s great news!

4. Exclamatory- (!) shows strong feeling or emotions.
