“And I, when I came to you, brothers, did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom. For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified...”

“...And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling, and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.”

The Corinthian Christians were trying to build their faith on the foundation of human wisdom and power and it was crumbling beneath their feet.

It’s so easy to build our faith in the power and wisdom of our surroundings.

This is one of our greatest hurdles to living a life of faith in God.

Page 9: The Foundation of Our Faith 1 Corinthians 2:1-5

Faith built upon the power of us or someone or something other than

Christ simply falls flat. Faith built upon the power of God will hold us up firmly

until the day when the Lord returns.

“many Corinthians hearing Paul believed and were baptized.”

Acts 18:8

“For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,”

1 Corinthians 15:3-4

“the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”

1 Corinthians 1:18

The same power that Paul lived his faith by, is the same power that rose

Christ, and the same power that is the foundation of our faith.

It’s the power of God who is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Our faith can be unwavering because it is not built upon witty one-liners, or

complicated proofs, but on the foundation of the spirit and power of God, of the risen and soon-to-come

Lord, Jesus.

We are free to proclaim and profess the gospel of Jesus, knowing that

hearts will respond not to our strength or wisdom but to the power of Christ

at work within us.

Because, God’s power is the foundation of our faith.
