The turnout was fantastic with youth from our neighboring congregations attending and many parents sticking around to hear and enjoy God’s word as well. Growing up, my favorite part of waking up early on a Saturday morning and going to a youth day was always the singing. Young people know how to belt it out. This year was no different. Colossians 3:16 tells us “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” What our young people taught me this year was not to be afraid of singing out, but rather to sing with passion. Our speakers were phenomenal. Joshua Manning taught "The Speech of a Clean Heart" and how a Christian is to use his tongue. Mark Reynolds spoke of The Joy of My Salvation and how young people need to forgive themselves. Brad McNutt preached "Then Will I Teach Others" and encouraged us to take this purity to others and spread the Gospel. A special thank you to everyone that helped. First, to the youth, you were early, joyful, and a shining light to everyone that came to our doors and that is commendable. Next, to the parents; thank you for serving and being a part of your children’s lives and showing the importance of spiritual things. Lastly to the elders who oversaw this day and made it all possible. Thank you.

Create In Me A Clean Heart Evan Manning

This year at the Forest Hill Youth Day our theme was “Create in Me a Clean Heart” to go along with the MSOP Lectureship’s theme of “Purer in Heart, O God.” What an uplifting day this was!

Thank you.

God is referred to as “Creator” in several places in Scripture. This language obviously points to His work in creating the world from nothing (cf. Hebrews 11:3). Even so the term also conveys God’s superiority over His creation. Near the end of Ecclesiastes, Solomon referred to God this way and urged his audience to “remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, before the difficult days come, and the years draw near when you say, ‘I have no pleasure in them’” (12:1 NKJV). The prophet Isaiah likewise described God with the designation and wrote, “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is w e a r y . H i s u n d e r s t a n d i n g i s unsearchable” (40:28). Both of these passages use the term “Creator” to exalt God. In Ecclesiastes, He is the One upon whom men and women should fix their attention; in Isaiah, He is the One upon whom men and women must depend. Because He is Creator, He is necessarily greater than His creation. Despite they truth, individuals do not always revere or glorify God. This is not because God left man without evidence of His existence. As the psalmist noted, “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork” (Psalm 19:1). And as Paul elsewhere said of God, “He did not leave Himself without witness, in that He did good, gave us rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness” (Acts 14:17). The creation clearly points to the existence of a powerful, intelligent, and orderly God. Humanity’s failure to hold God in proper reverence or exalt God as Creator results because individuals ignore the available evidence. According to Paul, those who act in this manner “suppress the

truth in unrighteousness” (Romans 1:18) and attempt to transform “the glory of the incorruptible man” (v. 23). When God is placed on the same level as man, divine commands are treated as suggestions, selfish pride replaces gratitude, and individuals begin to exalt “the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever” (v. 25). In other words, God is removed from His proper position of authority and is replaced by men and women, who then do whatever they please. Importantly, Scripture’s use of the term “Creator” to describe God is not intended to paint Him as distant or unconcerned. Quite the contrary is actually true. God is greater than man, but He is not without compassion. Because He is the Creator, He is aware of our needs. God understands our weaknesses and cares for us (1 Peter 5:7). Noting this, Peter encouraged “those who suffer according to the will of God [to] commit their souls to Him in doing good, as to a faithful Creator” (4:19). Rather than removing God from our minds or exalting ourselves above Him, we are to obey Him and yield to His will. We do this not only because He is superior but also because He is the “faithful Creator.” Perhaps the psalmist said it best when he wrote, “Know that the LORD, He is God; it is He who has made us, and not we ourselves” (Psalm 100:3). Let us make every effort to honor and glorify God as Creator through both our words and actions. GA
