That was the road to victory that Artemio Murakami, a Filipino player of Japanese descent had to walk over in Mercedes-Benz Masters Philippines , last April 14-17,2010 at Manila Saouthwoods Golf and Country Club. The 26-years-old was far beyond the leaderboard competing zone in the first round and at the margin of 11 strokes from Jay Bayron who led till the second round.

Pembaca Yang Terkasih,

Ketika sebuah rencana besar tercetus menjadi sebuah niatan tertentu, maka sejak itu pula WAKTU seakan terus mendesak untuk menguji kesungguhan komitmen dalam peng-aktualisian-nya.

Bukan hal yang mudah untuk berpacu dengan WAKTU, sehingga tak ubah nya hal tersebut bagaikan mengejar bayangan sendiri, apabila mengacu kepada betapa cepatnya segala sesuatu berlalu dari hadapan kita.

Begitupun ketika RP Invitational 2010 tanpa terasa telah berlalu dari hadapan kami sebagai penyelenggara, maka tantangan lain pun dengan cepat datang menghampiri untuk segera disikapi.

Namun yang saya khawatirkan seiring cepatnya perjalanan waktu adalah bagaimana kepekaan para unsur pendukung golf profesional kita menangkap maksud dari komitmen saya bersama tim Kariza untuk memberikan kesempatan kemajuan yang berkesinambungan kepada para touring pro Indonesia melalui penyelenggaraan Kariza Indonesia Championship pada

bulan Mei serta Kariza Classic pada bulan Juli mendatang. Karena tanpa dukungan kepekaan dalam menilai visi dan misi penyelenggaraan dua turnamen internasional tersebut, maka semuanya akan berlalu dengan hambar.

Waktu tentunya akan menghakimi kita semua, ketika kita terlambat untuk mencerna segala apa yang telah dilakukan demi kemajuan kita bersama. Karena bukan sekedar ingin menciptakan gemerlap dan kemeriahan event saja yang membuat saya bersama tim Kariza dengan penuh semangat mempersiapkan dua seri turnamen internasional ke depan, namun lebih kepada harapan untuk melihat bagaimana para touring pro Indonesia mampu melangkah lebih jauh ke depan sebagai para pegolf profesional yang disegani di luar sana...dan hal itu harus dimulai dari sekarang.

Kita tak boleh hanya terus menerus tergiur atau sekedar berdecak kagum melihat ekspansi para pegolf profesional muda negara-negara tetangga di ajang-ajang internasional yang dari tahun ke tahun semakin bertambah saja jumlahnya. Namun lebih dari itu adalah bagaimana kita semua menyadari bahwa para pembina olah raga golf di negara tetangga tersebut berhasil memanfaatkan waktu untuk memberikan kesempatan para tunas-tunas mudanya bersaing di luar negara nya secara berkesinambungan, seperti Thailand contohnya.

As time goes by, I am still with my thought concerning the sensitivity of the professional golf supporting elements in comprehending the purpose of Kariza teams and my commitment to give an enhancing continuous opportunity to Indonesian touring pros through the organizing of Kariza Indonesia Championship (Asean PGA) in May and Kariza Classic (Asian Development Tour) in July. As without a responsive support in valuing the vision and mission of those two international tournaments, all will go away meaningless .

Time will surely judge all of us when we are too late to understand everything that is being done for all our progress together. Its not just an ego to create a blissfully and celebrated event that makes my Kariza team and I prepare those two international events in full spirit . Its more to have a hope to see how the Indonesian touring pros can step further ahead as the respectable professional golfers out there And that should be started right now.

We cannot just keep on being enchanted or amazed to look at the expansion of the neighbour country boys in the international fields that are getting larger year after year. We have to start realizing that the golf development over there have succeeded in taking advantage of the time

Namun mari sejenak kita lupakan tentang para jago-jago muda tersebut untuk lebih memikirkan bagaimana caranya mendukung dan menyokong para pemain andalan kita untuk dapat turun bermain dalam Tour Championship Mercedes-Benz Tour di Emeralda Golf Club di akhir musim nanti, dimana hanya para touring pro di zona rangking 60 besar saja yang berhak tercatat sebagai peserta. Artinya jika hal tersebut terlambat untuk dipikirkan, maka niscaya Indonesia hanya akan sekedar menjadi tuan rumah yang baik saja, tanpa seorang pun pemain kita yang turun bertanding jika tidak satu pun dari mereka yang berhasil mencapai kriteria rangking dan syarat jumlah ke ikut sertaan yang telah ditentukan...sungguh ironis jika hal itu harus terjadi.

Hal itu yang menjadi dasar pemikiran saya untuk membawa 5 pegolf kita dalam seri pembukaan Mercedes-Benz Tour dengan sanction Asean PGA di Manila Southwood Golf & Country Club, Filipina, untuk menyertakan nama Indonesia dalam tingkat persaingan golf se Asia Tenggara tersebut.

Sarmilih KZ, Hardjito, Burhan Bora, Ramadhan Alwie dan Sandro Bernad, mungkin belum dapat dikatakan dapat memperlihatkan permainan terbaiknya di sana, namun saya berharap bahwa paling tidak mereka dapat menunjukkan perjuangan maksimal sebagai duta-duta golf profesional Indonesia dalam seri-seri internasional

di region Asia, melalui kesempatan yang mereka terima. Karena pemikiran tanpa perjuangan dan usaha serta kerja keras tidak akan menjadi sebuah hasil yang nyata.

Tanpa terasa pula perhelatan The Masters 2010 telah lewat dari pengamatan kita dan seluruh masyarakat golf dunia ketika Phil Lefty Mickelson berhasil meraih green jacket-nya yang ke tiga di Augusta National secara gemilang. Setuju atau tidak, menurut pengamatan saya Lefty berhasil memanfaatkan kesempatan nya dengan baik untuk meraih kejayaan, sementara semua pengamat terfokus kepada sepak terjang Tiger Woods yang masih bergelut dengan recovery nama baik nya.

Berjuang untuk memanfaatkan kesempatan yang ada di depan mata merupakan hal yang mutlak untuk dijalani oleh mereka yang beruntung telah memilikinya...karena kesempatan itu biasanya hanya lewat sekali dan sekejap dalam hidup.

Bagi seluruh profesional golfer yang akan berlaga di gading dan para profesional golf Indonesia yang saya banggakan, selamat berjuang dalam Kariza Indonesia Championship, 5-8 Mei 2010.

But what is important now is how to preserve and support our reliable players to take part in Mercedes-Benz Tour at Emeralda Golf Club in the final season where only the touring pros in the top 60 ranking zone have the right to be registered as the participants. That means if its too late to think about it , then Indonesia will simply be a good host venue, with no players from our country are taking part in the competition , if none of them are succeeded to reach the ranking criteria and requirement for a fixed total participation that will be an irony.

That has been my consideration to take our 5 golfers to the inaugural Mercedes-Benz Tour series , sanctioned by ASEAN PGA in Manila Southwood Golf & Country Club, Philippines, to include Indonesian name into the South East Asian golf competition.

Sarmilih KZ, Hardjito, Burhan Bora, Ramadhan Alwie and Sandro Bernad, may not be noted as the best in the field, but I hope that at least they can show their utmost fight as Indonesian professional golf ambassadors in an international series in Asian region through the opportunity that they took. Because a motivation

without a fight, effort and hard work will not be a real outcome. Most of all, let this be a valuable experience for them, to face another challenges coming in front of them.

And the celebration of The Masters 2010 has slipped away from our attention and the world golf communitys when Phil Lefty Mickelson triumphantly put on his third-time green jacket at Augusta National. Agree or not, from my observation, Lefty has successfully took his opportunity well to reach victory while other spectators were focusing on Tiger Woods behavior who is still struggling to recover his name.

Fighting to work on the opportunity that lays ahead is an absolute thing to do by them who are lucky enough to have itas the opportunity usually only comes once in a life time.

To all the professional golfers who will compete at Gading Raya and all the Indonesian professional golfers whom I am proud of , good luck in Kariza Indonesia Championship, 5th - 8th May 2010.

One of spiders traits to get out of trouble is its spider-sense. And Camilo Villegas a.k.a. Spider-Man has that ability to make use all within his powers to overcome

problems he might encounter.

This time the real dangers came from the PGA National 3-hole strecth. The Par-3 Hole 15, Par-4 Hole 16 and Par-3 Hole 17, called the Bear Trap, a name taken to signify its designer, the legendary Jack Nicklaus a.k.a. the Golden Bear. In 2001, Nicklaus who replanned the Palm Beach Gardens, Floridas Champion Course, originally designed by George & Tom Fazio in 1981 created each hole with demanding tee shots to very limited landing zones.

Here are the descriptions of the holes.

Hole 15, 179 yards, Par-3. The back of the green was raised after 1990 for visibility. Usually plays into the wind and a fade aimed at the bunkers on the left will likely avoid the water on the right. The tough pin is back right. Averaging 3.250 is the most difficult hole for the top-25 during the whole 4 rounds of the tournament.

The fifth most difficult Par-4, 434-Yard Hole 16, dogleg to the right is the toughest par 4 of all of PGA Nationals 90 holes. Off the tee, everything slopes toward the water on the right, but a bunker was added to catch balls that roll too far right. Those who bail out left are faced with a 220-yard second shot over water, into the wind. The Top-25 scored an average of 4.130 in four rounds.

While the second hardest hole of the Champion Course, the Par-3, 190-yard Hole 17 offers eight sets of tees for recreational play. With the wind in your face or when its blowing left to right toward the water to the right -- and a bunker long and left -- the only place to put your tee ball is on the green. With just a 30-foot landing area there, the toughest pin is middle left.

And to win The Honda Classic you probably need to score even for the whole tournament on these three holes, the way Villegas was able to accumulate. He had two bogeys at hole 15 and two birdies, one each at 15th and 16th, while parred the 17th. The only other player accruing the same scores of even par on the Bear Trap was Arnold Palmers grandson, Sam Saunders who ended up tied for 17th place. While the best scorer went to Henrik Bjornstad with 39 or 1 under as he made 4 birdies. 1 bogey and a double bogey.

At the Pro-Am tournament on Wednesday, Nicklaus who was paired with saxophonist Kenny G and 2 NFL quarterbacks Dan Marino and Drew Brees, was six-over through 11 holes, but as hes done throughout his career, he finished the round in style. First, he holed a bunker shot at the par-3 17th for a birdie -- producing a roar from the gallery -- then rolled in another birdie at the closing hole.

I played the Bear Trap in one-under, the Golden Bear said, referring to the difficult 15th, 16th and 17th holes. I wont say much about the rest of the round. And theres no telling, had Jack played in the tournament, as to how many strokes he would have made from the back tees.

On Thursday, The Honda Classic presented the renowned soprano saxophonist, Kenny G with a special benefit concert, whose primary beneficiary is the Nicklaus Childrens Health Care Foundation. Kenny G, an avid two-handicapper, also hosted the Kenny G Gold Pro-Am which attracted not just paticipants but also created an atmosphere second to none.

Villegas the Spider-ManAnd how did the 28-year-old Spider-Man do? On the 15th he had 2 bogeys, a par and a birdie. On the 16th he was able to drain a birdie in the third round and parred the rest. While parring the 17th the whole 4 rounds of the tournament. In total, he managed to par the Bear-Trap. His 40 strokes total had been bettered only by Henrik Bjornstadt who made 39, but the Swede finished tied for 17th place.

In the top-5 bracket, Paul Casey, who tied Vijay Singh at 4th place in the tournament carded 41 to Singhs 42, after the Fijian bogeyed all

Bear-Trap holes in the final round. Vijay was almost sure to secure a second place until those bogeys. In the meantime, eventual 2nd and 3rd placers, Anthony Kim and Justin Rose each posted 43 in the Trap after both of them bogeyed the 17th.

Recalling his bogey on the 15th in the final round, Villegas said, I three-putted. I mean, it just - from where I was, it just slopes a little bit away, and the last thing you want to know - and believe it or not, is just hit in the water with the putter, and you can.

Thats how difficult the hole is, he continued, So I missed on just leaving it a little short. I just pushed that one a little bit. Like I said, I still missed three, four short putts, but came back, hit a great shot into 16. Hit exactly my spot on 17 and 2-putted.

Villegas, who just flew back from his native country, Colombia, on Tuesday for the inaugural Nationwide Tour event, had nothing to worry about on the last round. He was leading all the way, and after a birdie on the tenth hole he was enjoying a cushion of 6 strokes over Vijay Singh, the closest contender then. But the Fijian bogeyed all the Bear Trap holes to fade into tied for 4th place finish with Paul Casey.

In the meantime, the hottest player so far, Anthony Kims late charges had put his final round of 67 into solo second and Englishman Justin Roses round of the day, 64, rose to solo third.

Villegas blocked everyones attempt to close in on him with a majestic birdie on the finishing 604-yard Par-5 Hole 18 and carded 267 or 13 under for the tournament, and 5 strokes better than Anthony Kims 272.

In that instance, little wonder as he always said to the juniors about enjoying the game: Guys, life is fun. Youve got to enjoy it. The game of golf is fun. Youve got to enjoy it. Every time you go and play with your friends and compete, just come back home with a smile and enjoy the game.

And watching the Spider-Man play his game, we can always find ways to smile and enjoy his unusual style, especially around the green.

Not-So-Easy Els

It might have looked easy for Big Easy to win tournaments after a two-year drought. Apparently it was not.

At Bay Hill, he was leading after 54 holes. With only a stroke lead, anything could certainly happen. The real threat was not coming from other players, but it was the weather. After surging to a comfortable 5 strokes and 14 under for the tournament, after the 12th, Els just had to do the unthinkable.

His ball found the water on the 13th hole, where he went on to make double, then bogeyed the next hole. He was now 11 under and only two shots clear of Kevin Na on Sunday final round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by MasterCard.

Then at 14:32 hours, the horn blew to suspend play. Eventually, the suspension continued until the next day, for a Monday finish, with Ernie playing on the last group, still needing to finish 4 holes, by any chance not the easiest ones, too.

But, it could have been a blessing in disguise, for the big man. Recalling his tough luck on the 13th where he doubled it, he said: Yeah, I mean, I tried to keep it out of the trouble, I did it most of the week but it caught me on 13. I was maybe too aggressive on my drive. I wanted to get it close to the green because I didnt want to give myself too long a shot in just because of the flag positions and then I got it in the bunker. I had a good lie but the bunkers are a little bit softer.

The bunkers are a little softer than we are used to and I guess I caught a little too much sand. Obviously on 14, I just pulled a 6-iron

left into that bunker. Not a very nice way to go into a bit of a break.

After the official suspension was announced, he spoke, Obviously Im not totally at ease with myself right now. Im a little angry or disappointed or whatever you want to call it. Theres still work out there to be done, and Ive got to get it done. Ive basically got to go out there and play hard tomorrow morning, as good as I can, and basically four holes as good as I can.

The whole thing changed from being very comfortable to being just as tense as hed

After dinner, he just couldnt shake off the mistakes out of his head, thinking what he had to do the next day to win and what the weather was going to be like. Just a lot of uncertainty, for a man who sought after his 18th win on Tour.

Then Monday came. The scheduled 10 a.m. tee time to finish the tournament was again delayed. The rain continued pouring which forced the committee to move it back to till noon.

On the Par-5 16th, Els hit his tee shot to the right to force him to lay it up. Els said, I saw

Kevin Na making birdie, so I knew I was only one ahead. So I made a solid par there. Els had to make a 6-foot par putt on the 15th to keep his two-shot lead. In the meantime, playing in a group in front, Kevin Na had a two-putt birdie on the 16th to get within one shot.

Then Els had a plugged lie in the face of the bunker on the 17th. On the verge of losing the rest of his big lead, Els blasted out to just over 6 feet and knocked in the par putt to keep the lead.

On the final hole, Kevin Na drove his tee shot into the rough. He, too, had to lay up, only to miss an 8-foot par putt for a 3-under 69 and a total of 279 or 9 under to join Edoardo Molinari tied for 2nd place for the tournament.

Na slung his ball into the water, knowing he had made it just a little bit easier for Els. Theres no chance, Na said when asked if he could have gone for the 18th green. Even Tiger Woods couldnt have gotten over the water. With the lie as wet as it is, theres absolutely no chance.

Els then just played it safe on the 18th. Missing the green well to the left but away from the water. He then chipped down to 8 feet, that he gracefully finished it with a par; where else a two-putt bogey would still give him the title.

Recalling the Monday finish, Els said, You know, I played a little bit of nervous golf today, too. I missed my second shot on 15,

left, and hit a very mediocre pitch shot and I made a very good putt there.

And then 17, I thought I hit the shot of the tournament for me. I went right at it with a 4-iron and now it came up short, and then I was worried because it was plugged. You know, anything can happen out of a plugged lie. But I hit a very good shot out of there and made an even better putt.

Els continued, And then I saw Kevin hit a drive right on 18, and I heard the crowd when I was walking away from the tee. I could hear the crowd, his reaction, so I knew he made bogey. And then I hit another beauty on my second shot on 18. I tried to just play it left, hit it a bit too far left and I got the ball up-and-down from there.

So it was a hard struggle today, and you know, I really -- if I can say it, I really earned this one. From being very comfortable to being very uncertain, two very different wins.

The other win was 2 weeks earlier at TPC Blue Monster, Doral, for the WGC-CA Championship.

He returned to among the elite in golf at No. 8 in the world and became only the fifth player to win multiple times in the World Golf Championships, joining Tiger Woods, Darren Clarke, Geoff Ogilvy and Phil Mickelson.That, too, didnt come easily.

Els worked on his swing until twilight in the days leading up to Doral, then put it to the

test in a final round that was far closer than the margin suggested. Schwartzel, a 25-year-old who took part in Els junior program in South Africa, never backed down. Charl Schwartzel, finishing second to Els at Doral, after the Masters Tournament earned US$ 1,385,814.43 from the 5 PGA Tour events he joined. This might earn him ticket to PGA Tour 2011, as his already two-fold passed 2009 125th placer, Jimmy Walkers US$662,683.

This means so much, Els said. I didnt think it was ever going to happen again. But I felt all week that the work that I did, that I finally had to trust it at some stage, and theres no better day to really test yourself.

I basically just wanted to make 5 and get out of there, Els said. I havent been making those kind of putts, and you have to make putts like that to win golf tournaments at some point. Luckily for me, I did it on the 14th hole today. And absolutely, I felt a lot better after that. I felt like maybe this one is for me this week.

Els finished the World Golf Championships-CA Championship at 18-under 270 to win for the 61st time worldwide, and 17th time on the PGA TOUR. And with the other win at Bay Hill and tied for 18th place in the Masters, Els now stood on top of the FedExCup standing with 1396 points out of 9 events.

As the first player with a multiple win in the 2010 season, Els said, We as sportsmen are hard on ourselves and we beat ourselves up. Ill probably be doing that to myself at the end of the day.

Thats just what makes a great player different than the good ones.

Last May 2008, Executive Director of ASEAN Golf Tour (now ASEAN PGA), Dato Ramlan Haron, firmly stated in a press conference at Emeralda Golf Club that the principle of organizing the Mercedes-Benz Tour series was to give a priority to widen the competition opportunity for touring pros who reside in south east Asian countries . A little hope welled up in the

heart of some golfer community that there would be more chances for our local touring pros to be able to retrieve an international prestige , after many years have passed and there is no more name like Kasiadi who was accomplished in winning the Indonesia Open in 1989.

And that little hope was filled up when in the Mercedes-Benz Tour Masters Indonesia 2008 at Emeralda Golf Club that crowned a Singaporean player, Lam Chih Bing as the winner, there were 9 names of our local players in the weekend players list. A year back at Imperial, Denny Wijaya successfully took a spot in the marquee flight though he finally had to accept a Malaysian player, Danny Chias dominance in that inaugural series . And in October 2008, Rory Hie triumphantly took a champion seat in one of a series at Imperial while Andik Mauludin accompanied him as the runner up and positioned himself as the lowest amateur. Tour Masters Indonesia 2009 at Emeralda Golf Club, when Johannes Dermawan victoriously sealed the runner up position together with a Thai player, Wisut Artjanawat , followed by 26 Indonesian players as the most country players who passed the projected cut .

They all came to an agreement to give 60 spots to Indonesian best players as per Order of Merit PGPI 2010 . The tournament prize money will be US$50,000.

There are many ways to reach a victory in the game of golf with no certain prediction who would be the winner. There is a time one player can grasp the victory easily while the

other has to go through a long hard way to be there , even when noone is assured that he would win. That was the road to victory that Artemio Murakami, a Filipino player of Japanese descent had to walk over in Mercedes-Benz Masters Philippines , last April 14-17,2010 at Manila Saouthwoods Golf and Country Club. The 26-years-old was far beyond the leaderboard competing zone in the first round and at the margin of 11 strokes from Jay Bayron who led till the second round. Feeling a bit frustated with his putts in the first round paired with Indonesian, Burhan Bora dan Thailands Thanacot Tandavas, Artemio closed his first round with score 73 (1 over) and packed a 71 (1 under) in the second round which was 2 strokes over the projected cut, 146 (2 over).

and strong players , Angelo Que was one of them. Que also showed an elevating game and was at T3 with Manila-based Dutchman , Guido Van Der Valk and Juvic Pagunsan.

It seemed that this opening season of Mercedes-Benz Tour 2010 had been destined to be his when Artemio once again demonstrated his sharp game on the last day , fired a 67 (5 under) to finish total 275 (13 under) as the champion and left behind Guido, Angelo and Jay at T2 by one stroke.

Opening his game with bogey on hole 2, Artemio paid it off with birdie on hole 3 and slowly yet confidently moved to the top of leader board , packed with five birdies that he carded on hole 5, 6, 8, 17 and 18.

I dont know what to say. When I birdied 17, I was told that I was close to the lead so I said to myself I must birdie 18. I was nervous on that final putt and told myself it was just like the putt that I made to

win the Johor Open in 2007, said Murakami who bagged US$9,750, as the champion of Mercedes-Benz Masters Philippines 2010.

Jay Bayron, leader for three days could not keep his dissapointment on his failure to record an ambitious wire to wire win in this US$ 60,000 tournament.

I am very disappointed. What can I say. I was very tired after a long week of being in front. I will just have to learn from this, said Bayron to Media Manager-Golf World Sport Group, Simon Wilson, after finishing his last round.

Like a terrifying typhoon attack, Japans Tetsuji Hiratsuka, closed the final round at Pun Hlang Golf Club with margin of 10 strokes and snatched the champion title of Air

Bagan Myanmar Open presented by IBTC last April 11, 2010 .

He started his game with five opening birdies , tied his position on top of the leader board which was his spot during the four days round of this US$300,000 tournament and posted a total score of 264 (-24).

Honestly, I did not expect to win before coming to this tournament. But after four good rounds, I was even surprised to win by this big margin, said the champion who has won five times on the Japan tour.

I have come close on a few occasions and after winning here, Im definitely going to be playing more on the Asian Tour and try to win more tournaments. Its a really good Tour to play in, he added.

Whatever his reason was, it was the best performance of this 38-years-old when he took only 10 putts on the outward nine and strolled impeccably up to the winning stage and recorded his maiden Asian Tour title.

Playing quite safely on the last two days to uphold the leader board position did not diminish the birdie typhoon by that native-born Kyoto. in the country, looked very serious over the operational preparation for the upcoming international tournament entitled Kariza Indonesia championship which will be held on May 5-8, 2010 at his managed course.

It could be noticed from the way he seriously talked yet relax when this General Manager with handicap 15 enthusiastically took The Flag team around the course, showing the important areas which have been specifically prepared for one of the Mercedes-Benz Tour series with the total prize money of US$ 50,000. As a club that is often chosen to be the venue for professional golf tournaments, in your experience, what is the obstacle in organizing such events? And how do you and your team deal with it?We do not have many major obstacles in preparing a professional tournament. The least is the human resources. But again, with intensive training and field try-outs , we can manage it

Closing the operational regulation for five days is a high risk for any clubs. How do you work through it on 4th to 8th May?There is no special strategic being set up. The Club has announced the information long before the event takes place.

What kind of benefit that you hope for by being the host venue of KARIZA INDONESIA CHAMPIONSHIP , both for the clubs and the Indonesian professional golfers interest? For the club, brand awareness is an important point that is connected to the advancement of Clubs pride. Spirit competition is another thing that has to be put forward for the professional golfers; they are getting the benefit to be able competing with their fellow players from other ASEAN countries.

How do the members of Gading Raya Padang Golf & Klub response to this event? Very enthusiastic! I believe that our members are very supportive to witness an international tournament happens at their club. They give a full support during the closing time of the course.

At least 60 Indonesian professional players will be competing in KARIZA INDONESIA CHAMPIONSHIP. How is your optimism toward our players achievement so far?With more and more professional events are being organized in this country , I am certainly optimist that our players can easily compete with foreign players. Unquestionably you know very well the details of this course. According to your personal analysis, who will be able to conquer the sharpness of this sort of course, both from the national and international players?Sarmilih, Andik, and Maan have been familiar with Gading Raya course. And the international players such as Lam Chi Bing, Danny Chia or even Mardan Mamat will have no difficulties to adapt in a short time.

Do you have special messages in connection with this KARIZA INDONESIA CHAMPIONSHIP?Like a snow ball, it has been rolled by Kariza and its getting bigger.

What was your main consideration when you decided to accept Karizas offer to join in organizing the KARIZA INDONESIA CHAMPIONSHIP?Actually Ms. Ria Prawiro has asked me 5 months prior to the dates being fixed. I was just certain that what Kariza was offering is an opportunity to develop Indonesian professional golfers potencial to achieve better prestige , and Gading Raya would love to be a part in the process.

Technically, how is the progress of its preparation that you and your team are doing so far in facing this international event?Almost all the preparation are technically being prepared by Gading Raya and its team. We are very enthusiastic in doing it. Generally, Gading Raya is ready to be a good host venue.

Bermain dalam tour event ke enam nya sebagai ladies pro di La Costa Resort and Spa Carlsbad, California, Hee Kyung Seo, memulai putaran terakhirnya dengan keunggulan 5 stroke dari pegolf China Taipei, Candie Kung, yang mana tidak sekali pun ia mengalami posisi kritis selama berlangsung nya putaran tersebut.

Sungguhpun sempat tersandung double bogey di hole 16, namun skor 70 (2 under) yang di kemas nya pada hari itu cukup untuk membawanya melenggang dengan aman menuju tangga juara, meninggalkan Candie Kung yang pada hari itu bermain 72 (even par) dengan margin 7 stroke. Bahkan Kung sendiri gagal mempertahankan posisi nya, ketika Inbee Park berhasil menampilkan permainan yang cukup mengesankan dengan perolehan skor 65 (7 under) untuk menduduki posisi runner up, sekaligus menggeser Kung ke posisi 3 untuk berbagi tempat dengan dua pegolf Korea lainnya yaitu Jee Young Lee dan Jiyai Shin yang sama-sama mengemas skor 70 (2 under).

Tak heran jika ia dengan spontan langsung meloncat kegirangan kedalam rintangan kolam dangkal di pinggir lapangan, sesaat setelah menyelesaikan putting terakhir nya sebagai ceremonial leap atas kemenangannya.

Tseng tidak perduli lagi akan dirinya saat memutuskan untuk meloncat ke dalam kolam, walaupun ia sadar bahwa diri nya tidak tahu bagaimana cara berenang...namun yang pasti Yani Tseng tahu cara untuk menang, ketika dengan keyakinan yang tinggi ia berhasil mengatasi tekanan dari pesaing terdekatnya, Suzann Pettersen.

Di tengah kepanikan gempa, Yani Tseng, masih sempat melakukan gerakan canda yang mengundang tawa, ketika dirinya justru melakukan reaksi perlindungan terhadap piala yang baru saja di terima nya dengan cara memeluknya erat-erat, sebelum gempa akhir nya reda kembali dalam hitungan detik.


Tak ayal sejak menerima piala kemenangan hingga perjalanannya menuju ke ruang press conference melalui jembatan kecil di hole 18 Mission Hills Country Club, gadis kelahiran Taiwan tersebut tak lepas dari balutan jubah mandi berwarna putih untuk meresap air yang membasahi seluruh tubuh berikut pakaiannya.

Sebuah kejadian yang tak diduga pun terjadi di ruang press conference, ketika Tseng dan seluruh wartawan yang hadir di kejutkan oleh goncangan gempa bumi berkekuatan 6,9 skala Richter yang belakangan di ketahui berpusat di Baja, Meksiko.

Di tengah kepanikan gempa, Yani Tseng, masih sempat melakukan gerakan canda yang mengundang tawa, ketika dirinya justru melakukan reaksi perlindungan terhadap piala yang baru saja di terima nya dengan cara memeluknya erat-erat, sebelum gempa akhir nya reda kembali dalam hitungan detik.

Namun memang demikianlah rangkaian peristiwa spontan dan tak terduga yang seakan-akan dipersiapkan untuk menyambut keberhasilan dari seorang gadis yang selalu berusaha untuk melakukan yang terbaik bagi diri nya melalui kerja keras dan pantang menyerah.

Sejak kemenangan besar terakhirnya dalam McDonalds LPGA Championship Presented by Coca-Cola pada tahun 2008 silam, Yani memang tak pernah berhenti untuk terus melakukan improvisasi terhadap gaya permainannya hingga dalam sebuah kesempatan ia mendapatkan jawabannya langsung dari mentor sekaligus idola nya, Annika Sorenstam, yang sengaja datang ke rumah nya. Pasalnya

bukan sebuah kebetulan bahwa Yani dan keluarganya lah yang membeli rumah mantan bintang golf wanita peraih World Golf Hall of Fame tersebut di Lake Nona community of Orlando, Florida, yang kini di huni nya.

Saya berterima kasih kepada Annika Sorenstam yang mau menyempatkan dirinya datang ke rumah saya dan memberikan masukan-masukan berharga untuk meningkatkan permainan saya dari segi mental. Annika berpesan bahwa saya harus melakukan segala sesuatu dengan step by step dan menjalankannya dengan gembira tanpa harus berpikir terlalu jauh untuk mencapai sebuah keberhasilan, papar Yani Tseng akan nasihat idola nya tersebut.

super rookie, ketika pria kelahiran 1 Desember 1986 tersebut berhasil bermain dengan rata-rata skor dibawah 70 setiap hari nya dalam Sail Open 2010, di Delhi Golf Club, India.

Saya langsung merasa percaya diri setelah berhasil melakukan saved par di hole 2 melalui putting jarak jauh. Momentum itu sungguh membakar semangat saya. Namun di luar semua itu, saya sama sekali tidak menargetkan hasil apa-apa dalam turnamen ini selain berusaha bermain dengan sebaik mungkin dalam setiap seri untuk pada akhir nya nanti mampu berada di dalam zona 60 besar Asian Tour. kembali memperlihatkan performanya yang mengesankan ketika menutup putaran terakhirnya pada hari Jumat 2 April 2010 dengan skor 66 (6 under) sebagai juara, setelah dalam putaran ke dua dan ke tiga membukukan skor masing-masing 69 (3 under) dan 68 (4 under) untuk mengemas perolehan skor total 268 (20 under).

Diapit dua jawara tuan rumah berbeda generasi Shiv Kapur dan Gaganjeet Bhular di awal putaran terakhir, nampak nya bukan merupakan preasure yang berarti bagi pemuda yang berdomisili di Gothenburg, Swedia, ini dengan melesat sendirian ke puncak leader board, selepas melakukan tiga birdie berturut-turut di hole 5, 6 dan 7, untuk akhir nya membuat margin kemenangan 5 stroke.

Memang masih terlalu dini bagi Karlberg untuk dapat di kelompokkan sebagai salah satu pegolf unggulan Asian Tour dalam seri-seri ke depan di tahun ini. Namun menyaksikan kekuatannya mengatasi tekanan dalam pertandingan di usia nya yang baru menginjak 23 tahun sekaligus baru dua kali mengikuti seri kejuaraan Asian Tour sepanjang karir profesional nya, Karlberg diramalkan bakal meramaikan persaingan Rookie of The Years 2010 untuk paling tidak mampu mengakhiri dominasi para pegolf India, yang dalam dua tahun terakhir ini diraih oleh Gaganjeet Bhullar (2008) dan C. Muniyapa (2009).

Menurut Karlberg, kunci kemenangannya dalam turnamen berhadiah total US$300,000 ini terletak dari kekuatan putting nya yang tengah berada dalam kondisi top performa.

Saya langsung merasa percaya diri setelah berhasil melakukan saved par di hole 2 melalui putting jarak jauh. Momentum itu sungguh membakar semangat saya. Namun sayang nya hal tersebut tidak di ikuti oleh Danny Chia yang justru harus turun dua tingkat ke posisi T9 setelah membukukan skor 74 di putaran terakhir.

Sementara itu penghargaan Rookie of The Year 2009 di raih oleh pegolf asal India, C. Muniyapa, yang diserahkan langsung oleh Tournament Director Asian Tour, Jitisak Tamprasert, yang di ikuti oleh Senior Director Tour Operation, David Parkin, yang menyerahkan penghargaan Driving Accuracy Award kepada pegolf Korea Lee Sung.

Juara Pertamina Indonesia President Invitational 2008, Scot Hend, yang selama ini dikenal sebagai long hitter, berhasil membuktikan reputasinya

tersebut dengan meraih penghargaan Driving Distance, sedangkan untuk kategori Special Achievement Award di anugerahkan kepada honorary member Asian Tour asal Korea, Yang Yong-eun, sebagai satu-satu nya pegolf Asia yang berhasil mencatat sejarah dengan meraih gelar Major Championship dalam US PGA Championship 2009.

Asian Tour menempati tempat tersendiri di hati saya sebagai ajang persaingan pertama yang saya ikuti di luar negara saya (Korea. Red) sejak pertama kali saya beralih sebagai pro. Hal tersebut menjadi episode tersendiri dalam kehidupan saya, komentar Y. E. Yang tentang keberhasilannya tersebut.

Pegolf legendaris pemegang enam gelar Major Championship, Sir Nick Faldo, begitu memberi perhatian khusus akan hal tersebut, karena tentunya dirinya tak ingin bahwa sekian banyak lapangan yang telah di disain nya selama ini menjadi sia-sia tanpa terciptanya gaung prestasi disana.

Dasar pemikiran demikian yang dalam beberapa tahun kebelakang memacu kreatifitas Faldo bersama tim nya untuk menghasilkan tunas-tunas baru para pegolf berprestasi dengan menyelenggarakan seri junior golf dunia terbesar betajuk Faldo Series di beberapa negara Asia dan Eropa.

15 seri di 12 negara Asia termasuk Faldo Series Asia Grand Final di Cina telah di gelar dengan sukses dalam Faldo Series Asia 2009/2010, yang menghadirkan para calon bintang masa depan dari negara-negara seperti Cina, Jepang, Bahrain, Malaysia, India, Singapura, Cina Taipei, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Filipina, Thailand dan Indonesia.

Muncul sebagai champion of the champions Asia adalah pegolf berusia 14 tahun Masamichi Ito, yang sekaligus juga berhasil untuk pertama kali nya membawa negeri sakura Jepang dalam lingkaran utama negara penghasil tunas bintang golf Asia.

Kemenangan pegolf junior asal kota Kanagawa ini juga memupus ambisi pegolf India, Rashid Khan, untuk menciptakan hattrick kemenangan setelah dirinya berhasil menjuarai dua periode sebelumnya secara berturut-turut. Pada tahun ini Khan harus puas menempati urutan ke 3 dengan skor total 218 (2 over).


Nick Faldo dan Masamichi Ito Thidapa Suwannapura

Merupakan sebuah momentum yang sungguh membanggakan bagi Masamichi Ito ketika dirinya langsung menerima trophy kemenangan dari sang legenda, Sir Nick Faldo, di atas podium juara, apalagi dengan keberhasilannya ini dirinya berhak untuk turun berlaga dalam Faldo Series European Grand Final yang akan berlangsung pada 21 hingga 23 September mendatang di Lough Erne Resort, Co. Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, ditambah satu spot dalam salah satu major event Asian Tour.

Keberangkatan Ito ke North Ireland nanti akan diikuti juga oleh para juara dari lima kategori (3 boys & 2 ladies) dalam Faldo Series Asia Grand Final ini, termasuk sang juara overall putri berusia 17 tahun asal Thailand, Thidapa Suwannapura, yang berhasil mengungguli seluruh pegolf junior putri Asia di posisi ke 5 dengan perolehan skor total 220 (4 over).

Namun keberhasilan Ito yang bermain dalam kategori Boys under 16, ternyata tidak mudah di capai ketika harus meraih gelar internasional pertamanya tersebut dengan pertarungan sudden death play off melawan pegolf asal Cina Taipei, Hsieh Chi Hsien yang bermain dalam kategori Boys under 21.

Ito dan Hsieh harus kembali untuk saling bertarung di hole 18, par 5, berjarak 486 yards, setelah kedua nya sama-sama menutup permainan hari terakhirnya dengan skor 214 (2 under) di Faldo Course at Mission Hills Golf Club, China.

Keduanya sama-sama melakukan tee shot dengan menggunakan driver, namun pukulan 7-wood Ito dalam second shot ternyata terlebih dahulu mendarat dengan mulus di atas green. Dan dengan dua kali sentuhan putt berhasil mengungguli Hsieh melalui perolehan birdie.

Artinya tujuh pegolf junior Asia bakal mengisi entry list di puncak seri kejuaraan junior terbesar di Eropa tersebut. Mereka masing-masing adalah Hsieh Chi Hsien (CHT), Rashid Khan (Ind), Masamichi Ito (Jap), S. Chikkarangappa (Ind), Thidapa Suwannapura (Tha), Chien Pei Yun (CHT) dan Yi Chen LIU (CHT).

Sementara para pegolf junior Indonesia yang diwakili oleh Clement Erio, Fahmy Reza, Endin Zarems, Agnes Retno Sudjasmin dan Marcella Pranovia, belum mampu berbuat banyak menghadapi para Tunas Bintang Asia lainnya untuk mampu meraih kesempatan yang lebih jauh di kancah persaingan junior golf internasional, kecuali Fahmy Reza yang berhasil menduduki posisi ke tiga dalam kategori Boys under 18.

Mungkin apa yang dilakukan oleh pegolf Jepang Tetsuji Hiratsuka boleh di katakan sebagai sebuah peristiwa yang langka terjadi dalam beberapa

dekade terakhir ini, ketika berhasil membuka permainannya dengan menciptakan 5 birdie secara berturut-turut dalam final round Air Bagan Myanmar Open pada hari Minggu 11 April 2010 lalu.

Menutup empat hari permainannya di Pun Hlaing Golf Club dengan skor total 264 (24 under), Hiratsuka berhasil meraih gelar pertama Asian Tour nya dengan penampilan spektakuler melalui perolehan 2 eagle, 25 birdie dan 5 bogey untuk mengantungi hadiah uang sebesar US$47,550.

Ketajaman dan kekuatan permainan pegolf Jepang berusia 38 tahun tersebut memang telah terlihat sejak dirinya menyudahi hari pertama seri Asian Tour berhadiah total US$300,000 tersebut dengan skor 64 (8 under). Selanjutnya tak ada seorang pun pesaingnya yang mampu untuk mengejar atau bahkan sekedar mendekati perolehan skor nya setelah pada hari kedua Hiratsuka melengkapi keunggulannya dengan skor 65 (7 under), tanpa satu kali pun terjerat bogey.

Cukup bermain aman pada dua hari terakhir untuk tetap kokoh di puncak leader board, tidak sedikitpun mengurangi lajunya terjangan Badai Tsunami dari pegolf kelahiran Kyoto tersebut untuk terus memperlebar jarak keunggulannya dari dua pegolf tangguh Thailand Prayad Marksaeng dan Thaworn Wiratchant yang membuntutinya, dengan mengemas skor masing-masing 69 pada hari ke tiga dan 66 pada hari terakhir untuk margin kemenangan perfect 10.
