October, a time for conversation, learning, and celebration
During October members of Fjeldberg will be gathering into small groups for the purpose of conversation regarding our shared ministry and in thinking about what qualities are important in the next Pastor. Based upon these conversations, we expect to elect a call committee later in November to begin the search for a new Pastor. Continue to keep the congregation in your prayers as we join in these conversations! In the meantime, in October, we hope you will join in a time of coffee and
informal conversation immediately following worship from 10:00-10:15.
For those who desire to stay after coffee (and yes, you can keep drinking
coffee and having goodies) I will be offering a “Pastor’s class” in the fel-
lowship hall for the first three Sundays of the month. For the first Sunday
we will talk about how we, as Lutherans, read the Scriptures. You might
be surprised to learn that we do read Scriptures in a particular way. The
next two weeks I will be teaching and leading a discussion regarding how
we come up with Social Statements. And, in particular, how we came to
the Human Sexuality statement of the Church. Given our congregational
past and my own experience regarding some misunderstanding about
how that issue developed, you might be interested in hearing a first per-
son account regarding how we got to where we are. I would encourage
you for all sessions to bring your Bible.
Finally, on October 26th our young people will be affirming their baptism.
In the Lutheran church we call this “Confirmation.” This is a wonderful
celebration in the church and therefore after worship we will have a spe-
cial reception in the fellowship hall in celebration of this event. We hope
many of you come and give your blessing on the confirmands on October
26th after worship. And of course, we also hope many of you might invite
a friend to worship and the Pastor’s calls during October.
See you in Church! Pastor Cline, Interim

Greetings:
October is upon us and many exciting meetings and small
group discussions will be happening in the next few weeks.
Get engaged with your small groups and be part of the Future
of Fjeldberg. Many volunteer hours have been put in by the
History Committee and Discernment Committee. These up
coming meetings will be critical in setting forth the Mission
and direction for Fjeldberg Lutheran Church..
I would like to thank all the volunteers that have put in such
great quality time plus energy to help make Fjeldberg a fun
place to worship. Thank your leaders and staff for the great
job they have done! Especially the Sunday School leaders and
teachers...What a great day we had Rally Sunday!
Remember why we come together on Sunday. It is not just a
“thing that we do” on Sunday morning, but a gathering of like
minded people coming together in prayer and support for each
other.
Remember the leadership and staff in your prayers, lift them
up for guidance and support.
Thanks again for Volunteering at Fjeldberg. We Need YOU
to carry out our mission for Christ at Fjeldberg Lutheran.
Please remember Brent Stanek and his family in your prayers
as his father battles cancer.

Transforming Life and Faith
Always Changing
Theme Verse for the Year
Romans 12:2b "...be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that
you may discern what is the will of
God--what is good and acceptable and perfect."
Session 2: We Are Called
Theme Verse: Isaiah 6:8
"Then I heard the voice of the Lord say-
ing, 'Whom shall I send, and who will
go for us?' And I said, "Here am I; send me!"
Main Texts: Isaiah 6:1-13;Luke 5:1-
11; Galatians 1:1, 11-24
This month we will study the calls of
Isaiah, Simon Peter & the other fisher-
men, and revisit Paul. We will also
focus on our call through Baptism.
There is real power & majesty in the
call of Isaiah. Isaiah does not think
that he is worthy, but he answers the
call after God reassures him. Simon
Peter initially reacts in the same way
until he sees the nets breaking with the
weight of the fish & realizes Jesus'
power. Isaiah & Simon Peter were
transformed after their encounters with
God & Jesus. Simon Peter & his fish-
ermen friends were called to "catch
people".
Through our baptism, we are called.
Do you know how old you were, what
church, the date, the sponsors? I was
47 days old. I was baptized on my par-
ents wedding anniversary. I was born
on my mother's birthday so was named
after her and my middle name is Mae.
Come ready to share about your Bap-
tism Day.
We are transformed and made a child
of God through baptism. We are
called. We may be called in little ways
or big ways, but we are called into that
large community of faith. Our author
reminds us, "Sent forth in so many
varied callings in daily life to love and
serve the neighbor, to care for family
and friends....and to strive for justice
and peace and to share the good news
of Jesus Christ."
Whether called in little ways or big
ways, can we answer "Here I am! Use
me!"?
