the first step to being powerful
DESCRIPTION
Take the first step to being powerfulTRANSCRIPT
You can’t control the things that you say to yourself, but you
can control what you listen to.
For far too long we’ve been sold the lie that you can learn to
“silence the inner critic.” You can’t! It’s how we are hard
wired. Our mind is our “frenemy.” It’s helps us to solve the
most amazing challenges in our outer world, but when we
turn those problem solving skills internally, to try to solve our
pain, fear and doubt, it backfires. So stop wasting your time
trying to control your thoughts and feelings.
When you hear words like this inside your
head “I really screwed that up! What an idiot!
That has cost me big time. I don’t even know if I
can pull it back from here,” then don’t spend time
analysing it.
Don’t suck it up, don’t tough it out, don’t “man up,”
don’t get over it, don’t harden up. Just get on with it!
You don’t need to own your story, you don’t need to talk
to yourself as a friend, you don’t need to first see your
own self as powerful enough to act, you don’t need to
grant yourself power. You simply need to say that
famous four-letter word that all high performers scream
after failure – NEXT!
If you spend time inside your head listening to the
negativity, fear and doubt then you end up dancing
with it and doing a bunch of ridiculous and non
productive things to get over it.
You’d do much better to not start dancing with it in the
first place.
But that’s the challenge – the voices are in your head –
so you should take them seriously, right? Wrong. Just
because those voice are in there, you don’t have to
believe them. Doubt your doubts. That’s the first step
to being powerful.
