INTRODUCTION


The Farz Foundation is holding the first ever conference on Islamic microfinance in Pakistan at Lahore Chamber of

Commerce and Industry auditorium on January 29, 2011.Mr Iftikhar Ali Malik, Vice president SAARC Chamber of commerce and Industries, will chair the inaugural session.

There would be panel discussion on Islamic Microfinance, Challenges and opportunities in the second session chaired

by Dr Amjad Saqib, CEO Akhawat Microfinance.In the third session on Farz Methodology, Mr Farhat Abbas Shah, CEO Farz Foundation will chair the proceedings.

The fourth session will be held on micro Enterprise Development and Islamic Microfinance, chaird by Mr Sultan Tiwana,

GM SMEDA (Small Medium Enterprise Development Authority).

In the fifth session a discussion will be held on the ways to market Islamic banking, Finance and Takaful (Islamic

Insurance). The leading Islamic Banks and Takaful companies will take part in the session. This last penal discussion will

be chaired by Mr Shahid Iqbal Mohammad, President Naymet Islamic Microfinance trust. Office bearers of all the

chambers of commerce of Pakistan, noted businessmen Partner organizations including AHAN, Akhawat, Alhudda,

SMEDA,, Skill Development Council Punjab, Naymet Trust and Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industries (LCCI)

will participate.

Award ceremony will be held at the end of the conference to honor the individuals and partner organizations for

outstanding performance.This ceremony will be presided over by Mr Shehzad Malik, President LCCI while Mr Tahir Malik, Chairman/CEO Trafco

Group of Companies will be the chief guest. Mr Tahir Malik is also the Farz Foundation's Ambassador for poverty

alleviation.

Chairman Skill Development Council Punjab, Mr. Rehmatullah Javed will support the conference as the ChiefCoordinator.

Mr.Nadeem Bhatti, CEO Figure Garment industry and Chairman standing committee for Garment Industry FPCCI. will

deliver a welcome address in the award-giving ceremony. The leading international web-based magazine Microfinance

Focus News and the first Bi Monthly Magazine of Pakistan, True Banking, the leading TV channels News One ,

Punjab TV, Star Asia, FM Radio 95 Punjab Rung and Radio FM 95.6 Lahore Chamber ki Awaz have consented to be our

The purpose of this conference is to offer concrete solutions to our economic crisis that has assumed alarmingproportions in recent times, particularly owing to recent floods. This whole exercise is also aimed at targetingpoverty which plagues the majority of our population. In the conference, we intend to provide opportunity forlearning and sharing experiences to develop the micro enterprises through Islamic Microfinance.

We all know pretty well that trickle down theory hardly worked through out the world. But, through sustaining thepoor with training and provision of productive assets, ultimately macroeconomic stability could be achieved(Twist up economic theory).

CONCEPT


This occasion will provide an opportunity tolearn how Farz Methodology and other Islamicmodels can help reduce poverty andcontribute to macroeconomic stability. Whatnecessitates this mode of financing is the setbacks in the conventional Microfinancewitnessed through out the world.

The practitioners from various IslamicMicrofinance organizations will also sharetheir own knowledge and experiences about

the sector.The participants will also learn how did Islamicbanking and finance survived the most testingtimes and what role it can play in days to come.
