THE WRIGHT REsTauRanT

nEW YORK

One of the biggest tourist attractions of New York – The

Guggenheim Museum Building, designed by a famous architect

Frank Lloyd Wright, after a thorough rejuvenation, recently

celebrated its 50th birthday. Beside many priceless valuables

of this museum, even leading members of the Board call this

building “the most important work of art in the collection”.

Since it opened in 1959 the building have attracted a large

number of people at the same time causing a great controversy

because of its “revolutionary” design since moving and climbing

through the gallery is spiral. Through Guggenheim, which is

located at the corner of Fifth Avenue and 89th Street, pass about

a million visitors a year and the dynamics of sculptural form is still

more important reason to visit than the art collection.

The Wright at the Guggenheim is designed

by Andre Kikoski Architect, an imaginative,

award-winning Manhattan-based architecture

and design firm.

“It was both an incredible honor and

an exhilarating challenge to work within

Wright’s iconic building,” says Kikoski,

adding “every time we visit, we see a new

subtlety in it that deepens our appreciation

of its sophistication. We sought to create

a work that is both contemporary and

complementary.”

The design solution references the building’s architecture without repeating it, and in the process transforming familiar

geometries, spatial effects and material qualities. The playfulness of forms and the dynamics of movement through this 1,600

square foot space imbue the design with novelty, subtlety and intrigue, in part through the material palette of the space.

The project is representative of Andre Kikoski Architect’s style - inventive, dramatic and highly tactile. Sculptural forms for the

flared ceiling, undulating banquette, and torqued bar and communal table are crafted in contemporary materials. They are based

on Wright’s underlying geometries. The design brings to life a play between these sculptural elements and the architecturally-

layered, illuminated materials that invite participation and a sense of delight for all patrons.

HOME STYLE ■ ARCHITECTURE 09

“We chose materials and colors for these

dynamic forms that are restrained and elegant”

explains Andre Kikoski.

The design features include:

■ a curvilinear wall of walnut layered with

illuminated fiber-optics■ a bar clad in a shimmering skin of

innovative custom metalwork and topped

in seamless white Corian■ a sweeping banquette with vivid blue

leather seating backed by illuminated

planes of woven grey texture■ and a layered ceiling canopy of taut white

membrane.

Andre Kikoski Architect’s design philosophy

for this restaurant engages the heightened

sense of procession that is essential to the

experience of this building – and the dynamic

perception of art that it fosters. Surfaces and

textures are animated by movement, creating

an ever-changing fluid aesthetic that is an

essential part of the design.

From the rich Russian tradition, production of

wooden houses and other buildings of wood is

called “Rusko zodchestvo” (Russian tradition). Any

traveler, who visits Russia and famous island of

Kizhi, will realize the meaning of the context above,

from whose tradition of Russian wooden houses,

churches and all other related facilities, still very

powerful industry in the manufacture of wooden

homes emerged.

With the Anglo-Saxon settlement on the American continent, famous “izbushka” (Russian wooden house) had descended over

Alaska and Canada, down to North America. From Anglo-Saxon skeletal system, in rich offer of Canadian cedar forests powerful

“Log home” Association was born. Villas, residencies, rich ranches, hotels in Aspen, Colorado and other places began to rise.

Unfortunately, Russian “izba” had a period of stagnation till the 90s, but the tradition of building wooden homes, with rich offer

of Russian Siberian Forest SOŚNO, larch and cedar, began to rise to such proportions that today, in Russia there is an offering

in building of wooden homes with traditional methods of Russian, Norwegian, Canadian glass, as well as Finish technology of

mechanically treated wood.

Wood in Russian, Norwegian and Canadian types, manually stacked logs, reaches the diameter of 25cm to 50cm, from the

brood of SOŚNO wood, cedar or larch, and in mechanical processing from 20-30cm.

Page 12: THE FIRST ELECTRONIC HOME LIFE STYLE MAGAZINE · PDF fileEditor-in-chief Mina Petijević Art Review Editor Milica Mandić Graphic Editor, Design and Preparation mini STUDIO design

In comparison with the Swiss Alps and their traditional “shale”, Norwegian “hite” or analyzing the culture of living in northern

Japan, huge similarities with the tradition of this type of Russian wooden house can be observed.

The heat of rustically processed wood gives fairytale-like picture of home for vacation. The ambience and atmosphere of home

speak for themselves; in -30°C in your own home you have a hot sauna, jakuzzi or a small pool, warm rustic fireplace and all the

accompanying facilities of the most luxurious apartments and villas.

snowdrift. Embracing a huge boulder, the two houses are organized around an internal courtyard, a snow garden.

The outer sheltering stonewalls are cracked for individual focused views towards the exposed outside, while the walls towards

the courtyard are extensively glazed, just protected by the covering roof.

The plan is organized as a series of individual spaces set along the internal walkway that surrounds the courtyard. While the

level of the roof is fixed in the section, the floors step in relation to the falling terrain and thus organize hierarchy of spaces

related to height.

FEnG sHuIFROnT DOOR

What is feng shui?

Feng shui is a science that emerged on the territory of

ancient China, but was a privilege only for the rich, so

for a long time it was hidden. People who mentioned or

practiced it were punished at the time. FENG SHUI (AIR

WATER) means that through our living space positive

CHI or KI energy needs to pass, as the bright spring

water or the fresh mountain air.

Is it applicable to our housing conditions?

Certainly! Many apartments especially in the area were

under the influence of negative arrows. Affected were

the apartments with missing sectors and were in need

for the cure. Healing is achieved by colors, sounds,

somewhere silence, movements, symbols, etc…

Activating the Feng shui sector we can expect much

more in almost all areas of our lives – better health,

greater business success, and thus greater profits and

other. First we must try to activate the most vulnerable

sectors and a result will be visible in a surprisingly short

period. To help you understand the principles of feng

shui science, we will start from the main entrance area.

“Many people kept these formulas secret, storing them jealously and fanatically. Old teachers submitted them to their favorite students or blood relatives, but only orally” Lillian Too

19HOME STYLE ■ INTERIOR

Entrance door and sector 1 (career sector) Our people think that entrance door is very important because of the security

issues. Can well secured door protect us from the energy that we do not see, that we feel or the energy that’s left by

passing-by people? Door is certainly a barrier between our intimacy (our life) and all external developments that we expect or

unfortunately, lurk.

The best color for the front door is white, bright and shiny, with metal lock, handle and mandatory plate with a surname. If there is

no chance to paint a door in white due to aesthetics, then it certainly must be spotlessly clean, painted and illuminated. In front of

the door place a door-mat in the color of water: blue-green, navy, grey or black (according to colors of the career sector).

■ If there is a staircase next to your door, or nearby people that

you are not really fond of, then place a healthy tree or flowers,

but without barbed leaves.

■ Make sure that your door bell always rings properly with a

pleasant sound in order not to bother your folks.

■ Place a sensor lamp in front of the door, regardless of the

common lighting, because light is very important feng shui cure.

Career sector that starts from the front door also needs to be

painted with gray-blue shades. Floor mat or wall pictures may be

in motives of the waves. In this sector, there mustn’t be barriers

towards other premises of the apartment, because energy barriers

can affect your career.

“Briefly constrain your skepticism and discover another way

of looking at the energy that permeates the space around

you. Discover the deep meaning of the simplicity of yin-yang

cosmology” Lillian Too

aEsTHETICs OF COMFORTLiving room of today hasn’t changed its purpose and type of

furniture for half a century. There is a variety of styles that are

sometimes combined, but the greatest pleasure is when you

experience commodity and comfort of the dominant element –

SOFA.

From the point of view of the historian of art, the designer or

the furniture manufacturers themselves, chair has the primary

place in history of art, and it is believed to be a precursor of sofa

so it’s very hard to precisely determine a historical period of its

occurrence.

New shape of sofa occurs in the 18th century through the famous styles of French kings Lui XIV and Lui XV, as well as the

“REGENSY” style in England. This period is marked by a specific form with outer visible and extremely decorated frame, coated

seat and backrest that can still be recognized with some manufacturers. In this period sofa becomes the central element and

starts to determine the tendency – style of the interior. The revolution of sofa development occurs after The Second World War,

when appliance of some new materials begins as well as the need for socialization and comfort. The changes that commence in

design of sofa are very dashing, bright colors appear, rich texture, free forms that reflect the avant-garde which is still dominant.

DanDYcorner sofa was manufactured in Toscany, traditionally the main center of manufacturing furniture. Frame is made of solid wood and selected

Speer plate. Basis for the seat consists of a rubber net which is similar to safety belt and is made of knitted elastic rubber tape and polyurethane

foam that doesn’t deform.

coated with white quality leather. Backrest and armrest are made in the so-called English suture. Trestle

are made of solid beech. Dimensions are 280x108/90x45 cm.

In modern interior, lines of the garniture are straight, shapes are simple, dimensions are bigger, but it is all in accordance with

the possibilities of the living room. Bright colors are trendy as well as the earth colors - bright or extremely dark (beige or brown),

flower patterns – linear or like wallpaper in the sixties. Emphasis is achieved by cushions in contrast colors or in leather of the

exotic animals (zebra).

Sitting suite today is made of leather or mebel fabric of natural material. With its variety of shapes, dimensions, with two-seater

garniture, three-seater garniture, corner garniture or round, it represents the perfect balance of design, ergonomics and comfort,

flexible forms and adjustable pillows. With automatic caret of backrest and feet-rest, and built-in heater and massager incredible

pleasure is achieved. Traveling through time and changing its form and shape, Sofa captivates the aesthetics of comfort today.

ELOROAt Furniture Fair in Milan 2008 one of the most prominent exhibits was sofa ELORO. It was designed by Rodolfo Dordoni for the Cassini. The

creation of this sofa is much more agreeable with the real ergonomic requirements, whose form due to gentle and flexible structure, is perfectly

adapted to the anatomy of the human body. Wooden massive and leather were used for construction. Within the frame of sofa, feather-filled,

large and comfortable back and sitting pillows are spread and that is the evidence that the need for comfort does’t have to be visually attractive

The first promotional project of the new serbian scene of design was introduced at the World greatest furniture fair in Milan in april 2009, and it was initiated by cultural organization Mixer and The agency for foreign

investments and export promotion (sIEPa). We present to you projects of domestic young talents whose creativity is permeating through manufacturing of unique wooden elements.

Materialization of 75 - 25% chair represents a reaction / a respond

to uncontrolled desire for consumption of natural resources and

making junk in our environment, and on the other hand it is a

respond on a current eco-dilemma of usage of materials in industrial

design: wood or plastic?

75 - 25% chair has a function of smaller coffee chair,

something like stool with reversed backrest, which can

be used for sitting in cafes, clubs, and galleries. Light and

reduced dimension is adjustable to various spontaneous

positions of the body. This chair is a combination of wood

(in production the most immanent natural material that is

disappearing) and recycled plastic (the most immanent

artificial material whose junk is increasing). Part for sitting

with trestles is wooden (~ 75%), and backrest of the chair is

a casting of recycled plastic (~ 25 %).

Basic idea in making ARC lounge chair is a possibility to bring a few elements in every moment, and put them together in object

for resting, on the beach or anywhere else in nature. With its ergonomic form lounge chair awakens the observer’s desire to lie

down and take a rest.

The aesthetics and comfort are given an equal amount of attention, and the object itself is light to carry around, and it doesn’t

take too much space. Parts of this lounge chair are made by Speer plate and are connected by elastic tape, which makes it

DIsCOVER THE WaLLsWallpapers usually remind us of past times and the old

granny’s room. But for a long time they are not what

they once were. Current trends re-introduce the use of

wallpaper, a floral, geometric and abstract forms have

become unavoidable in the arranging of space. That way

the limits of design and interior are shifted, and everything

is subordinated to the creativity and originality.

They are made from different materials, paper, leather,

textile, it is easy to set them up and take them down, they

do not fade, they can be washed and painted, they are

stable and durable, and there are some that are enriched

with Swarovski crystals. You can arrange your space

by creating the perfect harmony of design, color and

material.

If you choose to refresh your room, wallpapers are an ideal detail to emphasize some vertical surfaces or only some parts.

We recommend that the other walls be painted in neutral tones or matched with the colour of walpapers, for better space

connectivity. Make sure that you don’t encrust secundary walls with wallpapers, because they will attract unnecessary attention,

but try to emphasize that part of the interior you wish to be most pronounced in space.

THE MaGIC OF LIGHT

Light affects perception and perception creates

experience of the world surrounding us. It affects our

biorhythm, health, mood, so it is very important to

create an adequate lighting for performing everyday

activities in the most crowded room in our house –

THE LIVING ROOM.

Lighting has a great power in creating a perfect

atmosphere. To illuminate your home you need advice

from the architect in spatial planning of the ceilings,

partition walls, furniture and home elements. An

engineer of lighting can help you choose the type of

illumination, as well as the light source that determines

the volume and character of light.

The living room reflects life style and status of people who live in that space. Most of the time is spent in there. Socializing with

family and friends, reading, watching television, etc... These are all activities that require different types of lighting, and for creating

warm and cozy atmosphere it is necessary for them to match.

It is very important to present a certain amount of natural light in the living room depending on its position, planning and the

position of certain elements of home. For instance, TV and computer monitor is not desirable to be turned towards the window

because of the gleam effect, unlike the working surface which should be next to the window. The most natural decrease of light

is from up to down and in that sense various types of glass roofs, slanted windows and atriums are used more and more in

modern architecture.

Deficiencies of daylight can be amended with proper selection of lighting, and thus artificial light will create desired

atmosphere, hide flaws and emphasize the advantages of each area. We will present to you a few details for achieving

interesting effects:

The main lighting - soft light of a chandelier or ceiling connects the entire lighting and softens harsh shadows. With various

design, style fitting in the environment, or presenting a sculpture for itself once again became an indispensable element of

modern interiors. Hanging lamps can be very traditional or modern, made of modern materials such as stainless steel, clirit, sand

blasted or transparent glass, aluminum, brass and other.

35HOME STYLE ■ LIGHTING

Floor or table – the representation of such lamps of different heights creates the impression of spaciousness. For reading, strong

and directed light is necessary. The light behind the TV reduces glare, contrast of a strong light and the shadow around it.

Wall lighting – contributes to creating a romantic ambient. In addition to aesthetic purposes, it is also used for emphasis of

space or objects - shelves, pictures and other.

Built-in lighting – can be adjustable so that its appliance emphasizes certain objects and images. Lowered ceiling gives the

possibility of forming alcoves or plaster cascades, thereby achieving the effects of so-called sufit lighting – a light source that is

hidden in alcoves. With alcoves of cascade walls linear diffuse light is used.

A man is primarily attracted to the brightest point in space, while dark areas remain unnoticed. The game of light and shadow,

YOuR CORnER“We live in an apartment of 47m2, but space does not meet all our needs. We are planning to seclude the kitchen away from the bathroom and expand the living room which is extremely small and there is no space to accommodate all the necessary things including dining table. If possible we would reduce our bedroom

because it is pretty large, in order to make our living room bigger…” Ivana and Marko, Belgrade

The young married couple lives on the ground

floor of the residential building surrounded by

beautiful greenery of the large yard. Apartment

contains one and a half room but their layout is

dysfunctional. For the best solution we made a

proposal in accordance with their requirements

and wishes.

The first problem is access to the bathroom

because you must pass through the kitchen to

get to it. Such a solution is not adequate, nor

practical so we suggest you move a kitchen

where your store room is, and shorten your store

room which is over-dimensioned. Since there

are already adequate installations to connect the

sink and the dishwasher, a new solution is very

possible to achieve.

In the new store room you can put machines

for washing and drying of cloths and an ironing

board.

37HOME STYLE ■ YOUR CORNER

Bathroom remains at the same place with the small

reorganization of sanitary facilities. Make a wardrobe

with closets which would constitute a connection

between bathroom and the bedroom and would also

separate night zone of the crowded hallway and the

main entrance of the apartment.

Our suggestion is to put some interesting shelves

across the entire wall of the hallway, for example in

white color with fi llings of cheerfully colored plexiglass.

You can place mirrors on the opposite wall, as well

as the adequate lighting, built-in cabinet for the most

effective use of space and visual expansion with

interesting details. In this new version, size of the

bedroom is suffi cient for placing all the necessary

components, bed, American closet, night table

and plasma TV. Living room, in this newly projected

version, is much more comfortable with enough

space for smooth communication and placement

of a dining table, sitting garniture, armchairs, coffee

tables, show cases and TV. A bar with bar stools

and hanging lighting would visually block the view to

a new spacious kitchen. Opening to the courtyard is

certainly the greatest charm of this room.

39LIFE STYLE ■ TAKE A TRIP

Over the past few years ski touring (combination of skiing and walking) has become an attractive discipline. It is

recommended, due to unmarked terrain, to be in a company of professional guide instructors. Depending on the route, trips

last from half to several days.

Except for sports, there are many facilities, such as centers for the preservation of beauty and health facilities with

massage, sauna, Jacuzzi, aroma therapy and many other treatments for relaxation. There are also many kindergardens

and entertainment centers for the guardianship and care of children, so parents can be relieved and have a little time for

themselves.

To feel the complete atmosphere of French mountain lodges, we strongly recommend you to stay here. Have a taste

of traditional specialties of melted cheese “Fondi”, “Raclette” and also cheese with potatoes in numerous cafes and

restaurants.

We hope that by presenting the most famous ski resort in France, we have managed to tickle your imagination. If you haven’t

decided on where to go for skiing, Chamonix is thr perfect choice.

41LIFE STYLE ■ TAKE A TRIP

We encourage you to visit the largest urban forest in the world – Tijuca, which is adorned by many waterfalls and rich flora and

fauna. The easiest way to tour the forest is by Jeeps, but it also can be explored on foot. Above the forest there is a mountain

Corcovado at whose top famous statue of Christ the Savior is set, which is one of the most recognizable symbols. From there,

spreads a beautiful view of the city with amazing architecture, numerous museums and the surrounding bay which can also be

experienced from the hill “Pao de acucar” (sugar loaf).

Open type of entertainment is usually held on the beaches, especially around Ipanema and Le Blona, with traditional Brazilian

music. These parties occur spontaneously and you won’t find announcements for them anywhere, so it would be best to discover

them yourselves. Traditional Carnival gives the special charm to this city, and shortly it is a parade of beauties who dance in the

rhythm of samba. This event starts on February the 17th and ends on February the 20th. Every year the school of samba chooses

a theme and creates richly decorated movable scenery and costumes that are made throughout the year. Stadium from which you

can see the parade can accommodate 88.500 visitors, and a path for marching is 700 m long. The program starts at nine p.m.

and lasts until morning, about twelve hours total. Each performance starts with fireworks. The Rio de Janeiro, for many people the

most beautiful city of the world, the city of amusement, sunshine and love, every February becomes the world’s capital of tourism

that is visited by millions of tourists. Through the whole year Brazil lives for the Carnival, so you can at least experience it once.

LuxuRYWITH sTYLE

Recognizable front and rear end with strange looking side

lines and incredible length of 497cm make Panamera com-

fortable and luxurious sedan with its already known high sport

performance. Width of 193cm and height of 142cm, with the

luggage compartment volume of 445 liters, body is most-

ly made of light metal such as aluminum and magnesium,

which reduced the weight of an empty vehicle to 1770kg.

In Panamera two engines with direct injection are built. The

basic model is equipped with standard six-speed manual

gearbox, and there is also an electronic air suspension,

propulsion on every four wheels and a new Porsche seven

degree transmission. A weaker model develops a speed of

283km/h, while the Turbo model reaches even 303km/h.

The entire length of the interior is dominated by a central

console, made from the highest quality leather and wood of

carbon elements, which divides a place for four passengers

in Panamera. Steering wheel is designed in a recognizable

style of Porsche, as well as the instruments, which are domi-

nated by central set pointer rotation. Central Reef, in space

between the driver and the front passenger is slightly elevat-

ed and the gear lever is relatively high and near the driver’s

hands. Seats are, typically for the Porsche, very comfortable,

low-positioned and provide sense of direct contact with the

road. The front seats are designed in the sport spirit, with

strong side strongholds.

Far Eastern details, discrete illumination and discrete music, Ginger brings out the fusion of Japanese, Thai and Chinese cuisine,

with unique spices and ingredients, some of which appear for the first time in Belgrade gastronomic scene.

LIBERTInDuring the course of the 17th, 18th, and 19th

century name Libertin was referred to people who don’t have any limitations, who crave for joys of

life, unconstrained freedom and individualism. Today, that name stands for the spirit of wine

that arises from hot southern slopes of Wine top winery.

Grapes that store warmth of the sun and gentleness of wind, together with ground

on which they grow, provide the wine with intoxicating fragrances and freshness of

taste. Rhine Riesling, Pinot Gray, Black Pinot, Chardonnay, Muscat Yellow, Traminac,

Graševina, sauvignon white and Cabernet sauvignon make this wealth of vineyards, and all

together complete the name of Libertin.

Pinot Gray is a crystal clear wine of a straw yellow

color, with golden glow of emphatic fruit flavors that

prevail in the scents of ripe pear, melon, apricot

and lemon. Balanced wine with persistent taste.

Traminac is a wine of a straw yellow color, of

very prominent varietal aroma and bouquet, with

fullness that characterizes this variety. Its harmony

and elegance make it a very pleasant aperitif wine,

it is served with dishes that include white meat and

fish, but at most it agrees with light deserts.

Pinot noir is a wine that was left to lie in wood,

a scent reminiscent of wild fruit, blueberries and

blackberries. Ruby red color. It is served with

venison and piquant cheeses.
