LEADER: All loved by God.
ALL: We gather to worship,
LEADER: To offer concern and joy,
ALL: To be reminded to love as we have been loved.
LEADER: That we might become makers of your peace in our homes, in our
communities, and in our world.
ALL: So let us worship God together. Amen!

THE CALL TO CONFESSION Sue Crocker
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE OF PARDON
(following a time of silence)
Creator God, you made us to be neighbors, members of one family blessed
with great diversity. You created us to be helpers and friends to one another,
entrusting to us your justice and your joy. Yet, we have denied justice and joy
to many, creating worlds of poverty, pain, lost opportunities, and absence of
hope. In so many ways, we break each other’s hearts. Still, you do not reject
us. We ask your forgiveness and pray to be transformed.
Loving God, you restore us to each other and to you, mending our hearts
and repairing the world. Through the power of your Spirit, you shape us to be
for others what Christ is for us: pardon and peace, new life and blessing. We
give you thanks for your love, forgiveness, and constant presence. Amen.

THE OFFERTORY ANTHEM Prayer of St. Francis Michael Bedford
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow
love, where there is injury, pardon, where there is doubt, faith, where there is
despair, hope, where there is darkness, light, where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to
console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love, for it is in giving
that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we
are born to eternal life. Amen. - Saint Francis of Assisi

THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE 313 Beloved, God’s Chosen ASH GROVE
THE ORGAN POSTLUDE Cortege Flor Peeters
Assisting with worship leadership today are Deacon of the Week Ruxton Bobbitt and
Ann Marie White.
Music for this morning’s service is offered by clarinetist Merida Negrete and the
Chancel Choir.
The flowers which beautify the sanctuary this morning are given to the glory of God
and in honor of our daughter, Ashley, and our grandsons, Christian, Noah, and Levi Bean
by Bob and Fran Cawthorne.
The Call to Worship is adapted from Hold Fast to What is Good by Beth Merrill Neel
and is used with permission.
The Prayer Shawl Ministry has provided shawls in the back of the Sanctuary. Should you
need physical warmth or spiritual comfort, please borrow one for today’s service. Feel free
to place it back into the basket as you exit the Sanctuary.
Reviving Civility—Exhibiting the Peace of Christ in a Chaotic Culture: What are some
Biblical, theological, and spiritual values that will help us bridge current polarities? How
do we balance our responsibility to be good citizens of our nation with our ultimate
allegiance to the kingdom of God? How can we model patterns of speech and behavior that
counter harmful and hateful patterns of speech and behavior? Can we be assertive without
being antagonistic or aggressive? The current sermon series will seek to answer some of
these questions. Other worship materials have been carefully selected to help illuminate
our path. Some, such as the litany of commitment and congregational response, will be
repeated each week.
