A heavy Fire spec boasts not only extremely high burst damage capability but an impressive sustained damage element as well, as long as the user is not afraid to use consumables such as Mana Rubies and Mana Potions. Five points here ensures things like Arcane Explosion and Polymorph are resisted less often, but these points are mainly a stepping stone to delve deeper in the arcane tree. ARCANE FOCUS 5/5 Picking up this talent lowers all the resists of your target by ten and reduces the threat of your Arcane spells by a great amount. The reduction in resists helps your spells land more often while the threat reduction assists in the times during raids that you must spam Arcane Explosion. With this talent at full, your Fireball takes a half a second less to cast. While this does not mean much in short fi ghts, over a long one this can add up to a great deal of extra damage.

This talents gives your Fire spells a 10% chance to stun your target for two seconds. This is a great boon in PVP as it gives you a chance to either cast another short casting time spell or gain some ground on your opponent.

Flame Throwing increases the casting range of all of your Fire spells by 6 yards. This comes in handy in PVP especially when your targets are constantly moving.

FLAME THROWING 2/2

Two points here grants a bonus 4% chance to score a critical strike with your Fire Blast and Scorch spells. Scorch is a great way to get those Ignites rolling.

Pyroblast deals a massive amount of damage on a single target. The drawback to this spell is the long casting time, but if you have Presence of Mind up or your target is Polymorphed the casting time really does not matter.

PYROBLAST 1/1

One point in Burning Soul gives you a 35% chance to lose no casting time while casting a Fire spell when taking damage. It also reduces the threat of all Fire spells by 15%, which is a necessity to this build, as the damage can spike a great amount.

BURNING SOUL 1/2

REQUIRES 20 POINTS IN FIRE TALENTSREQUIRES 20 POINTS IN FIRE TALENTS

Simple but powerful, Critical Mass increases the critical strike chance of your Fire spells by 6%. Ignites depend on crits to keep them up, so this talent is invaluable to a Fire Mage.

CRITICAL MASS 3/3

This instant cast spell deals heavy Fire damage in a small area around the caster and slows the movement speed of all affl icted for six seconds. A Flamestrike in combination with this spell is a lethal combination to any pack of enemies.

STRENGTHS OF THIS TEMPLATE

Quite simply put, the strength here lies in the ability to surprise your opponents with a massive amount of burst damage in PVP and keep Ignites rolling in PVE.

ROOM FOR FLEXIBILITY

If you wish, you can drop an undesired talent and put three points into Improved Scorch, allowing your raid to receive a 15% bonus to Fire damage.

EQUIPMENT

There are only two types of cloth you want as a Fire Mage: plus critical gear, and plus damage gear.

Cloth that increases your chance to score a critical strike will ensure your Ignites keep rolling and stay up. This is a necessity in PVE. Critical gear also gives your burst damage in PVP the ability to take down your opponent before they ever have a chance to receive a heal.

Stacking some plus damage gear never hurts, as it allows your spells to simply hit harder, but while collecting damage gear, always bear in mind your crit percent. While damage gear is good, the true power of Fire lies in critical strikes.

FINAL NOTES

Playing with Fire has its strengths and weaknesses. While you retain the ability to dish out an admirable amount of burst and PVE DPS, you must always be ready to replenish your mana via consumables or Evocation. Power comes with a price.

Improved Scorch increases the overall damage of all Fire damage from your raid, but only do this if no other Mage already has this talent.
