AT THE PHILIPPINE INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION CENTER

A Catholic Prayer Meeting of the LIGHT OF JESUS FAMILY

    May 19, 2013

CENTURIES ago, we used to hunt our food. Till our soil. Plant our

farms. Harvest our produce. Yep, our ancestors used

    their muscles constantly.

Today, the most strenuous thing we do is tap our

phones. Type on our computers. And press buttons

on the elevator. (People also jump to conclusions

    and carry a grudge.)

    Face it. You sit down

    for long stretches of

    the day. Every

    day! Sure, youmight get up

    to go to the

    restroom, water

    cooler, and canteen.

    But thats it.

    Your

    muscles pay

    the price for

    this constant

sitting. Your joints get stiff. Your muscles

get weak. And this is not because of

age! Its simply because youre not using

    your muscles.

Heres a law of the universe: What you

    dont use, you lose.

    Havent you noticed? People are

getting old at a young age.

Heres a fact: When you hit 50 years old,

you lose 1.5% of your muscle mass everysingle year. Thats scary.

This is the reason you nd old people

who cant even lift a glass of water. They

simply allowed their muscles to atrophy

    because they didnt use them.

    Have an energetic Feast today!

    May your dreams come true,

    BO SANCHEZ

    ThankYou,

    Ascension

FR. ALEX BALATBAT said lastSundays Gospel focused on ourmission while we are still on Earth.

He shared the story of amother whose son passed away.Fr. Alex celebrated the funeralMass. The mother did not join thefuneral rites, following their familyculture that mothers should not

join such rites. The day after theburial, Fr. Alex was surprised to seethe mother working in the gardeninstead of grieving.

She told him, I am thankfulthat I had time to be with my sonbefore he died. It is useless to spendthe day crying. Im still alive, and Ineed to work for my other childrenand grandchildren.

Fr. Alex pointed out weshould have the same mindset. After a trial, we must be ready tomove on and attend to what westill have to do. In the Gospel,we read that the angel told thedisciples-- who were looking up asJesus ascended into heaven-- not toworry because Jesus did not reallyleave them. They still had work

to do, and Jesus would send themthe Holy Spirit to guide them intheir mission.

We also still have a mission. The Feast of the Ascension is Jesusway of saying, I believe in you.Dont worry. I will come back, andwe will be together in Heaven.

Fr. Alex concluded that ifwe want to be in Heaven, now isthe time to practice living the lifein Heaven. With the guidance ofChrist, this world can already belike Heaven.

    -- Bella Estrella

And behold I am sending thepromise of my Father upon you; butstay in the city until you are clothedwith power from on high. Then heled them out as far as Bethany, raisedhis hands, and blessed them. As heblessed them he parted from them andwas taken up to heaven.

Eat Gods Food and Be Healed!By BO SANCHEZ

Following are excerpts from Talk 2: Eat of the new series, The Biggest Winner

    STEp 1:Fruitify Your Breakfast

The key is to eat yourfruits on an empty stomachand NOT to eat anything else

with themfor at least anhour after eating the fruits.Dont drink water for an hour, either, so you wont dilute thedigestive uids.

I follow the Bible whereGod said, I have given youevery plant with seeds on the

face of the earth and everytree that has fruit with seeds. This will be your food.(Genesis 1:29)

5 Wonderful GiftsThat Fruits Give Us

The best time to eat a fruitisnt after a meal, but before you eatanything. Reason: Because fruitsare easy to digest, they get stuckthere somewhere in the conveyor

belt of your digestive track, waitingfor the other more-difcult-to-digest food to get digested.

Fruits bless your body inve beautiful ways.

    1. More Water.Because fruits consist of

80% water. Yes, just like thehuman body. And fruits containthe best water.

HERES my main message:EatGods Food and Be Healed!

    Because food should beyour medicine.

How do I know? Becausethats what the Bible says

    Daniel 1:11-15Please test your servants

for ten days: Give us nothingbut vegetables to eat andwater to drink. Then compareour appearance with that ofthe young men who eat theroyal food. So he agreedto this and tested them for ten

    2. More Enzymes.Live enzymes are workers

that help you digest your food.Without enzymes, you cantabsorb the food into your cells.Without enzymes, you die.

Where are enzymesfound? Only in raw food, such as fresh fruits and rawvegetables. Heat in the cooking

    process kills the enzymes.

    3. More Fiber.Fruits are a natural source

of ber. Fiber will lower yourcholesterol and protect yourheart. Itll control your weight.

Itll cure constipation andimprove your digestion.

    4. More Nutrients. The most powerful youth

potion is fresh fruits and rawvegetables. Fruits delay theageing process. They delaythe wrinkling of skin andfalling hair. Fruits protect youfrom Alzheimers disease andweak bones (osteoporosis).Fruits strengthen youreyes, preventing maculardegeneration of the retina.

    Fruits are the realanti-

aging antidote.5. More Energy.Let me shock you: It

takes 1 to 3 days to digestmeat. But it takes only 30minutes to digest a fruit.

Your body consumes a lotof energy for thinking, walking, working, breathing, talking. But digestion consumes 80%of your total energy! Instead ofdigesting, you can now use allthat energy for other purposessuch as detoxifying, ghtinggerms, and healing.

days. At the end of the tendays they looked healthier andbetter nourished than any ofthe young men who ate theroyal food.

    Daniel and his three

friends, Shadrack, Meshack, and Abednego, were thehealthiest, most handsome guysin the gang.

The Daniel Program works! Why? Because health

isnt primarilly about medicine.Bottomline, health is

    about food.

Food is the master key to ahealthy body.

Do you want to beas young, and healthy, and

beautiful as Daniel? Id like toshare with you my version of the

Daniel Program. And it consists of just

Three Healing Habits.I believe that these three

powerful habits will changeyour life. Over time-- notinstantly-- they will healmany of the diseases inyour body.

AIM HIGH! Is this teaching on eang right hard to swallow? Bro. Bosays dont be discouraged. Just as you have to draw back the bow string

before you can launch an arrow, you have to move back and soon, Godwill launch you to your tness goal.

    Big WinnerTOM MEDINA was so

    busy in his export business

he hardly had time to rest.

    Working overtime, he

    lacked sleep. And since

    he was working so hard,

he pampered himself withfood, until he gained too

    much weight.

    Then, one day, he

    went for a medical checkup

    and the results showed he

    had colon cancer. He then

    underwent four surgeries.

    Afterwards, he decided

    to change his lifestyle. He

    changed his diet-- from

    fatty, meaty food to fruits

    and veggies. He exercised.

    And he shortened his

    working hours to have time

    for rest and relaxation.

    Last Sunday, he shared

at the Feast that he is a

    changed man-- he is now

    healthy and happy.

    STEp 2:Veggify Your Lunchand Dinner

My goal isnt to make youinto a vegetarian. My goal is tomake you a veg-lover. Heresthe key: Make vegetables yourMAIN dish for lunch and dinner.

I repeat: Im not askingyou to stop eating meat.

All Im asking is that you

make your veggies your maindish. Everything else shouldbe side dishes. Do this tinyadjustment, and it will give yougiant returns. Youll feel better.Youll feel stronger. Youll feelyounger. Youll have clearerskin. Youll lose weight (if youneed to lose weight). Youllhave more energy. Youll bemore beautiful.

Eat Raw Salad Every DayWhy salads?Enzymes are the life force of

the foodand of our body. Heresa fact that some doctors dont tellyou: One of the major reasons

many people are sick is becausewe lack enzymes. Enzymedeciency is the silent killer.

Why raw? Heat kills theenzymes in food. When we cookour food, we destroy almost allthe enzymes from the food.

Many Kinds of SaladsWhen you hear the word

salad, people automaticallythink of romaine lettuce, cucumber, and carrots.

Oh, there are so manyother salads that you can eat!

    Heres my suggestion:Ask

your mother or grandmother forlocal salad recipes.

For example, I loveeating a local seaweed calledlato. Visit the market and askfor it. Mix it up with somesliced onions. Yum. Its saltyenough, you dont need to putanything else.

My wife also likespreparingpaho (they looklike tiny green mangoes) andtomatoes. Pako is anothervegetable that I like.

And then of coursetalbos ng kamote (blanched)with eggplant andtomatoes and sh bagoong.

    Do the same thingwith kangkong.

    STEp 3:Organify Your Food

Primitivize your food.(Sorry, I like making up

    words.)Heres my belief:Many are

suffering from all sorts of sicknesstoday because of huge amountof processed food they consumeevery day.

So heres a principle: Ifman made it, minimize eating it.

You can prevent manydiseases if you minimize your

processed food.Heres why1. Almost Zero NutritionAlmost all the nutrition has

been wiped out by its process.Of course the packaging saysits enriched or fortied

because after stripping it ofnatural minerals, enzymes, trace

elements, and bersthey addsynthetic vitamins in it. Whichis nuts.

    2. Harmful ChemicalsAnd because food

    companies want to increase

their products shelf life, theyveloaded them with preservatives.

And have you everwondered what ingredients arein your hotdog, sausages, orluncheon meat?

    Regularly consumingprocessed meats can increase

the risk of diabetes by 19%,increase the risk of heart disease

by 42%, and increase the risk ofpancreatic cancer by 67%.

    3. Trans Fats andpartially Hydrogenated Oil

What are Trans Fats? They are manufactured fat. They are man-made, notGod-made. Theyre fat thatschemically created by a processcalled partial hydrogenation.

You eat Trans Fats whenyou eat french fries, donuts, mufns and cookies.

    4. Sugar, Sweeteners, andHigh Fructose Corn Syru

The Bible says, Doyou like honey? Dont eat toomuch, or it will make you sick!(Proverbs 25:11)

Do you know how muchsugar is in a can of softdrinks?10 sugar cubes per can.

Even the diet soda is nota better choice because ofarticial sweetenerswhich I

believe can be worse than sugar.5. Refned GrainsFilipinos love white rice. But white rice has been

stripped of its ber-rich outerlayer. This means it has beenstripped of all B vitamins, iron, zinc, magnesium, vitamin E, andselenium. Eat brown rice.

Eat the Best Food inthe World

You can be healthy.God wants you to be healthy.Change your healthand

    your lifenow!

Thank You, Superwoman!By JASMIN MAY A. GARCIA

    GREAT mothers are Gods

    blessings to us. Some mothers

    choose to be career women

    while there are some who

    choose to be homemakers. My

    mom excels in both.

When I was in elementary, my

mom used to have this minimarket store. She woke up at 3

a.m. to go to the market to buy

the stuff she would sell in her

store. She did this every day

    for nearly ten years.

    When I was in high

    school, my mom decided to

    open another small business--

    a carinderia, which she

    managed for six years.

Even as she worked, shehas not neglected us-- my dad,

    my siblings and me.

    Yes, shes a super woman.

    Superwoman appears

only in times of need but my

    mom is always serving us,

    always making sure were

okay. She might not give us

the best in material things, but

she gives us the best of her.

I always feel I am Godsfavorite because He has given

us our mom. In behalf of my

    two siblings, thank You, Lord,

    for our mother.

    Thank you for our

    mother who knows how to

    scold us when its necessary

to correct us. A mother who

    taught us to love others.

    A mother whos been

    our cheerleader. A mother

    who wont judge us

    whatever we do. She who

    keeps on understanding us,

    supporting us, forgetting

    herself but never her

husband and children. She who makes us realize

    that You, oh God, are

    so real.

    To our superwoman,

    its payback time. We are

    now all professionals because

of you and Dad. We will

    always be grateful. We love

    you forever.

She Combs My Hair...I Feel So Embarrassed

    By CLOTY VALERIO

SHE is called Corie, Coy,or Cor by her relatives, co-

    workers, and friends. But

    her real name is Corazon.

To us she is Mama, Ma, and

    to her husband, Cor, Coy,

    Ma, or even Bai. Sounds

really cool for me that my

father calls her Bai, coz Bai

    is likePare.

    Ive been inspired

    by Bro. Bo Sanchezs

blog titled Why GodInvented Mothers, a tribute

    to his mother Sis. Pilar

    Sanchez, who passed away

    last April 30.

    Like Bro. Bo, I so

    love my mother. She is

    my Mama, my One and

    Only Mother. The one who

    carried me for nine months,

who cried over me when I

    was diagnosed as suffering

    from pyloric stynosis nine

days after I was born. It

    was a condition that caused

    severe projectile non-

    bilious vomiting caused by

    narrowing of the opening

from the stomach to the rst

part of the small part on

    the intestine.

    Mama understood me

    during my darkest days of

my adolescence period.Even today she is patient

with me even as I ght with

    her over little things. She

    combs my hair-- until now

that I am already 22 years

old-- in front of her friends

    and co-workers. I feel

    so embarrassed.

    Mama has served as

    my alarm clock every single

day of my life until this time

that I am already working, waking me up with her

    shrill, irritating voice.

    Mama is my doctor

and my nurse at the same

time when I am sick. She is

    my teacher, enemy, friend,

    counselor, tutor, caregiver.

There is so much to say

    about mothers especially

my Mom. But one thing for

    sure: a mother will always

be a mother. Even if there

    are times we dont get

    along. I really really love

    you, Mama!

    I thank you Ma for

    teaching me virtues, for

    introducing the Lord to me,

    and for teaching me what

    this life really is. Thanks

    for being there always and

    forever with me.

    MINISTRIES

Easy Does It!By KRISTINE MUTUC photos by RAMEL ROBLES

FIRST, we asked the participants to writetheir name on the ller notebook we gaveeach one of them.

And they did. Then, we told them, See? You

can write!Thats how we started the seminar we

calledEasy Creative Writing for the Lord, which our Feast Media Ministry held at theValle Verde Country Club, Pasig City, lastMay 11.

Attended by 65 writing enthusiasts, theseminar was about knowing your grammar, getting over writers block, thinking aboutyour topic, composing the best title, andvarious dos and donts of creative writing.Media Ministry Head Chay Santiagofacilitated the event as the main speaker.

The seminar impressed upon theparticipants that youll nd creative writingeasy once you conquer your qualms aboutwriting. So the seminar included exercisesto make the participants comfortable in usingthe correct words, phrases, and sentencesto express their thoughts and tell stories--especially about blessings and wonders

from the Lord. Yes, to write creatively forGods glory.

May we request for a repeat of theseminar, one participant, Belen Abalos, wrote us, but for two days to allow moretime for the workshop.

Lets have regular writing practicesessions, suggested Imelda Ferrer.

Okay, we heard you. Watch forour announcement on the next seminar--for the Lord!

    We Are FamilyBy ELSIE LAURO

WHEN I was in high school in Cebu, I

was a member of Youth for Christ (YFC)

in our school. I used to join a Bible studygroup called Household composed of

    ve to ten students.

We met every weekend to read the

Bible and reect on a selected passage.

I was thankful as I learned more about

God, while having fun in the company of

my Household members. But some good

things never last. We graduated from high

school, and we also graduated from our

    Household meetings.

I didnt expect that I would have

that sense of fulllment again in a

    similar gathering.

Last January, the Feast launched a

campaign -- encouraging attendees to join

a Connect Group. I signed up and chose to

join the CG led by Sis. Cheryl Yap.

In the CG, I found Household again.

Like in the Household, I met with my CG

once a week. We read Bible passages and

reected on them. We shared problems,

dreams, learnings, and yes, blessings. We

had dinner together, shared jokes, and

    laughed a lot.

And our sharing helped me open

up to God and surrender to Him my

burdens. Life has again become beautifulfor me.

My CGmates treated me like I was a

superstar. They helped me to be myself, to

keep my feet rm on the ground, and to be

the best that I can be.

Our three months of regular CG

meetings ended last April 29, a Monday.

And it was Sis. Ches birthday. She treated

us to dinner at McDonalds, Greenbelt.

And we surprised her with a big

birthday card with all our messages, a

cake, and a bouquet of owers.

We also asked the manager at

McDonalds and the crew to join us in

singing her a birthday song. Fries and ice

cream overowed as one of her former

CG members offered a big sum for

    our celebration.

We were all happy to make our

spiritual mother the happiest girl that day.

With our CG, we started as new

friends, but we eventually became like

family as we treated one another in special

loving ways. I couldnt ask for more.

regimen, I jog in AyalaTriangle, Makati. One day,

before jogging, I left mybags in a mall baggagecounter nearby. I just

brought my water jug andthe baggage claim stub with

me while I jogged. After30 minutes of sweating itout, I did some stretching, grabbed my water jug, andleft Ayala Triangle.

I was already in the mall, about to claim my bags from the

baggage counter, when I realizedmy claim stub was missing.Uh oh

The mall is about 10 minutes awayfrom Ayala Triangle-- you have to gothrough an underpass, a foot bridge, and afew buildings along the way. Where on earthdid I drop that stub? It was only a small pieceof orange paper, softly laminated. It couldhave own to another street already, or musthave been run down by a car, or hidden in a

    bush somewhere.There was a P300-ne for a lost claim

stub. Yikes. I didnt want to pay the ne,so I traced my steps back to Ayala Trianglehoping against hope I would nd the stub. Iwas looking for a piece of paper on the busystreet of Ayala. I felt awkward for a while,

but then I started to whisper a prayer, Lord, show me that claim stub. Please!

I walked on the foot bridge. No signof any orange paper. I walked down the

underpass and still no orange paper. I passedby a few buildings and still no orange paper.I began to worry. What if someone

picked up the stub... and claimed my bags?Nevertheless, I continued searching. I was

already back in AyalaTriangle. I searched andsearched... until I felt sillydoing so.

Enough, I toldmyself, and I decided togo back to the mall. As Istarted to walk back, thereit was-- a piece of orange

paper on a bed of greengrass. I walked towards thepaper and picked it up.

Answered prayer!I found the claim stub!Oh, and did I mentionthat this happened duringnight time?
