2009—JULY 3 THE FAIRVIEWAN -100 YEARS

It can now be said that our year-long celebration of 100 years of the existence of the Fairview Baptist Church has officially begun. It began on Sunday June 28, 2009 in the 10:00 AM Morning Worship Service. Current and former members of the church gath-ered along with an impressive number of officials from the Local and State levels of Government from the Lt. Governor, who was the Governor during that day due to Governor Henry’s absence from the State, down to City Councilmen. Those two levels of Government were joined by County Government officials along with State Senators and Representatives. Not to overlook anyone, one of the prominent Dis-trict Judges was also present to worship with the Fairview Family. Among the former members who returned for this special occasion were pro-claimers of the Gospel including Sons in the ministry of Pastor Reed. One of Pas-tor’s sisters came from California also to join with us. There were several other for-mer members who came from far and near to join in the worship celebration as well. Pastor Reed prepared and deliv-ered a special Founder’s Day Message which he entitled “100 Years of Implementing the Great Commission”, using Matthew 28:18-20 as his text. He said in his message, that the faith-ful band of believers that gathered in that Little Red Barn on 5th & Kellam Street a hundred years ago in 1909 formed the church to carry out the Great Commission, and were faithful in doing so. He told the story of how God blessed the church to grow. One of the most moving portions of his message was when he told of how the first of the permanent church homes for Fairview was built. Each brick that went into the building was made and purchased by the members, and it took seven years from the time that the foundation was laid until it was completed and the church family was able to move into the new facility. Fairview’s Praise Team was joined by two of the established Musical Aggregations in the Church in the per-son of the Adult Choir and The Singing Churchmen provid-ing inspirational music to prepare the congregation for the spoken word. The Holy Spirit moved within the spirit and soul of the musical groups and they poured more of them-selves into their performances than they would routinely do. Normally the Benediction to the worship services is given from the Alter within the church. This time how-ever it was given on the outside of the church. That was because Pastor wanted to unveil a new plaque commemo-rating the historic event. A special lapel pin replicating the plaque was created for the present membership. You can

see additional pictures of this plaque in the collage of pic-tures contained on the back cover of this issue of the Fair-viewan. Every member is urged to purchase and wear one of these Lapel Pins throughout the remainder of the year as the celebration continues. After the Benediction was given, the large gather-ing moved into the Donald Burns Fellowship Hall for an old

fashioned dinner prepared by the entire member-ship. Each Ministry of the church was asked to provide a dish for the meal and also each member was asked to provide another dish to bring to the church to insure that enough food was available to feed a large gathering. The collage of pictures from the event is on the back page of this issue of the July Fairviewan. I have no idea of the number of persons fed, but my best estimate would be somewhere between 500 and 600. Every space within the Fellowship Hall was utilized where people could sit down to eat including the many classroom areas. To say that there was an abun-dance of food would be an understatement. Sister Willa Nero and the Culinary Ministry along with Brother Havered Hill did an outstanding job in seeing that the large gathering was fed in a timely manner. Kudos to them, and to any others who

assisted them. This Founders Day Worship service would be memorable under any circumstances, but it was particularly memorable because it marked the celebration of 100 years of faithful service of the Fairview Family as a body of born again believers, whose mission when founded was to carry out the mandates of the Great Commission and who re-mains faithful today to that command from our Lord & Sav-ior Jesus Christ. WOMEN’S MINISTRY 2009 MISSION ACTION FAIR On Saturday, June 20th, the Fairview Women’s Ministry utilized the 2009 Mission Action Fair to celebrate our Ministry’s rich history and heritage. The theme: “For A Century: Women of God On A Mission, United For Christian Matur-ity” (Ephesians 4:12-13) The Praise and Worship Committee set the spiritual tone for the morning’s celebration. Sis. Hattie Marsh extended the greetings and Sis. Doretha Haskins expressed the purpose/origin of the Mission Fair. Various community service projects adopted by each of the five Mission Groups were on display for viewing. Throughout the year, the ministry provides services to the Infant Crisis Center, Emerson Alternative School, Salvation Army, the City Rescue Mission, Grace Living Centers (2 locations), and the Lennie M. Tolliver Alternative Center. Each Mission Group was recognized during Who’s Here by Sis. Erika Alamah. We were also elated by the presence of our Direc-tor Emeritus, Sis. Lottie Douglas and her daughter, Sis. Rita Douglas-McClarty.

Members presented “Looking Back: Our Legacy, Our Heroes 1913 – 2009” highlighting the ser-vice and accomplishments of our past WMS/WMU Directors:

Sis. Maggie Bruce - Organized the WMS in 1913, First President. Succeeded by Sis. Josie L. Barbee, Sis. Christine H. Provo, Sis. Mattie Hildreth, Sis. Rosie Jackson, Sis. Sadie Baker (1949-1950), Sis. Flora McGlory (1951-1954), Sis. Roberta Hildreth (1955-1966), Sis. Mildred J. King (1967-1985), Sis. Lottie Douglas (1986-1997), Sis. Linda Edwards (1998-2002), and Sis. Mary Jones (2003-Present)

Prior to the presentation, voices were lifted in song “We’re Looking Back” (tune of an old gospel song: “Take Me Back”). The song was written especially for this occasion by our 1st Vice President, Sis. Delores Stephens. Words of encouragement and appreciation were given by Director Jones. The day was abundantly blessed as we closed the occasion with prayer and fellowship.

B reast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosis among African American women, and among women nationwide. Studies have shown that when African American women follow the same preventive measures as white women, their death rates from breast cancer are very

similar. However, African American women are more likely than white women to be diagnosed at later stages of the disease. One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. A screening mammogram is an effective tool that medical providers have to detect breast cancer. It is well known that if breast can-cer is detected in its early stages, then there is a much better chance of response to treatment and cure: however, Oklahoma ranks amongst the lowest states in the nation for women over 40 to have had a

screening mammogram. With support from the Susan G. Komen Foundation, the OU Cancer Institute and OU Breast Institute (located 825 NE 10th St.) will be able to offer free mammograms for women that meet the following criteria: • between 40 years of age and 65 years of age, • younger than 40 years of age with a family history of breast cancer, • ineligible for Medicare, • resident of Oklahoma, and • less than 200% of the federal poverty level, with no insurance. The ability to provide this screening service will fill a critical need for an underserved population in the Central Oklahoma Affili-ate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation. If you are interested in obtaining a mammogram or would like more information to see if

you qualify, please call 405-271-8001, Ext. 48596 or 405-271-4514

5th ANNUAL MEN’S MINISTRY EMPOWERMENT

CONFERENCE

The weekend of June 5th & 6th 2009, proved to be an unforgettable one. That weekend the Men’s Ministry of Fairview Baptist Church held its 5th Empower-ment Conference. The theme for the conference this year was “Christian Men, Implementing the Great Com-mission.” The text used was Matthew 28:18-20. Our special guest this year was Bro. Harold L. Sim-mons, National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc., Na-tional Laymen President. Friday Evening: The first night of the conference consisted of a pe-riod of devotion and a banquet/supper. The meal for the banquet/supper was provided by Fairview’s Cu-linary Ministry, headed by Sister Willa Nero. The food was delicious and the service superb. The menu consisted of baked chicken, dirty rice, broccoli, hot rolls, a salad, dessert, and coffee and punch. The meal was great, but it really prepared us for the spiritual meal to come. Just before our speaker of the night was presented, the Fairview Singing Church-men blessed the large gathering with a song that they had prepared just for the occasion. Pastor Reed presented our speaker and President Simmons came forward to challenge us with a mes-sage lifted from the scripture used for the theme. What a message. Bro. Simmons was in rare form as he challenged us to be men who would step up to the plate and become actively involved in imple-

menting the Great Commission. All of the Fairview Ministerial Staff was in attendance except two, and there were other ministers in the audience. Those who God had called to proclaim His gospel were more excited about the message than the large lay audience present. Saturday Morning: Saturday morning began with a continental break-fast, followed by a praise and worship period. Fair-view’s Men’s Ministry Director, Bro. Charles Hardrick, welcomed and introduced the facilitators for the day. State Laymen President Eddie G. Tay-lor, Sr. drove down from Tulsa to fellowship with us on Saturday. We welcomed his presence, thankful that he could be with us. The first of the three facilitators was Rev. Harvey Wallace, Pastor of the Mt. Rose Baptist Church. He lectured on “The nature of the work which Christ has en-trusted to His Church.” That work revolves around two ar-eas as stated in Matthew 28:19 and that is teaching and baptizing. Next, Rev. Larry Wood lectured on “The extent of

the work Christ has committed to His Church” as stated in Matthew 28:20a. The teaching consisted of all things that Christ had com-manded his disci-ples to do. Rev. Woods presently serves as the Min-ister of Outreach

at the Faith Memorial Baptist Church. Continued on Page 7

2009—JULY 7 THE FAIRVIEWAN -100 YEARS

Last but certainly not least came the National Laymen President who had the task of ex-pounding on the subject of “The en-couragement to the work which Christ has en-trusted to His Church.” In Mat-thew 28:20b, Christ reminds us that as we evangelize in our attempt to make new disci-ples, He will be with us, even unto the end of the world. In summary, the Empowerment Conference did just what it was intended to do, empower us as men as we implement the Great Commission in our mission field. It successfully fulfilled the task of strengthening our resolve to do God’s will for our lives, as we labor in His vineyard. Roughly 65 men and boys were fed spiritual food during the two-day conference. I personally feel empowered through the Holy Spirit to do better in the work God has prepared for me. I am sure that I am not alone in feeling this way.

Special thanks goes out to Bro. Hardrick for his fine leader-ship and to each person who helped make the conference a success. A very special thanks goes out to our beloved Pas-tor for his support, love, and care for the brethren.

W.O.W. MIDNIGHT MUSICAL

First  of  all,  let  me  say  if  you  didn't  make  it  to  the W.O.W. Midnight Musical, you missed a phenomenal event in the church house.  When I first walked into the sanctuary I was hit with a wall of energy.  Surprisingly the energy did not stop until after midnight.  Every performer was magnifi‐cent and inspirational.  They all brought their own flavor to this affair.     It was  astounding how many  young people  attended, especially in today's society when it's not exactly cool to be at church on Friday night.    It  is my belief that this event  is the first step toward changing the way children and young adults see the church.  What I mean is, we all know church is a place of worship and reverence.     This musical showed that we can sing, dance & have a good time at church, and we did, although I can not possi‐bly  pick  out  my  favorite  group  of  the  night.    I  will  say that the first praise & worship team set a standard that was met for the rest of the evening.   Not  to mention  the  Jesus Puppet whose  theatrics and intensity  I  always  enjoy.    In  closing  I  would  like  to  say thanks  to all  the  choirs  that participated and  to everyone that came to share this experience with Fairview.

“100 “100 YYEARSEARS OFOF I IMPLEMENTINGMPLEMENTING THETHE G GREATREAT C COMMISSIONOMMISSION””

The Written History – Part VII

“Let the Lord Do It” “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own under-standing. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.”—Proverbs 3:5-6. (“Let the Lord Do It” was the theme selected by Pastor J. A. Reed, Jr., to lead the Fairview Church Family into a building project which, upon comple-tion, resulted in a modern office com-plex and a magnificent place of wor-ship of which few could compare. The beauty and serenity of the purple and white sanctuary created a sense of reverence and majesty. Pastor Reed could say as Solomon, “I have surely built You an exalted house, and a place for You to dwell in forever.” - I Kings 8:12) (Longtime Fairview member, Brother Donald E. Burns, served as

Building Chairman for the building project.) During 1990 much is owed to the leadership of Building Chairman, Don-ald E. Burns for keeping the project on track and assuring its completion. While the building was going up, the church program continued to grow. On August 19, 1990, a grand pa-rade marched from the Ralph Ellison Library (at NE 23rd Street and Martin Luther King Avenue) to the new church sanctuary and Pastor Reed was pre-sented the keys. The first worship ser-vice was held for the Fairview Family

and Pastor Reed preached the dedica-tory sermon entitled, “Rejoice in the Lord.” A week of celebration was held with churches from all over the com-munity and state. (The new sanctuary had a seating capacity of 1500, which includes a choir stand of approximately 150. The first funeral that was held in the new sanctuary was that of Sister Willie Woody, affectionately called Mama Woody. The homegoing service was held August 25, 1990. The first bap-tisms were Kameshia Murrell Woods and Shayla Antwine. Both were per-formed by Pastor John A. Reed, Jr.) During the first year of operation in the new facility, the East Zion Dis-trict held it’s annual revival and the community was blessed by the annual presentation of “The Messiah” by the Baton and Keyboard Club. (People from far and near would come to tour Fairview’s new facility. Many requested the use of the sanctu-ary for weddings and the Church mem-bership graciously shared the building for funerals, community and denomina-tional meetings. God truly blessed the efforts of His people as they submitted to the leader-ship of the shepherd as he followed the leadership of the Holy Spirit—”Let the Lord Do It!”)

BY M. PATTERSON, EDITOR

In observance of Fairview’s 100th Anniversary Celebration, each month of the year, the staff and contributing writers will endeavor to inform the readers of the history of this great church. It will be done through two meth-ods: by printing excerpts from the current written history and by interviewing long-time members to collect their memories of people and events during their tenure at Fairview. These two presentations will be entitled, “The Written History” and “An Eye Witness Account,” respectively. (Any additions made to these reports will be indicated by parenthesis). At the end of the year, this information will be compiled into one document and will be placed in the church archives.—M. Patterson, Editor

QUESTION: What activities did your family members partici-pate in? ANSWER: Verna was a lead singer in the choir and teaches Sunday School and we all par-ticipated in church activities. QUESTION: Did your family purchase bricks for the Sanctu-ary? ANSWER: No, but I do have two bricks from the old Sanctu-ary. QUESTION: What are some of your earliest memories of Fair-view ? ANSWER: In the 1930’s Rev. Fairly’s preaching made the members shout. During that time Mother Hall, who was in her 80’s, would get happy and prance around the Sanctuary like she was a 20 year old. In the old building, the sanctuary would sway and swing from the shouting and, out of fear that the church would collapse into the basement, Pastor Fairly had steel pillars installed to stabilize the building. I remember in this neighbor-hood that if you were doing any wrong thing and Rev. Fairly appeared, you would stop im-

mediately until he was out of sight. He walked through the neighborhood every day. I recall that in the 1930’s the church was in debt and faced foreclosure and Bro. John An-glin, Sr. paid the debt to prevent the foreclosure. He is remem-bered as saying that “if this was my home I would do the same.” Brother Anglin worked at Veazy Drug, downtown main street, where he walked to work everyday. QUESTION: Who were some of the church leaders during that time? ANSWER: Deacon A. W. Ayers, who was church treas-urer; Deacon Kinnion; Deacon Hildreth; Deacon Bo Baker; Deacon Isaiah Williams; Dea-con Hunnicutt; Deacon Sidney Sanders; Deacon Bozie Jones; Dr. J.W. Sanford, Sr., who was the president of Langston Uni-versity at the time; and Deacon Warner.

Renowned Author to Preach at Fairview DR. BILL BURWELL, JR., author of the book Sho Nuff! - Confronting the Controversies, will be

the 10:00a.m. morning messen-ger at Fairview on Sunday, July 26. Dr. Bill Burwell is a for-mer Black nationalist who was converted to Christianity in 1978, after serving as co-founder, professor, and chair-man of the Afro-American Stud-ies department at California State University, Northridge, for

ten years. Leaving his pursuit of the PhD degree at the University of Southern California, and re-signing his tenured position at the university in 1981, Dr. Burwell became a full-time seminarian pursuing the Master of Divinity Degree at Talbot Theological Seminary in La Mirada California, where after assisting in the development of a Mi-nority Ministers Program; he briefly joined the faculty teaching at both the graduate and under-graduate level. After organizing and serving as Pastor-Teacher of the First Berean Christian Church in Los Angeles for eight years, Dr. Bur-well left the pastorate and embarked upon the unique ministry of a full-time teaching evangelist. He addresses such controversial issues as: "Is the 'Full Gospel Baptist Church' truly Baptist, or is it Pentecostalism in disguise? Is the growing

trend towards women serving as preachers and pastors biblical? Is the 'mega-church mania' that is sweeping the country doctrinally sound?” Over the past seventeen years he, with his faithful wife Kathy at his side, has traveled more than a million miles in the USA, the Virgin Is-lands, and Germany serving as Christian educa-tion consultant and lecturer to dozens of local Baptist district associations, state and national conventions.

2009—JULY 13 THE FAIRVIEWAN -100 YEARS

Dear Patron: We greet you in the glorious name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! We are celebrating a historic event at Fairview, one that few churches in the Oklahoma City area have experi-enced. Fairview is observing its 100th year of service! This year will be spent remembering those early Christians who organized this fellowship of faith in the year of 1909. Members, together with friends, who, through their love for this church, made many sacrifices to sus-tain this fellowship for a century. The memory and honor of those whose prayer that the Fairview Baptist Church Family would some day realize her first century of Christian service has been answered! For 100 years, Fairview has followed the commands of Christ as set forth in the Great Commission, “Go ye there-fore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.” (Matthew 28:19-20)

We are putting together a CENTENNIAL ANNIVERSARY SOUVENIR JOURNAL to serve as a testament as well as commemoration of the ministry of Fairview and its impact in the lives of its members, the community, state, nation and uttermost parts of the world. The Journal will chronicle Fairview’s 100-year existence and include photos, greetings, remembrances and memorials of all those that have, in some way, been a part of this jour-ney. We consider you to be an important part of Fairview’s history and, therefore, want YOU to be included in this Historical Journal! Because of the multiplicity of persons that have been a part of this great church, we expect a record number of requests for inclusion so we recommend that you reserve your space early! A form with details for listing is included. Select a full page and receive a complimentary copy of the Journal.

A number of other observances have been scheduled to commemorate this great event. On Sunday, June 28, we celebrated FOUNDER’S DAY. In August we will have a CENTENNIAL PARADE. On November 15, the Fairview Music Ministry will sponsor a CENTENNIAL REUNION MUSICAL. We will hold our CENTENNIAL BANQUET on November 20, and finally, we will close out the year with our CENTENNIAL CHURCH ANNIVER-SARY AND HOMECOMING CELEBRATION on December 6, 2009.

For additional information or details on any of these events, call the church office at (405) 232-1621. Specific questions regarding the Souvenir Journal may be directed to [email protected]. In His Service, J. A. Reed, Jr., Senior Pastor Clearon Coffey, 100th Anniversary Celebration Chairperson

P.S.: Ads should be submitted no later than August 31, 2009, to guarantee placement. Use the ad form that is included in this issue.

O nce more we do greet you in the Perfect, Power-ful, Matchless, and Eternal Name of Our Lord &

Savior Jesus The Christ. To say that this is a busy time of the year for everyone at Fairview would be an under-statement. As born again Baptist Believers, God gener-ally does not use anyone who is not already heavily in-volved in His work. I strongly believe that if you are committed to and have a desire to serve the Master, The Holy spirit will give you the time and the resources to do that. We just have to trust Him to supply all of our needs as He has promised us he would. We serve a great God. So great that not only does he supply our needs, but the Psalmist has said that He will give us some of the delights of our hearts. To me, those “delights” are not necessarily needs. Most of them are wants. In a recent bible lesson, Pastor Reed taught us, that if we are obedi-ent, God gives us just a little bit of Heaven while we are here on earth. He can do that you know. What a God we serve.

East Zion District Banquet Men we call you to action once more. We recently re-ceived our allocation of tickets for our East Zion District Banquet which will be held the evening of Friday Au-gust 7, 2009. Once again it will be held at the Clarion Meridian Hotel, which is on south Meridian Avenue. Normally the tickets are $25.00, but Pastor Reed has authorized us to sell them for $15.00 to any member of Fairview Baptist Church. If you are writing a check, those checks should be made payable to Fairview Bap-tist Church. From the Men’s Ministry, contact Brother Walter Ellison or yours truly to purchase the tickets. See Sister Linda Edwards on the Distaff side to purchase tickets. We do not have an unlimited supply and once the allocation that we have is sold, we will not be able to get any more. So please, pretty please, do not wait until the last moment to get tickets if you are planning to buy them. Purchase them now so that you can be assured of getting them at the discounted price.

Men’s Empowerment Conference Just as I had indicated in the June issue of the Fair-viewan, the Men’s Ministry Empowerment Conference was just awesome. Our special guest, National Laymen President Harold L. Simmons had the attendees spell-bound on both Friday night as Keynote Banquet/Supper

Speaker and on Saturday he did not disappoint as one of the Facilitators as he expounded the theme of the Con-ference. A more comprehensive and complete report can be found elsewhere in this issue of the Fairviewan with accompanying photos.

Choir Robes On behalf of our Music Department I was asked to urge those men who are part of one of our Church Choirs to be advised that you can start paying the cost of the new choir robes at this time. As a matter of fact you are urged to do so. If you are unable to pay the full cost, you may make payments toward that cost. Please con-tact Sister Clara Von Finley for complete details at this time.

100 Year Souvenir Book Also for those of you who would be interested on work-ing on one of the committees that is responsible for put-ting the 100 year Commemorative Souvenir Book to-gether, contact Sister Maeleatha Patterson. She would be delighted to hear from you and I can assure you she would have a job for you to do. I want to thank you once more for your tremendous sup-port of the Ministry and the things that it endeavors to do in service to God. We would just ask, that if you are not actively involved with the ministry, that you would be-come active. You are already a member. The question is, are you actively utilizing the gifts that God has blessed you with in support of the Ministry? If you are a born again, committed Christian, God is on your side. Are you on His side? Scripture for the month: For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eter-nal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

2009—JULY 16 THE FAIRVIEWAN -100 YEARS

The Angel Tree Organization sponsored a weekend of learning, fun and recreation, and experiencing another phase of life, for twelve youth who are members of that organization the weekend of June 11, 12, & 13. The young people were hosted by the Camp Burge Youth & Adolescent Development Foundation Inc (CBYADF). This foundation consists of a Board of Directors under the Chairmanship of Bennie Surratt. The Oklahoma Missionary Baptist State Convention is the Parent Organization of the CBYADF.

This was the second consecutive year that Camp Burge has hosted the youth from The Angel Tree Organization. The Angel Tree Organization is a part of the State Prison Ministry of the OMBSC, where Donna Thompson serves as Prison Ministry Director. The Children of Angel Tree youngsters are dependents of prison inmates.

The CBYADF provides Camp Counselors, Instruc-tors, Mentors, and other staff personnel such as Cooks and Medical Support personnel. The camp-ers range in age from 8 to 11 years of age and in addition to various recreational activities including hiking, biking, fishing, volleyball, and basketball, they are instructed in areas such as Life Skills, Arts & Crafts, and Bible Study. They are also given les-sons in the art of catching fish. The boys and girls are taught separately during the Bible Study. There are periods of worship and meditation in the Camp Burge Chapel available on site. Rest periods are given both during the morning and evening peri-ods where the campers are given nutritional snacks. They are given breakfast, lunch, and sup-per daily.

The outing continues to grow in effectiveness and another three-day session is planned for 2010. The Angel Tree Organization and the CBYADF combine their experiences and knowledge from the previ-ous sessions to improve upcoming sessions.

The Angel Tree Organization is responsible for se-lecting the camp participants and Donna Thomp-son, State Prison Ministry Director, is the point per-son for having a child that you know is eligible to participate in the camp considered for becoming a participant. All staff people volunteer their time and talents to make this outing a success. The An-gel Tree Organization and the CBYADF wants to

thank all those who participated in this worthy effort to add to the molding of the lives of the young peo-ple who participated. For those who may be inter-ested, you are urged to join with the others of us in not only this event, but other events and activities sponsored by the CBYADF. There is an urgent need for your support of future events, for our budget does not come close to supplying enough funds to do all of the things that we do. Your volun-tary service is critical and crucial to any successful endeavor that the organization is able to achieve.

Fairview Baptist was well represented among those who volunteered their time and talent to assist in the weekend of activity enjoyed by the Angel Tree Organization campers. We salute the following Fairview Members. Sisters Sandra Holloway, Sarah Cudjoe, Hattie Marsh, Barbara Chandler and Delores Stephens. These ladies constituted the dis-taff side rendering service from Fairview. They served as Instructors and Camp Counselors during the session. Yours truly was one of the Bible In-structors for the young men who were in atten-dance. I along with the ladies experienced a tre-mendous blessing from the Holy Spirit for render-ing our service. We are thankful for those from Fair-view who served and are hopeful that we will have more Fairview members volunteer in the future. Normally Sister Linda Edwards would have been among that delegation rendering service, but she became ill shortly before the camp dates. We are asking that those of you who would serve and have the necessary skills to do so, please prayerfully consider being with us as Instructors and Counsel-ors, and other Staff Positions next year when the camp is held again.

The CBYADF is still looking for a full time Camp Di-rector. If you are interested in this position or need any information about the camp and its agenda, you may contact Board Chairman Bennie Surratt at 405 602-2091 or mobile 405 640-8231.

Again, The Angel Tree Organization and the CBYADF extend its sincere thanks to all of you for your help and your support. C. Meldon Hardrick, Staff Reporter

2009—JULY 17 THE FAIRVIEWAN -100 YEARS

"Hi, my name is Victoria Cole. I participated in the State Congress, which was held at the New Zion Baptist Church for the youth. The adults were at Greater Mount Olive. When we arrived every morning at New Zion, we immediately had devotion. Then they broke us up into groups. I was with the 13-15 year olds. My teacher was named Pastor McDaniel. He was so funny. He taught us the difference between love and lust. He taught us what agape love means. It is the type of love that God has for us. Pastor McDaniels also put us into groups of 5 to see who displayed good team work. After class we went out for lunch. Lunch was great!!! We ate until 2:00pm. After lunch we had choir rehearsal. We had the best choir teacher ever. That would be the one and only Mrs. Shree Walter. She made everyone put their cell phones on a table so that we wouldn't be texting (She knows how we are!). Fairview got 1st place for having over 50 total people attend the State Congress.

I enjoyed seeing the big smile on Pastor Reed and Pas-tor Walters' face. If you didn't go, I advise you to go next time."

Thanks goes out to Pastor Reed, Pastor Curtis, Sis Curtis, and the parents for helping this come together so well.

Be Blessed Submitted by Victoria Cole and Brother James Tobler

The week of June 8-11, 2009 proved an exciting week for the youth of Fairview Baptist Church. On that week, 20+ of our Fairview youth participated in this year’s Congress of Christian Education. Following is a comprehen-sive take on the events of the week from one of our most faithful youth, Ms. Victoria Cole.

JUNE 2009

But He saves the needy from the sword, From the mouth of the mighty, and from their hand, and injustice shuts her mouth. So the poor have hope, and injustice shuts her mouth. (Job 5:15-16)
