Kalamkari is the craft of painted and printed fabrics, developed both for decoration and religious ornamentation. The practice involves pen-painted or block printed fabrics, and is practiced till today. The unique art is used to make beautiful sarees and wall decorations.

Uppada Sari is a sari style woven in Uppada Village of East Godavari district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is located 16 km from Kakinada.

The Ponduru Khaddar is a handloom Khadi variety that is produced by the villagers in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh. it is located at a distance of 17 km from Srikakulam.

Lakka Bommalu are traditional toys that depict the rich cultural heritage of Andhra Pradesh. These wooden carved toys are coated with lacquer and then designs are painted on the toys with vegetable dyes.

Kondapalli toys are lightweight, colourful toys made out of soft punki wood. The figures are coated with lime and then varnished and painted in bright attractive colours. The style is warm, realistic and the faces of the toys are highly expressive. Toys are made to resemble animals, Gods and human characters.

Venkatagiri Sarees have graceful strands of gold all over. These sarees are available in cotton and silk, with pure silver zari and brocade designs in the border. The sarees have pleasant colours with golden dots, leaves, parrots or simple geometric designs used as motifs.

V E N K ATA G I R I S A R E E S

Narsapur produces a special type of lace made with thin threads and woven with thin stainless steel crochet needles of varying sizes. The lace work is available in different colours like pink, green, mustard and white, and different shapes including circles, ovals, squares and rectangles.

Three generations of families from the village of Budithi have been practicing

the unique art form of carving out idols from brass, bronze and panchaloha (an

alloy of copper, silver, gold, tin and iron). Their phenomenal work has found its

way to many temples as well.

These sarees have simple, plain borders without much contrast. The borders are usually broad with brocaded gold patterns or ‘butta’. These sarees are woven with"tussar" silk.

Lacquer craft is the application of lacquer on wood in pleasing shades and colours to create a distinctive appeal. The beauty of this craft lies in painting the smooth wooden shapes. Lac bangles, lacquered bottles and containers are a must-see on your visit to Andhra Pradesh.

Veenas are classical Indian stringed instruments, famous for their beautiful earthy sound. And nobody makes it better than the Veena artisans of Bobbili. Made of jackfruit wood, this instrument can tug at the heartstrings of anyone who is musically inclined.

Durgi, Allagadda and Tirupati are the important stone carving centres of Andhra Pradesh. Sculptors use a range of materials from soft stone, slate stone, Durgi stone to harder granite stones to shape the most divine creations out of formless rocks.

Woodcarving is an ancient craft of India. Carvings are usually done on a single piece of wood. The themes are Gods, Goddesses, figurines, etc.
