Expendables was a film I watched at home and I watched the first two minutes to see what the director shows the audience about the rest of the film from just this small amount of film.

Genre – it’s quite obviously an action film because of the gun fire and hostage situation in the first scene. All of the characters have a specific plan of what to do in the situation and who fires when and at which person.

Narrative – in the opening two minutes you can see who the ‘good guys’ are because the ‘bad guys’ are portrayed as being pirates. The good guys are made up of a team is made up of 8 men and they all work together to take down the bad guys throughout the film. You can also tell it is an action by the fact that the people are wearing bulletproof vests and have army style boots on.

Characters – it is a very ‘star studded’ film which has Bruce Willis, Jason Statham and Silvestre Stallone for just a few of them. There is no specific main character but some of the characters are seen more throughout the film compared to others because of the roles that they play, Stallone is shown to be almost the leader of the team because of the fact he gives orders and goes in first.
