Happy Trails.....To You.....................Until.....We Meet......Again....

Some of you will remember this as the Roy Rogers/Dale Evans swan song that they sang to end each episode. Of course I raise it to memory because after 9 wonderful months of partnering with you in the Gospel, this is my swan song of Epistle articles. My heart and head are overwhelmed with tuneful thoughts Id love to sing to you, but allow me to serenade you with just the most recent one.

The focus of our recent finale Catechetical Event was The Church. Each catechumen was involved in an extensive Bible study of the Church, discovering the various Biblical Images of the Church, and then perceiving Gods calling of them to BE His Church in the world. One of the final exercises involved them identifying our own St. Pauls congregations Family Shield/Coat Of Arms. In each of the six sections of our St. Pauls Shield/Coat Of Arms, was a question that asked for their experience & perception of their St. Pauls congregation. What follows are those questions (which I hope YOU will answer first), followed by the answers of our six 13-year-old confirmands.

1- What is our congregation good at?

...Listening to the Word of God; Bringing people together;

Praying; Worshipping God; Coming together as a Community;

Appreciating the pastor.

2- What is one thing on which our congregation will not budge?

...Our trust of God; Teaching young kids about the goodness of God; Staying together as One; Believing in God.

3- What is our congregations most significant possession?

...Our love of God; The People themselves; The symbol of the Cross; The Bible; The big stained glass window in the rear.

4- What has been our congregations greatest achievement?

...Our worship; Our Day Care Center; New members; Our morning Breakfasts; Our current pastor; The education of all; Being saved from Evil (Alleluia).

5- If it could be successful in anything it did, what would our congregation vote to do next year?

...To help All across the World; Get more youth and have a youth group; Grow the church bigger and with more money; Join other churches; [PKs answer: Feed and Heal the World].

6- What three words describe our congregation?

...Faithful; Holy; Children of God; Sinners; Believes; Community; One; Awesome; Cool;

Now...what was my swan song purpose in this? Very Simple. I wanted you to see how well you have modeled the Church for these young people. After all, their answers came from little Id said, but primarily from their own reflection and memory of how St. Pauls has been the Church. Not that pastoral leadership isnt helpful, but YOU are the church. The Church YOUve modeled, is the church THEY now know to be. LOOK at everything theyve observed and learned from you! Im proud to have been your partner in this.

HAPPY TRAILS! I pray you keep walking that Faithful Trail & Journey.

Baptized, together with you,

PK
