End of Sunday School Celebration and Picnic May 21
Come and celebrate the end of another enriching Sunday School
year by gathering after the 10:45 service to delight in burgers
and dogs provided by the Men’s Sunday School Class– and all the
fixin’s provided by the Fellowship Commission.
May Outreach — Hispanic Ministries (VOCES, Farm Workers) Hispanic Ministries is our outreach project for May. Contributions will be split be-
tween the Episcopal Farmworker Ministry in Newton Grove and an organization that supports our local Hispanic population. The local monies will be given to VOCES, a local not-for-profit organization supporting our Hispanic community.
The Episcopal Farmworker Ministry responds to the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of migrant and seasonal farmworkers and their families, and actively supports opportuni-ties for them to become self-directive. They seek to minister to farmworkers in three principal ways: through direct services, through development and support of programs that work towards the empowerment of farmworkers and through encouraging leadership development, and through advocacy and education that aim toward systematic change at the local and state levels.
La Iglesia de la Sagrada Familia, the Episcopal Mission supported by the Episcopal Farmworker Ministry, is the spiritual home to hundreds of farmworkers and immigrant fami-lies. More than 400 worshipers gather each week for Spanish-language services officiated by The Rev. Tony Rojas, the Episcopal Farmworker Ministry’s Sacramental Minister.
The Episcopal Farmworker Ministry depends upon hundreds of donors and community volunteers to operate. From 10,000 to 15,000 individuals pass through EFM's doors each year, and the ministry must raise nearly $300,000 annually to operate.
If you would like to make a monetary contribution, there are outreach envelopes at the back of the church for your convenience. Make checks payable to St. Paul’s Church and write “outreach” on the memo line. You may mail your donation to the church office or drop it in the plate during the service.
Five Loaves mission meets every Monday at First Baptist Church. We can use volunteers from 5-7:30pm and servers from 6-6:45pm. It is an ecumenical outreach between St. Paul’s and First Baptist Church’s members serving a hot supper to anyone needing a meal and fellowship. Contact Nancy Ustach, 252-728-6811.

Vestry Highlights St. Paul’s Episcopal Church
April 2017
The Day of Pentecost June 4 Pentecost, occurs fifty days after Easter and marks the end of the Easter season. It is the day on which the church celebrates and remembers the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the apostles (Acts 2:1). Because this event signaled the beginning of the apostles’ public proc-lamation of Jesus as the Christ, it is often called the birthday of the church.
Sr. Warden Notes: Bishop Skirving recently came and met with the Vestry. He reviewed some of the deci-sions we will face with regard to bidding farewell to John and Jan, preparing for the in-terim period after their departure and eventually entering into the search and call pro-cess for a new rector. He answered questions and assured us that the staff of Diocesan House is here to support us. Canon Matt Stockard will be the one to actually guide us through the practical work and will be meeting with the Vestry in the near future.
We have lots of time ahead to prepare for the future. Our most important task at this time is to enjoy our next three months with Father John and celebrate his ministry with us. We have been blessed to have him and Jan with us for thirteen years. Plans for a cel-ebration on his last Sunday, July 30, are beginning and everyone will have an oppor-tunity to participate. We also have many other events coming up - Covered Dish Sup-per, Sunday School Cook-out, Youth Sunday and Pentecost just to name a few in the next month. Please take the opportunity to be present as we enjoy our time together as a Parish family.
The new building is coming right along and looks wonderful. The Church sanctuary is in beautiful condition now – we have a number of weddings as well as Beaufort Old Homes Tour coming up. We should all be proud of how we have taken care of St. Paul’s.
Please continue to keep John and Jan, our parish, and your Vestry in your prayers. May you continue to celebrate Easter this month. Mary Duane Hale

I thank all of you and consider myself fortunate to be a part of this loving church. Helen O’Neal

Glory Ridge Mission Trip Needs Adults!
Please pray about your participation in the St. Paul’s Mission trip to Glory Ridge. We need a few more adults to join us on our trip up the mountain. Check with Sarah Jo Safrit, George and Lynn Eastman, Anne and Hoke Page who went to Glory Ridge recently. Ask them about the impact the trip had on them and consider coming with us this summer. The mission trip is from June 25 to July 1.
Dug Down Deep
There is only a short window in a student's life to lay a foundation that will last a lifetime. What we know about God shapes the way we think and live. If we get it wrong then our whole life will be wrong. We will finish the year with some thought-provoking sessions of Bible study where students share the honest doubts and struggles they have about their own faith. We will use scripture to challenge students to root their faith in the life and words of Jesus.
