The Feast of the Epiphany is one of the great blessings in our Church calendar. It is referred to in many cultures as “the little Christmas” because it is a time of gift giving as the Magi from the east offer to the baby Jesus and the Holy Family the gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Traditionally the Magi have numbered three in total and are identified as Gaspar, Melchior and Balthasar where their gifts are seen as the outpouring of love and generosity in recognizing the presence of God in the child Jesus.
In the celebration of the Epiphany our challenge is to look forward and not backwards in our faith life. It is the movement of conversion that challenges us to enter into the generosity of God’s love as we imitate
the blessing of the Magi from the East.
Like the Magi, we are called to bring our gifts to God and even our New Year resolutions should be gifts to God. In re-viewing our resolutions, does one involve our faith life? Especially during the Year of mercy our gifts and resolutions could involve the spiritual and corporal works of mercy, or we could begin to study Sacred Scripture, or even take a few minutes each day in prayerful thanksgiving with God.
May God bless you and your family during this coming year. Fr. Mark

"I will praise you, O Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever." Psalm 86:12
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Beginning in the New Year of 2016, St Lucy plans to use the 5th Sundays as opportunities for some of us to share our faith journey in a short 3-4 minute witness talk. There are 2 months with a 5th Sunday in 2016: January 31st, 2016 and May 29th, 2016. We need a speaker for each Mass for the 1/31/2016 weekend. You only need to speak at the Mass that you regularly attend. The talk needs only to be about your own faith experience. It could be about a moment that has brought you closer to God; it could be about a moment that allowed you to experience the presence or the grace of God; it could be a miracle that you have experienced. We understand Catholics don't usually do this but we would like to start a new tradition at St Lucy. We need your help to glorify His name. If you would like to be a witness to God's abundant mercy and love, then please email your name and the Mass you could speak at to [email protected]
Thank you for your courage and consideration. St Lucy Worship Group
