Background

The construction for the Empire State Building began in 1930 and took 1 year and 45 days to complete. The Empire State Building was designed by the architectural firm Shreve ,Lamb, and Harmon, or more specifically by Gregory Johnson. It is a 102 story building that was originally designed to be the Reynolds Building in Winston –Salem, North Carolina.

The Empire State Building is 1,250 feet tallAnd 78 years old. There were many materials that were used to build the Empire State Building. Steel, concrete, and wood were the three most commonly used ones. The Empire State Building is an architect landmark.

It is also an office building and a skyscraper.
