• Occupa2onaltherapists,alongwiththerestofthehealthcaredisciplines,wereputtothetestwhenthePa2entProtec2onandAffordableCareAct(ACA)of2010waspassed1.Thislawhasrecognizedtheimportanceofpreven2vecarethroughcommunity-basedhealthcareandschoolbasedhealthcenters.
• Adolescenceneedforpreven2vecareisgreat,duetotheconstantthreatofobesity2andsedentarybehavior3surroundingthem.
• Withtheuseofphysicalac2vityandit’sposi2veeffectsonoverallwellness,occupa2onaltherapistscanprovideopportuni2esforadolescentstoengageinhealthyhabitsthroughoutmul2pleseWngs.
• Developtheassocia2onofphysicalac2vityandtheuniversalwellnessofadolescents,whileexploringtheopportuni2esofphysicalac2vityonadolescent’soccupa2onintheCapitalRegionofNewYorkState.
• Amixedmethodcross-sec2onalpapersurveywasdistributedto9-12thgraders,maleandfemale,agerangingfrom13-18fromN=618(IchabodCraneHighSchool)andN=323(CatholicCentralHighSchool).Adolescentpar2cipantsthattookthesurveyincludedN=32.

• Theliteraturesupportsthatloca2onisabarrierforadolescentswhowanttoengageinphysicalac2vity5.Adolescentsinourstudyandincomparingresearchiden2fylivingtoofarawayandhavinglimitedtonotransporta2onasbarrierstopar2cipa2nginphysicalac2vity,suchasfitnesscenters.Occupa2onaltherapistscouldoccupythisspacebydevelopingahomeexerciseprogramstocompletewhenadolescentsareunabletoexercisewithintheircommunity.
• Inorderforoccupa2onaltherapisttopushforcommunitypreventa2vehealthprograms,barriersandmo2va2ngfactorsthatcontributetophysicalac2vityneedtobeaddressedtofindthebest-fitprogramforthispopula2on.
• Occupa2onaltherapistcandevelopprogramsforadolescentsthroughoutschooldistrictsandwithincommuni2estoachieveoverallphysicalandmentalwell-beingforthispopula2on.
