Fulfil statutory duties, e.g. attendance.

Complete administrative duties, e.g. blobs/credits, timetables, fire drills, notices.

Monitor and review academic progress.

Write reports and set targets. Organize Form Room, e.g. notices, pigeon-holes.

Set the tone for the day, by creating a positive ethos: establishing/encouraginggood relationships, and developing both a form group and a school spirit/identity.

Be a good role-model in behaviour and outline expectations.

Deal with incidents, imposing sanctions and offering coping strategies. Handle individuals and groups.

Liaise with parents and other staff over academic or pastoral concerns.

Make and maintain personal contact: know each tutee, e.g. personal circumstances,relationships, hobbies, achievements.

Teach study skills, organization, mutual respect. Encourage reading/general knowledge/interest in current affairs, etc.
