2010 Advisory Schools’ meetingOn the 9th and 10th August, 14 advisory school coordinators and 4 principals met at the ACTF o" ces in Melbourne for the annual meeting. This year the ACTF welcomed two new schools, Moonta PS (SA) and Chapman PS (ACT). The ! rst day provided an opportunity to get to know the new coordinators and hear about the changes to the ACTF in the past year. Jenny Buckland, ACTF CEO, and Bernadette O’Mahony, Head of Development and Production, briefed the group about new initiatives and productions committed to by the ACTF. The ACTF education team introduced new teaching resources and Chelsea Balnaves, Moonta PS, presented ideas on how to develop a whole-school literacy program using the ACTF programs and resources.

The second day was devoted to the Advisory Schools’ coordinators becoming conversant with the My Place for Teachers interactive website, in particular, how to contribute to, and upload their own teaching units to the Our Place forum. They also provided evaluative feedback from their sta# and students on the My Place resources. The ACTF thanked Cheryl Patrick, Wanniassa Hills PS (ACT) for her support and dedication over the years and wished her well for her retirement.

Launch of ACTF programs and resources in the NTOn 21 September, the Northern Territory Department of Education (NT DET) launched a range of ACTF productions and teaching resources on their NT Schools portal, Moodle. Manunda Primary School was the venue and invited guests were treated to wonderful displays by years 5 and 6 students in Mrs Patterson’s classroom. Enthusiasm was in abundance and the students showed their knowledge and understanding of the issues and topics that sit behind productions such as Morti! ed and Noah & Saskia.

NT DET had previously licensed a range of ACTF programs and education resources for use by NT schools. This licence allows NT teachers to access numerous ACTF productions and supporting teaching material via Learning Links. A special thanks to Andy Street, Director, ICT for Learning, who made this partnership possible.

The ACTF has partnered with the State Library of Victoria to ! lm selected illustrators whose work will feature in this exciting exhibition. This exhibition showcases the art of Australian picture book illustration over the past 10 years. It features 120 original illustrations by 46 Australian illustrators, from 74 di# erent books. Exhibition content is divided into six major themes: Home, Play, Holidays, Wild things, Imagine a World and Night. The ! lms will deepen the audience’s understanding about how an illustrator works and their ideas and ways of working with the subjects and materials. ABC3 has also interviewed Leigh Hobbs and Shaun Tan to promote the exhibition.

ACTF and VITTA ICT Achievers ProgramThe ACTF participated in the Victorian IT Teachers Association (VITTA) ICT Achievers Program. The program endeavours to provide Yr 11 students with valuable hands-on experience whilst supervised by industry professionals. This program is richer than traditional work experience due to active involvement of industry professionals as mentors for the students who take part. The program extends beyond individual bene! t by focusing on knowledge creation and sharing. In 2010, the ACTF has provided two students with a placement. Each student created a multimedia resource and a blog of their experiences which added to a digital bank of resources and case studies on ICT career options.

Go tohttp://www.ictachievers.vitta.org.au/achievers-2/dominc-jones/ to view these case studies.
