Before You Begin

1. Download The EDGE software following the instructions from The Estimating Edge representative.

2. Discuss set-up configurations with your team (see set-up configurations below). 3. Plan to have everyone in your organization upgrade to avoid version conflicts. 4. Create a backup file of your estimating database. 5. Create a backup of your jobs. 6. Disable your antivirus software.

Installation 1. Extract the files to your desktop by right clicking on the EDGE folder.

2. Open the extracted folder and double click “Install.exe”

3. Choose the version of The EDGE that you will be running. If you are unsure what version

to select, contact The EDGE technical support at 561-276-9100

4. If you use a digitizer board, check the box for the GTCO Digitizer Driver.

5. The Installer will install and configure several components.

6. Installation is now complete, you should now see the new EDGE icon on your desktop.

Getting Started

1. Open The EDGE using the new EDGE icon.

2. Open your Estimating database by clicking on database/open estimating database

3. Navigate out to your database folder and select the .mdf file of your database.

4. Click the open button.

5. Create your new jobs database Note: If you are upgrading from version 10.7.5 you already have a jobs database and only need to open it. Refer to upgrading from a 10.7.5 database on page 16. Select Database/Create Job Database

6. Navigate to the folder you want your jobs database located, and give your database a name in the file name box. Tip: Include the word “jobs” in the name to avoid confusion with your estimating DB.

7. Click the Save button. 8. Your software is now ready to use.

Set-up Configurations 1. Local jobs database

If you choose to keep your job database on your local machine you will only see your bids. 2. Network jobs database

If you choose to keep your job database on a network you will be able to see the bids from everyone who uses that database. If you choose this option, all of your job folders need to have full read write permissions by all users of The EDGE. 3. Job folder locations

Job files can be stored in any location you choose. You will have the ability to sort by job folders in the bid grid.

Bid grid configuration 1. Your new bid grid can be customized in many different ways to fit your specific needs. 2. Click on File/Customize Columns.

3. You will then be able to drag new columns to the grid, or drag columns not needed out of the grid.

Importing Individual job Files Use the following steps to import a version 8 or newer job directly into version 10.7.7. 1. Click on File\Import From The EDGE 8,9,or 10

2. Navigate to, and select the job you want to import.

3. Click the Open button. The job properties dialog will open first, giving you an opportunity to fill out properties that may be useful in the new bid grid format.

4. Once you click OK the job will be in the grid and you will be focused on it.

Importing Multiple Job Files 1. Click on File\Batch Import EDGE 8, 9, or 10 Jobs

2. Navigate to the folder you want to import from and click Import. If you want to import jobs

from subfolders as well check the include subfolders box Note: The job files will stay in the folder locations and only the file extension will change.

3. Your jobs should now be in your bid grid. Note: This process may take some time depending on how many jobs and there size that were in the folders.

Upgrading a Version 10.7.5 Job Database

1. Log on to the server or computer where the job database resides. (if you have a local database skip to step 4)

2. Copy the Utility folder from The EDGE C/D and paste it on the server desktop. 3. Open the folder and double click on Export1075jobs. 4. Double click the new icon on your desktop.

5. Fill in the Server\Instance (for local jobs check the Local box) 6. Choose your Jobs Database from the dropdown. 7. If you do not already have a folder where you want the jobs to go, then click on the

location you want the new folder and then click the “Make New Folder” button

8. Click the Export button and the utility will do the rest.

• The EDGE – Citrix Version is supported to operate in a Citrix XenApp 6.5 environment.[c1] • It is highly recommended that a Citrix specialist install and configure the Citrix server. • The use of digitizers is not recommended for remote locations.

Digitizer Compatibility For clients who have a digitizer with only a serial port, and who only have USB Ports on their

computer, you will need to purchase a Serial to USB adapter. We recommend the Keyspan USA-19HS adapter. This is available through the Internet or various local sources.
